Bajaboy - 2-12-2011 at 04:59 AM

Great news! Congrats!

Lobsterman - 2-12-2011 at 06:34 AM

Congratulations Jessie. You must be quite the chef to be noticed by Rick. His show is so...... Mexican. Must stop by your place some day as I fish your part of paradise.

snowcat5 - 2-12-2011 at 06:59 AM

Good Job Jesse! Your food is great and I think you might inspire Rick. In the supermarket yesterday, I noticed that Emerill La Gosse beat you to the punch- he's introduced bat ray scallops in chocolate, in the frozen foods section. Right next to the crab-like meat products. We really enjoyed our meal at your place in November- the best food in Baja Sur!

bajajudy - 2-12-2011 at 07:49 AM

WOW
Jesse that is terrific!
I love his new book on how to throw a Mexican party. It even has a play list for the music. BTW...we have this book in stock!

longlegsinlapaz - 2-12-2011 at 08:29 AM

Congratulations Jesse!! Well deserved! When the "Rich & Famous" flock to your place, you will hold a table or two in the back corner for your longtime local fans, wontcha? ;)

mcfez - 2-12-2011 at 08:42 AM

JESSE...
Congrads to you Sir.

Now....there are some of us here asleep at the wheel (not me :o )

What happened to the McJesse con Papas? Rick doesn't know what he missed.

Iflyfish - 2-12-2011 at 08:52 AM

Can I say I knew you when you were poor?

Congrats amigo, you deserve this recognition!

Russ - 2-12-2011 at 09:04 AM

I'm happy you're getting the recognition. I wish I could have enjoyed a meal with you before you became famous. I hadn't heard of Rick Bayless before so I looked him up. Here's something about him for those, like me, that were clueless.

Congratulations, Jesse.
This is a real feather in your chef's hat - and one you most definitely deserve.

capt. mike - 2-12-2011 at 09:12 AM

good for you - that is class. Bayless is highly regarded world wide - more talented than all those food network bimbos and bimbas put together - and i do like Guy but he is so full of himself.

way to go Jesse! do tell us when it airs!

CaboMagic - 2-12-2011 at 09:44 AM

Congrats Jesse - thats really terrific!

Hope to get there one of these days/weeks/months and enjoy your clever gastronomic creations everyone raves about.

sancho - 2-12-2011 at 01:09 PM

Have'nt been able to locate his show for months,
was on here in Orange Co. ch 38 pbs on Sat
afternoons

Bajahowodd - 2-12-2011 at 03:43 PM

Bayless has two Chicago restaurants. Frontera and Topolobambo.

True story- Three years ago, we were in Chicago visiting my wife's son who had just graduated Northwestern and was starting a job there at JP Morgan. We agreed to take him to dinner at Frontera. Called for a reservation and was told it was closed to the public that evening. Barrack and Michelle Obama were having their anniversary dinner there. It's supposedly their favorite restaraunt.

As for you Nomads in SOCAL, and especially for Ken, Bayless opened a restaurant on Melrose in LA last May. We haven't been there yet, but are planning to go soon.

April

bigmike - 2-12-2011 at 04:32 PM

Jesse,
We have rented a house in April in La Paz and our planning on coming to your place as have read so much here on Nomads about it. We are going to be there April 4th until the 11th, when will Chef Bayless be filming his show.

Loretana - 2-12-2011 at 05:05 PM

Felicidades, Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I met Rick in Oaxaca ten years ago, at a restaurant a friend of mine owns. He cooks and writes books with her.

And to be honest, he will be totally inspired by your wonderful "Paceno Cuisine". I am sooooooooooo pleased for you. :saint:

If you're on TV, you still have to pay your bill. That's the way Rick and Jesse do these things.
Good try, Mike.

bajalera - 2-12-2011 at 05:56 PM

Great news Jesse==congratulations!

JESSE - 2-12-2011 at 07:53 PM

Thanks everybody, i am so excited Baja food is getting its due attention. Great taco stands, restaurants and chefs from TJ to Los Cabos. We have great seafood, olive oil, herbs and veggies, beef, lamb, the works. In 10 years everyone its going to know Baja has some of the best food in Mexico.

These past 2 yrs have been extremely difficult for us, as it has been for many of you. Its great to finally start to see things pick up a little bit. We cooked a private dinner for the outgoing governor and his entire staff last week, and at the end of the month we will travel to Constitucion to cook a dinner for new elected governor. In March we move the team to Queretaro for a dinner for the state goverment there (perhaps a 2nd Tres Virgenes at San Miguel de Allende?). And finally we are finishing details on a long time planned dinner at Punta Chivato perhaps this coming month.

I am blessed i have a great staff, i give all credit to my boys and girls who run the everyday operation at 3V.

On Charter Cable he's on ABCLW or LWN, watching him now in HD on 703.

Congrats Jesse!

I watched Rick Bayless compete against many other great chefs on the Food Network and he beat them all, took top honors!

He is a cooking genius and learned his love for Mexican food while living in Mexico.

Also, the restaurant "Red O" in Los Angeles is not his but he oversees the cooking (I have heard) and it is impossible to get in the place even with reservations.

bigmike - 2-13-2011 at 04:12 AM

Dennis,

Thanks I kinda realize I have to pay the bill even if I am on TV,
we were planning on going to Jesse's place while we are in La Paz and thought it might be nice to go when Rick Bayless is there, but regardless looking forward to a great meal there. Dennis maybe you want to pay for our dinner from your football pool winnings!! LOL:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Thanks for the tip. We don't get up to LA very often, usually just driving through. Be sure to give us your take on it.

As was mentioned he is just a consultant to RedO, a highly skilled one though! Watching him on Bravo's Top Chef Masters, which he ultimately won, was amazing!!!!

Gypsy Jan - 2-13-2011 at 08:59 AM

Sancho, Bayless' show, "Mexico, One Plate at a Time" currently airs in the afternoon at 1 pm during week on one of the LA area PBS stations. KCET (the website is kcet.org).

Jesse, I am so thrilled and happy for your success, I hope to make it to La Paz soon!

MexicoTed - 2-15-2011 at 10:42 PM

Awesome Jesse. I love Bayless's shows and can't wait to eat aty your place this year when I get down to La Paz.

David K - 2-17-2011 at 12:00 AM

Great news Jesse... I wasn't aware of him until this thread, but sounds like plenty have seen him...

Speaking of featuring Baja original foods, is the Palma Azul restaurant in Tijuana still open? We went there in 2004 and it was quite something!

BajaBlanca - 2-17-2011 at 08:55 PM

wow, that was a good radon rick bayless - sounds like he is not only an awesome chef, but also an awesome human.

congrats Jesse, I bet the last couple years were really hard, but now that you hung in there- mucho exito !!!!!!!!!!

if Les and I have not made ourselves paupers by the time we return to la paz, we shall have to stop by for a visit. congrats again.

Bajahowodd - 2-18-2011 at 05:41 PM

Hey! If Bourdain and Bayless among others can do it, maybe Jesse could get a cable deal and review restaurants too!
