Baja Cactus Cultural Fiesta: WE HAVE EXTRA SEATS!

David K - 8-7-2004 at 05:43 PM

Yes, it is the 'Baja Cactus Cultural Fiesta' Films, Fun, Food with a museum tour... It is this SUNDAY! Antonio has just informed me we have a few more seats he had been holding for family friends. The room capacity is actually 80. Great News if you still want to go!

Here is what I have for confirmed RSVPs: (using initials of real names)

AM: 6, DK: 2, NJ:2, MF: 3, RD: 1, ZJ: 2, JM: 2, MS('j'): 2, AE: 2, JP('jr'): 6, SG: 2, KM: 2, JS: 2, RB: 1, KT: 2, DM: 6, TD:1, AR: 3, DL: 2, JP('BR'): 2, MS('M'): 1, D&J: 2, DE: 2, B&S: 4, BV: 2, TD ('MT'): 2, 'J': 1, SK: 4, RS: 1, For a total of 70. (updated 8-19 @ 6 pm). When there are duplicate initials, I add the 'handle' initial(s).

There is seating for 80 in the theatre and at PalmAzul restaurant.

This is a fiesta created and hosted by Antonio ('BajaCactus') to meet more Baja loving people. The 2 movie showings, museum tour, and snacks are given by Antonio. The dinner at PalmAzul is all you pay for, a free glass of wine and tour of PalmAzul's Baja art is included.

Antonio owns the Pemex and Baja Cactus motel in El Rosario, and a printing company in Tijuana. My new 'got baja?' stickers were made by Antonio... I will be giving them out at the fiesta. Satellite Man is giving 4 Baja posters as door prizes, other items have been offered (see other thread).

So, if you have reserved but find you cannot make it, please contact me right away.

IF you have severe Baja Fever and wish to attend, email me with BAJA CACTUS in the subject line!

Hola David...

Will you post the time and place in Tijuana where we are meeting for the "Baja Cactus Cultural Fiesta" on this board? Thanks.

David K - 8-7-2004 at 09:06 PM

Well, it has been posted... but not exact directions... I am concerned that people will just show up and that wouldn't be nice... People who have emailed me are on a list. Antonio has the same emails and list. Admission to the fiesta will be from those on the list and then up to 70. I have emailed Ted of Baja Talk Radio with the correct procedure. Shoot for 10 am in Tijuana. Antonio thinks a 10-10:30 am registration and meeting time is good, before we see the first feature film. Anyone late will join us for the museum tour and second film, etc.

these things should be on a

saturday

David K - 8-8-2004 at 06:19 PM

The thinking was that southbound traffic to San Diego and Tijuana is murder Saturday mornings. Also, many people work on Saturday... Sunday is more relaxing and the dinner will be early so folks can head north before dark, if they wish.

I am back!!!

BajaCactus - 8-10-2004 at 02:16 PM

Hi everyone.... just came back from El Rosario, I was there almost the whole last week, and we do not have Internet there.....yet!!!.:)

First I want to thank DavidK for all his help with this event...you have been amazing my friend!!!:D

Cyndarouh....Thank you for donations for the raffle.... those Julian pies are just great....:bounce:

On the other hand..... I got an original Hugo Lopez painting to be raffle on the event... Hugo Lopez is a local artist at El Rosario, most of his work is based on themes of Baja....his paints are very good....

Well, I have to go now to settle the small details of the event with Cecut and Palma Azul.... I will post some more info as soon as I have it...

Thanks everybody and I believe we will have a great time on the 22nd....:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Actually, I am waiting to hear from Antonio. I haven't ruled that out or, if anybody knows anybody heading north from Los Barriles or somewhere, we may be able to work it out.
Just talked to truck place, not today:mad

Hi JR...

BajaCactus - 8-11-2004 at 08:39 PM

Do not worry my friend.....I know you are doing your best effort.....:D

[Edited on 8-12-2004 by BajaCactus]

Everything is going great!!!!

