Don't like the look of that map.:wow:

chippy - 3-25-2011 at 03:53 PM

Thats absolutly not gonna happen.

sanquintinsince73 - 3-25-2011 at 03:58 PM

That's what some, I won't mention names (Joejustjoe) refer to as the "Reconquista".

Given the shape of California's finances it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to give it back. Not to mention the money I'd save in property taxes.

LaTijereta - 3-25-2011 at 04:13 PM

That would make Portland the "new" TJ ...

What would become of Las Vegas:?:

DENNIS - 3-25-2011 at 04:28 PM

That's really a map of Cartel Influence...that's all. Nothing to worry about.

DENNIS - 3-25-2011 at 04:30 PM

By the way...Mexico is dropping the "United States" part of her name since it's rarely, if ever, used.

Yeah, it just didn't work. Most people think USM refers to the University of Southern Mississippi...

Vegas would become an independent country kinda like Switzerland in a weird way.

They can advertise it as, "the fun way to tithe"...

sanquintinsince73 - 3-25-2011 at 05:35 PM

A while back, some guy from a "think tank" concluded that if you took all of the people from San Diego and placed them in TJ and then took all of the people from TJ and placed them in San Diego, after 20 years TJ would look like San Diego and San Diego would look like TJ.

Monoco comes to mind...

fishabductor - 3-25-2011 at 06:48 PM

They forgot Washington, where it is the easiest state in teh union for an illegal alien to get a drivers license. I saw on the news while I was up north that there are something like 400k licenses registered to people who don't even reside in the state. they said that most of these are part of a black market ID trade. I think that WA should also be green.

We do call it the Evergreen state by the way.

Bajatripper - 3-26-2011 at 12:37 PM

Looking on the bright side--if the map were still the case--think of all that wide-open, undeveloped coastline that would still be left and available to those with less money. Heck, I could probably afford a place at La Jolla, with a nice ocean view from up high...and nobody would care about the Soledad Mountain Cross.

This isn't a comment against you, sanquintin, but I wonder what the purpose of that "thinking effort" was? Obviously, too much money at their disposal.

Agreed. I for one, would rather they "think" us out of this economic mess we are in.

Agreed, but that would require more than lip service, and neither political party has shown that they have the balls to get the job done.

If the map was a reality I would be living in a third world pee hole; instead of going there for R&R.

bryanmckenzie - 3-27-2011 at 05:23 PM

I thought this was a forum for Baja afficiandos? And by extension, Mexico? So what gives? I take Baja & Mexico for what it is. A land of beauty. Large portions unspoiled and minimally populated, looking like California did a century ago. With scarce water, scarce trees, scarce resources to look "first world" is daunting --- yet Baja has an abundance of what each of us individually seek there (fill in your own __________ items here).

I see alot of Mexico-bashing from members. Will someone please help explain the following comments to me:

"If the map was a reality I would be living in a third world pee hole; instead of going there for R&R."
- So why are you going there?

"Don't like the look of that map."
-The USA of today started this way. Pull out a chronological sequence of historical maps and the written history for an understanding of the sequence of formation of current day political boundaries. Don't take my word for it --- ref.: http://parentseyes.arizona.edu/pimeriamaps/

Also here ... http://www.sos.ca.gov/archives/collections/ussg/grant-list.h...

"Thats absolutly not gonna happen."
-You're late. It already did (past tense). By the way, the Russians made it down to the top of the green part. And actually reached Baja from the North. Spend some time at this website to understand my comments and our collective North American history (Canada is similarly ingrained, but I digress)

ref.: ... http://www.davidrumsey.com/

"A while back, some guy from a "think tank" concluded that if you took all of the people from San Diego and placed them in TJ and then took all of the people from TJ and placed them in San Diego, after 20 years TJ would look like San Diego and San Diego would look like TJ."
-Sounds basically racist & inconsiderate; the writer obviously does not understand differing cultures and customs; sounds like a separate post unto itself.

That map is close to what Mexico and the US looked like before the treaty that ended a war between the two nations. They used to sell a small poster in Mexico with a similar map on it. The caption was, "México, antes del robo."

bryanmckenzie - 3-27-2011 at 08:01 PM

Speaking of Washington. And Oregon and British Columbia, too. Going off topic here ...

There has been a long-time movement to form a separate country called Cascadia. I kind of like the idea since people in the Pacific Northwest are definitely of a different mindset. At least the ones to the west of the Cascade Range. There are websites dedicated to this eventual free nation. I'm thinking after Quebec declares complete independence. Here's one website with
flags, decals, maps, stamps, history, movement, etc.

Here's another.

Cascadia A wikiproject related to the bioregion and its culture.

Alta Columbia (NOT Baja) a comprehensive list of Cascadian autonomy and secessionist movements and groups.
