chippy - 1-20-2011 at 07:08 AM

Hey how did you find out about this super secret spot:lol::lol::lol:??

mcfez - 1-20-2011 at 07:28 AM

Wow...any Baja BN here have a map of this wonderland?

Taco de Baja - 1-20-2011 at 08:10 AM

Here is the map annotated with GPS points:

surfer jim - 1-20-2011 at 08:21 AM

OMG.....

805gregg - 1-20-2011 at 08:27 AM

It's pumping everywhere no need to drive.

chippy - 1-20-2011 at 01:05 PM

I heard Ojai is 6ft. and glassy.

BLASPHEME!

Watch out for Woody... expect crosses burned on your lawn!!!

:lol::lol::lol:

(nice maps on that site, too...)

[again, it isn't web sites, maps, or photos that will cause mobs of surfers to go there... it is good roads (along with good economy and lack of fear of Mexico)!!]

Bajamatic - 1-20-2011 at 01:44 PM

That map is totally fake. There is nothing to do around there but watch coyotes. It is all a joke.

pappy - 1-20-2011 at 02:18 PM

tides will be a factor.this devil wind can be crankin' 2x as hard there as well, tearing everything up on land and water.

Paulina - 1-20-2011 at 04:59 PM

Someone who won't be named just left this morning for places that can't be named to get into that swell action. I'm jealous that I couldn't go too!

13 weeks till Spring break seems like an eternity...

mcfez - 1-20-2011 at 07:57 PM

Nice cove!!!!! How's the fishing and snorkeling there?

TMW - 1-21-2011 at 09:47 AM

Just to the south of the black horizonal line on the contour map is where I camped and fished in July of 09. I was catching yellow fin croakers as fast as I could throw the line in. Both evening and early morning. A little north toward the point last Nov I was catching nice size serf perch. Great fishing area on the beaches. Well worth a trip.

Dewey - 1-21-2011 at 03:53 PM

There are no secret spots. (surfers can never keep secrets about good waves) Only easy ones to get too, and harder ones to get too. The harder it is to get too, the fewer people. I was into the sisters when the pavement stopped at Colonet. People had been there before me and my friends got there. It was not a secret then and certainly is not one now.

[Edited on 1-21-2011 by Dewey]

Bajamatic - 1-21-2011 at 04:53 PM

Oh jesus. Not another holier-than-thou old guy. PUH-LEEZ.

bigzaggin - 1-21-2011 at 05:07 PM

Actually, there are TONS of secret spots down there, not UNKNOWN but known but very few people. I can personally attest to having scored world class waves, alone, while nearby waves hosted 30+ guys. It's real. It exists and it's all about years of exploration. The idea that we should all just share maps with everyone is silly. Keeping a secret doesn't make you an elitist or even crabby, it just means you're asking other people to earn what you had to earn. But we're already talking too much about this, so let me steer the conversation elsewhere...

Personally, I think gringos should totally buy baby lobsters from local fisherman or even catch some for themselves. Ditto for all shellfish in Baja. AND, it's legal for Americans to carry a firearm in Baja. And also, Mama Espinoza's is a ripoff.

Who's with me??!??!?!

Bajamatic - 1-21-2011 at 05:10 PM

jeezus. 2 old dudes with "years of exploration". I was born in the baja under a harvest moon in the crossfires of a norte and a DOH westerly. There are no secrets, only myths.

But what about guns and shellfish in Baja?

Also, check your U2U.

BajaBlanca - 1-21-2011 at 07:07 PM

the waves in La Bocana are HUGE - the end of January is the only time of the year when waves are guaranteed to be grandissimos. there is a surf tournament the 29th and 30th.

Paulina - 1-21-2011 at 07:25 PM

Dern probably pulled in about an hour ago, set up camp, put a tri-tip on the bbq and already has his feet resting on warm rocks around the campfire. I wish I were there too, feeling that itch to get into the water first thing tomorrow morning.

Bravo!

Remember Bradley's Service Station gravity gas pump north of Colonet... just a few miles after the pavement ended... back in the 60's!?

Dewey - 1-22-2011 at 07:04 PM

Yes I do, on the north side of the river. We stopped there for no other reason then to get gas from that thing. I am looking to see if I can find some pictures.

Brian L - 1-22-2011 at 08:19 PM

I lost my map on how to get there, can someone please post a detailed map? Thanks

surfer jim - 1-22-2011 at 10:22 PM

Ah....head south? Do you write jokes for Jay Leno also?