BajaCactus - 8-12-2004 at 03:25 PM

The event planning is coming along very well.

We have been working alongside the Cecut staff for the past 2 weeks and they have been very, very helpful and professional in their assistance. Olimpia Lopez, who is the cordinator of the Cultural Tourism departament, is very happy that we, Baja lovers, are coming to Tijuana, and she is making her best effort to make sure we all have a pleasent and delightful event.... she has been wonderful....thank you Olimpia....

The itinerary at the Cecut place is almost done, I will post it in the next few days.

We have a lot of door prizes already, most of them are being donated by Bajanomads....thank you everyone!!!!:D

Even though this event is being coordinated by us and DavidK, I have high hopes for this to become a true Baja lovers event. A gathering were we can meet each other, talk about our trips, stories and tales about Baja, so come with us and enjoy all of that wich we are getting together, just for you!!!!.... :bounce::bounce::bounce:

About Palma Azul, they have been working in our special menu and rate, I am suposse to have this info today afternoon, so I will post it tomorrow.

Keep in mind that Palma Azul restaurant is a very exclusive restaurant in Tijuana, in fact their slogan is "The New Peninsula Cuisine", so their service, meal and prices should go accordingly......:)

Well, I will post all the Baja Cultural Fiesta details in the next couple of days....as well as more info about the places and movies we are going to be visiting.....:D

[Edited on 8-13-2004 by BajaCactus]

I think I finally realize why we got so much flap about the BBBB's

Debra - 8-13-2004 at 05:44 PM

I'm sitting here green with envy that I can't make this event! :(

About how to dress...

BajaCactus - 8-14-2004 at 06:01 PM

About how to dress....

There is no special dress code for this event....

We will be up and around all day.... sitting, standing, walking some more, sitting again..... .....so we better dress as casual and comfortable as we can....

Palma Azul has no problem with this neither.

Come with us... enjoy the show.... make new Baja friends....!!!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

There are few spaces left....but you can still get a place...

Thanks!!!!

BajaCactus - 8-16-2004 at 09:05 PM

Thanks a lot DavidK for all your help in the BajaCactus Cultural Fiesta 2004!!!!.....

I am very happy that so many friends are joining us.....!!!!

See you at the BajaCactus Cultural Fiesta!!!!

tim40 - 8-17-2004 at 10:29 AM

Antonio and all...this is great and I am hoping that it becomes at least an annual event at possibly differing locations. Unfortunately Tracey and I can't make it related to another yearly event this conflicts with.... Zero doubt that a great time by all will be had. Looking forward to pictures and stories to follow. Tim

JESSE - 8-17-2004 at 01:40 PM

Guys, i can make it to the cultural center, but Palma Azul is a little bit too pricey for my finances at this time, so if its no problem for anyone, i will skip the dinner after Cecut.

David K - 8-17-2004 at 06:36 PM

No problem Jesse...... If you find you can stay for dinner, then we would enjoy your company! Why not bring pitayas to sell and earn the dinner money? Exotic fruit is valuable when one has the opportunity to buy it. I think cactus fruit is allowable across the border.. I will check my list later to be sure. I will buy some from you!

David & Antonio

Baja Bernie - 8-17-2004 at 07:16 PM

I am so bummed that I will not be able to attend this fantastic bash. Know that I will be there in spirit. Hope the good vibes flow at this one the way they did at the first one down at JR's.
Hope you all get to meet Antonio's wife and his father--great people.

David K - 8-17-2004 at 07:40 PM

Bernie my friend, should circumstances change, please attend. There will be a seat for you at the movies even if I have to stay outside (I have seen both films)!

Markitos - 8-17-2004 at 08:19 PM

I'm heading down :biggrin:solo from the San Marcos area. I've got an extra seat in the old beater if anyone needs a ride. Can pick up anywhere south of Oceanside.

Bernie...

