When did the road get paved? |
About a year ago. From SF.....it's a breeze to get there now. |
lot longer than a year ago (that far) |
Right, it was first paved starting in the late 1980's to early 1990's, but so thin that it was badly potholed and again mostly 'unpaved' by 1998. It
was miserable to drive in 2005.
This pavement was over a graded roadbed built in 1982-1983. Which replaced the original road between San Felipe and Puertecitos that stayed inland,
passing through the sulfur mine area. That road dates from the mid 1950's.
Re-paving began in the early 2000's and once again reached Puertecitos about the first part of 2007. The newer, wider road on south of Puertecitos
soon began, and after 3 years has advanced 20 miles over the most difficult type of terrain.
