In one of the "new" rooms??

Skipjack Joe - 7-10-2011 at 08:20 AM

We stayed in one of the $35 rooms and I just had to add my support to all the others before me.

The staff was downright giddy over Mexico's victory over 'Alemania'. ;D

........

Also heard that the Canucks didn't fare so well in the Finals. There must have been some soul searching at Asuncion. Pobrecitos. :(

David K - 7-10-2011 at 08:28 AM

In the next (final) installment of my trip report, I will show photos of our room at Baja Cactus taken 6 days ago... Room 205...

bajalou - 7-10-2011 at 08:32 AM

About the 1st of May, i stayed in one of the "Old" rooms. I found it quite adequate, Clean, bed I could sleep in comfortably, clean bath room, and a TV. Suits my needs and I was very satisfied.

tiotomasbcs - 7-10-2011 at 08:44 AM

I say we should make up Baja Cactus T Shirts and we could choose from which room numbers we like best. We could even choose between the David K or Jenny N model?? Time for another Nomad party there esp for us new guys. Choose your weapon, amigos. I'll take the T with an older room as I'm paranoid about dirtying up a new one! Tio

I love starting out with a clean room because I am perfectly capable of making my own mess.:cool:

I would hazard a guess that considering the finish, amenities, and price, there's no better place to consider between Ensenada and Loreto.

Alas, given that Antonio and family are long time business folks in this town, and just my personal opinion, the downside is that it's in El Rosario.

Over the years, many members here have posted their personal choices up and down Baja. For me, the town has always felt just a little bit creepy to me.

That said, since most of y'all don't have that same bias, by all means, you're not going to find a better flop from Ensenada to Loreto. Go for it.

Too bad that you didn't enjoy the Baja-Rosario Cultural Festival of 2005, 2006 and 2007... I think it may have changed how you 'felt' about this small farming and fishing town. Baja Angel and I would consider making the area a part time residence, after meeting the town folks...

After dealing with the heat and dust for so long it was great to roll into this motel and really baby yourself.

We watched:

(1) 2 episodes of Seinfeld (Kramer tries to sell a 'manzier')
(2) "Family Guy" (the dad recognizes Jesus at a health food store)
(3) "Gettysberg"

It's set up to make you feel back home. For one night we no longer felt like we were in Mexico.

J.P. - 7-11-2011 at 11:36 AM

When we first started going down south fron the Gold Country Baja Catcus and Mama Esponisas was kind of a no brainer for a stop. aftes living in Ensenada Area for eight years It doesnt make much sense to stop there, usually stop in San Quintene for breakfast then roll on. Its not like it was in the begining Now there are lots of good resturants and motels all along the route.

"Can you tell us how to do it; are there LAN/network receptacles in the rooms(my preference) or is it wireless without much monkeying around?"

LAN in the rooms - not sure about wireless as I have just used the LAN connection in the room. I do bring my own ethernet cord. Jim

Seriously, DK, I appreciate your post. However, as I stated at the beginning, going back many years, the vibe there just unsettles me.

Everyone else is welcome to enjoy all that El Rosario has to offer.

I stop in many places during our trips down and up the peninsula, and I'd hazard a guess that some of my faves would draw complaints from some of those in this community.

Different strokes, ya know!

Count me in as a Baja Cactus Motel and staff fan!

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a couple restaurants that delivered. You could get your room and place an order then take the much awaited for shower and clean up and not have to wait too long for a tasty meal. Maybe $30 extra per meal delivered?

Bajahowodd - 7-11-2011 at 05:54 PM

A secret. perhaps, is that Antonio is being defferential to Dona Anita.

Thanks! Corrected spelling, too!!:light:

For those of you heading south please stay at the Baja Cactus Motel in El Rosario for a night of rest. I stayed there for four days and was not disappointed. They have very nice rooms for 250 Pesos and up. I stayed in the 250 Peso a night room and was very happy with my room. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Stay there and eat at Mama Espinoza’s Restaurant.

Pescador - 10-25-2011 at 06:22 AM

My only complaint about staying at Baja Cactus is that the closest available restaurant is Mama Espinoza's. I stayed at Baja Cactus 9 times this summer and fall and did not really have a good meal at Mamas any of those times. I like all the people working there, it has really been cleaned up. Breakfast is wonderful, but I have come to prefer the taco stand across the street. I did have a friend who recommended the crab soup, so maybe I will give it one more chance.

Drive down to the other end of town and eat at Ed's "Baja's Best Bar & Restaurant" or Hugo's "Tacos Mision" for different experiences. There are other places as well!

Really had much the same thought ... seemed like a natural ... IMHO

Not sure of total costs to the operations .... but, sure think there would be more than a few takers on "delivery" to the room .... I mean ya can order a lot of other "things" from ones room and/or camp site ..... just saying.. :):)

David, anyone else: I only eat at Ed's but wondering if any other places measure up -- I'm talking about sit down, ambiance, etc.

Mula - 10-25-2011 at 09:45 AM

Boy, howdy, I sure would use the delivery service to the Baja Cactus.
Nothing worse than having to get in the rig again to go out for dinner. And too stiff to walk - even tho' . . .

Always had bad meals at Mama's.

Maybe Antonio will see this and make it happen.

We used to eat some meals at Primo's BOCANA BEACH RESTAURANT (now SINAHI RESTAURANT, or both names on the building)... In front of the Sinahi Motel and RV Park. Had a couple less than special meals there, and with so many other choices in El Rosario, haven't gone back recently.

Here is a map that I made of El Rosario in 2006... with the restaurants/ taco stands highlighted:

There are restaurants at #13, #30 and #34, and others... but we haven't been to them since 2005/ 2006... We have had such good food at Ed's and Hugo's, no need to go other places.

There is a NEW restaurant across from Ed's at the end of town, in front of the new TURISTA MOTEL. (Bad name for a restaurant, if they use Turista!)

Antonio's master plan calls for a mini market between the Pemex and motel that will have a taco stand inside.

will the taco stand emplyees be using the bano at the pemex station?

:barf:

what el rosario needs is some food on the lighter side, perhaps a vietnemese restaurant!

is there a vietnamese deli or restaurant anywhere in baja?