Brian L - 1-22-2011 at 11:29 PM

Surfers are so touchy! Us snowboarders don't mind sharing the slopes.

Attitude almost makes me want to devote a website that promotes and exploits the "secrets". Almost. I'm not a complete di$&head. :saint:

Paulina - 1-23-2011 at 12:09 AM

Brian,

You set yourself up for that one. I guess you already knew that.

Martyman - 1-24-2011 at 11:58 AM

As my friend said as he swam from seeing whale sharks back to the boat,"It's too big". I'll wait for the waves to calm down. I'm a small wave rider!

Bajamatic - 1-24-2011 at 12:06 PM

Brian

PLEASE! I know full well the "snow people" protect their favorite backside bowls in the exact same way. And if you don't know that, then you probably haven't been boarding very long. Same goes for surfing. Do it long enough and you'll start looking for a place where you can surf great waves and not have to weave around a bunch of human buoys. Can you blame anyone for that? Not really.

Brian L - 1-24-2011 at 06:14 PM

Most of those places are hard to get too, need to hike up, or helicopter. But first runs on fresh powder is sublime!

Bajamatic - 1-24-2011 at 06:16 PM

"Most of those places are hard to get too, need to hike up, or helicopter."

you are beginning to understand...!

Should we build a lift that can take me right to the top of your favorite sublime powder run???

Maybe we would be somewhat sympathetic if some like woodrow was a bit cooler about things. Until then, I will encourage all to go and share the waves.:spingrin::spingrin::spingrin::spingrin::spingrin:

so, for calling me out you just show your fat rear end. do you drive a honda? where were you since thursday? the nursing home?

:barf::light::lol::?:

oh yeah, i could care less anymore. just thought i'd remind you that some of us actually do get up and go when King Neptune smiles.....

Paulina - 1-24-2011 at 09:22 PM

Woody,

Did you run into Dern? (group of 5 guys, three vehicles)

Congrats on your noodle arms and peeling nose. I'm envious.

Dewey - 1-25-2011 at 09:16 PM

Hello Taco de Baja
People have been riding the inside since at the least the late 60's. The outside was not secret, nobody had the cojones to go outside until Jeff Clark did. Now there are lots of guys with the cojones. Besides, it is an easy place to get too.

pappy - 1-27-2011 at 09:10 AM

i wonder if jeff clark regrets the fact he let the cat out of the bag ? i agree with biz...as far as earning it. many of us go for the solitude, not to hang out with more people. before the internet, surf reports, etc. going to certain areas was guaranteed to be sans gringos(or locals). what sucks is being posted up somewhere and having a crew pull in being loud and stupid, thanking the gps coordinates and internet for getting them for the first time. they don't realize what efforts those already there had put forth to get there.(eg, years of exploration, taking wrong turns, running out of gas, having to build your own road, withstanding floods, hurricanes, etc.)

agreed. the world is shrinking..... i appreciate the technology that allows me to peer into the crystal ball, MANY days before the local weather forecaster dude tells the world how the high surf advisory is in effect. by then i'm usually all packed and waiting for the alarm clock.....

i used to chart hurricanes in the early/mid eighties using a weather radio. twice in the last calendar year we have SCORED, for days, based on technology and intuition.

i'm still of the opinion that baja makes you earn her respect.

Cool. I been stuck working from home office since first of year. As COB and head dishwasher I have had to convene 'board meetings' twice a day some days. :saint:

When I lived in the OC I would surf regularly on weekdays at Old Mans San Onofre. There was a group of guys twice my age ranging from seventy on up. One guy would spend 45 minutes on the beach stretching doing yoga and warming up then paddle out on a big board with two handles on the deck so he could turtle roll and hold on tight when he got caught inside on big sets. He was 84 years old at the time and had two rebuilt knees and one rebuilt hip. Turns out a few of them knew my father from his days hanging at Killer Dana and San O in the 50's -60's. I brought my dad up from SD once for an after surf bonfire and listened to them all talk story. Wish I would have had a tape recorder. My dad surfed until he was 60. I still have a 12'6" board he made in Whitey Harrison's barn in 1951. Good times.

Now where's that GPS map?

Mouse is one of the original OB lifeguards. he is in his mid 70's now and still gets in the water damn near every day, either paddling, swimming or surfing.

we should all aspire to be like Mouse when we grow up.

Surfin was a really big deal when I was in high school, '63-64. So I tried it a few times. My knee caps couldn't handle the pain. I always wondered how others tolerated that so well.

i ask myself the same thing about being an nfl running back. i guess you really gotta want it. especially in the cold winter months.