BajaCactus - 8-17-2004 at 11:09 PM

My friend Bernie... so sad you will not be able to make it.....I second David...if things change... join us... we will make sure you have a place there....:D

See you all sunday....:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Great Surprise!

David K - 8-18-2004 at 10:53 PM

BajaCactus has released a few seats he was holding for family or friends, so we now have more available (80) max.

See you Sunday morning... Remember there are lots of great door prizes... Satellite Baja Posters, Baja books, tequila, pies, free motel rooms in El Rosario, and more...

GeoRock - 8-19-2004 at 11:50 AM

Wondering if anyone has 2 extra seats in their vehicle, someone that is attending the entire event?

I'm in Orange County (Fullerton), but can meet you anywhere, even just before the border. It would be my son, age 19, Jed, and myself, Suzanne.

I can be reached at 760- 709- 1054.
thanks.

Any suggestion for a low-cost alternative for those not going to Palma Azul to meet at? Fish Tacos? Then ice cream after at that place over by Sam's Club with the exotic fruit sorbets (including Pitahaya)?

Alternatives

jrbaja - 8-19-2004 at 08:43 PM

We being poor trailer trash will probably end up at La Vuelta. One of our less expensive traditional favorites.:light:
On the other hand, for an event like this including 2 movies, a museum tour, a guided tour, and the company of many Baja lovers, approximately $54.00 per person is pretty darn reasonable don'tcha think?

Muchas gracias Antonio !!!!!!!!!

whodat54321 - 8-19-2004 at 08:49 PM

price is right, but.....

I will be coming in fresh off work (start at 11:30 the previous night), and my supervisor advises me that sleep is a necessity, so dinner is out for me, as I need to get home and get a few z's.

Darn 24 hour days!

Yes I do.... but do the math for a couple with 4 kids and you'll see my plight. ;)

A little less $$... if it helps?

David K - 8-19-2004 at 11:23 PM

JR... with the tip and tax included the dinner is under $44. The parking is per car at about $4... So if it helps get more folks to have some 'Peninsular Cuisine', one person is $48 and all others in that person's car are $44 each. Doug's family would be over $200... Even if Antonio got kid prices quoted, I think that is a bunch when the youngin's will enjoy the taco stand more!

Over excessiveness

jrbaja - 8-20-2004 at 08:01 AM

is generally a gringo thing.
But, under the circumstances, it's a pretty good deal.
On the other hand, that's about 10 meals compared to what I am used to paying.

Baja Red - 8-20-2004 at 12:07 PM

I'm with you...Well worth the price. Looking forward to meeting you at the Fiesta. This will be a lot of fun and I feel bad for the ones that cannot make it due to prior commitments. See you there..Baja Red (Mike)

A small thank you note...

BajaCactus - 8-21-2004 at 12:45 AM

Hi,

First of all, we would like to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to all the friends, who are doing a huge effort, to come all the way to Tijuana, and attend the BajaCactus Cultural Fiesta 2004.... thank you friends for being so positive and open to receive the friendship, that we as bajacalifornians, wish to offer you...

We have high hopes that this reunion becomes one more step in the continous bonding of the tree Californias, even though we speak different lenguages and that we come from very different beliefs, we do have a something much stronger in common... we all LOVE this land and the humbleness of its simple people.

On the other hand, those of you who were unable to attend, let it be known that you will be miss, and we hope to have the opportunity to meet you very soon in the next reunion or event....:D

We are fill with joy, happiness and excitment with the arrival of this next sunday, because we will be able to meet in person, with so many nomads and friends which we only know online, and we finally will be able to offer you a smile, face to face, along with a sincere and strong handshake ...:D

As you may notice, we have not posted much lately....we have been extremely busy preparing and setting everything up to receive you as you deserve... but we promise to return more next week.

Well friends, I hope you will like what we have put together for you, and we shall be waiting for you this next sunday.... again... THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ACCEPTING OUR INVITATION!!!......
