Catsup

If you are going to use it on fish tacos add water and lime juice and mix until creamy....epic.

It's basically Thousand Island without the pickles. Homemade, just mix mayo and catsup.

OMG--- as kids, back in the dark ages, we used to make that as a dip for potato chips. :barf:

Then again, we know a number of small kids in BA who put catsup on their ceviche when it is served on tostados. They are just not ready for the hot sauce.

Been using it on seafood, french fries, hushpuppies etc. since I was a kid. Also good with black-eyed peas, field peas, fried green tomatoes, and fried okra.

cabo3100 - 12-8-2010 at 12:58 PM

The French call the dressing Rosemary. They use whipped mayonaise puree tomatoes , brandy, ground sage, lemon and white pepper

I thought for sure you would say it was good on Spam! But you did include that awful stuff called okra.:lol:

Cabo3100 --- Now, that sounds very good---

Cypress - 12-8-2010 at 01:11 PM

DianaT,:light: I think that having a taste for okra is something acquired at an early age. Sorta like a taste for grits, unless it's called polenta.:D

yes, pink sauce

I'd be willing to bet that's not the recipe used at my Fish Taco stand.
Sounds good though.

Ohhhhh Lordyyyyyy..........that slimey stuff must have another use other than food. Them Southern folks are jes plain confused on this one.
Maybe if it's mixed with sand?????????

sanquintinsince73 - 12-8-2010 at 11:59 PM

I kid you not, okra makes me gag. Good thing it wasn't a staple in our household.

Pink?

Cypress - 12-9-2010 at 05:43 AM

Batter the okra in cornmeal then fry it to a golden brown. It's crisp and the slime is gone.:D

There is a fairly common "pink" sauce over here that is a dipping sauce and is used on tacos. It is a combination of chipotle salsa and mayo. Much better than the mil isla without the islas. It's popular enough that a commercial outfit Zaaschile, has begun marketing something similar in a typical salsa picante bottle.

BajaBlanca - 12-9-2010 at 10:05 AM

okra. yuck.

we used the pink sauce for dip when younger too, but we never referred to it as pink sauce. just doesn't sound right

DanO - 12-9-2010 at 10:46 AM

What a bunch of damn okra sissies. I like mine sauteed whole in butter with salt, pepper and cumin. If you think okra is slimy, try some japanese mountain potato.

Can't wait to try that one.

Highly used for shrimp dipping. San Felipe uses it just bout everywhere. Mayo with ketchup with a twist of lime.

Absolutely wonderful for the Mother in Law to choke and gag on :o

irenemm - 12-11-2010 at 07:10 PM
