More Fishing in Bahia Asuncion

DianaT - 10-31-2010 at 08:40 AM

Fishing Guide, Manuel Arce Aguilar from Kalicos Loco, does not write in English, so as a favor, he asked us to post these fishing photos from last week.

And look who came fishing with them all the way from the US.

Information about fishing can be found on the fishing page of the Community Web Site.

BTW---we are working on the Spanish language part of the website, and it still needs a lot of editing. Pronto!

OK, this opinion should get me into a lot of trouble. I have observed that SOME fishermen are like many cowboys that I have met---smiling just is not a part of the equation. Maybe it is not cool?

Where's the Tuna? Is the water temp. still in the low 60s?

According to the old timers, some years the Tuna do not visit, but they are still hopeful they might stop by this year.

A few people have said the water is warming up a little to the higher 60s.

We take it very seriously Diane. As far as the photo shoots are concerned. When we can land a fish, our hearts are in it. When you see your partner on the other end of the boat go "fish on" its all eyes are on him and his rod.

When we have to go do the photo shoot....well we become humble.;)

Maybe I should take up ocean fishing----I still LOVE to fish for trout, mainly catch and release while floating down a river in Montana. And when I manage to outfish my son, humble is not in my vocabulary. He knows those rivers and all of the fish by name. ;)

Hope to see the two of you fishing down here soon and smiling from ear to ear with some nice fish!

BajaDanD - 10-31-2010 at 04:00 PM

A while back, on Nomads, we read a quick reference about an up and coming shore fishing tournament. But when we asked around town, no one seemed to know anything about it. Was it planned to be an open tournament or strictly an exclusive happening?

We usually float the Clark Fork---beautiful and good fishing, but my favorite because of the scenery is the Blackfoot!. Just a great way to spend a day.

shari - 11-1-2010 at 07:02 AM

re: the fun shore fishing tournament...nothing is exclusive!!! it was an idea we kicked around when it looked like several nomads were going to be in Asuncion at the same time...but most of em bailed...manana!

It is interesting about the look in the photos and not see a lot of smiles. I fish with the local fishermen all summer and it is literally like being in the middle of a party all day long since they laugh, chide each other, share food from boat to boat and generally have a wonderful day on the water with lots of jokes and fun. Now that the tourists are coming back in hordes they were out on the reef for a days fishing and there were some nice yellowtail being caught, but it blew me away to look at the snowbirds who all looked like they had been sucking lemons all day. They had cursory short waves, looked plain frustrated when someone else caught a fish (wonder who that might be) and generally looked like they were having a bad hair day.
I think I would prefer to be in the middle of the pangueros anytime.

I am sure Royal Polaris Sportfishing has a website. From what I understand they are a long range charter company out of San Diego----and quite expensive, but I guess expensive is not an objective statement.

Smiles---interesting. Steve may be correct about the work part being a part of some of the lack of smiles. When we are photographing birthday and other parties around here, we have no problem with people smiling.

But when we are taking photos for the webpage, the business owner can be lauging away and the minute the "official" picture is to be taken, some quickly become very "business like", very serious looking.

So these same guys may have been smiling, laughing, etc., that is until the camera came out.

Since I did not take the photos, this is all speculation.

Each trip is "about $5,000"....
www.royalpolaris.com
Should be www.holy-cow.com!

Tony Reyes goes for around $1000 per trip

msteve1014 - 11-2-2010 at 07:41 PM

The RP ain't no Tony Reyes trip. It's a 5 start hotel that floats to where you can find fish. The trips are priced by the day, and start at much less than $5000. They don't target triggerfish and pinto bass.:O
