So do you want to be in pictures?

krafty - 7-16-2011 at 10:33 AM

Fox Studios in Rosarito is looking for 300 Caucasion folks and Asians for a movie to be filmed there starting the end of August. Cast calls start today and continue every day except Sundays for several weeks. The movie is called Little Man and the pay is $70.00/day.
This can do nothing but help the economy down here, so I say good news!

toneart - 7-16-2011 at 10:36 AM

Is this the first time they have used the facilities since The Titanic?

krafty - 7-16-2011 at 10:59 AM

J.P. - 7-16-2011 at 02:25 PM

Work Permit and Taxes

The Gull - 7-17-2011 at 06:53 AM

It will be even more interesting when someone checks the papers on those "workers" in Baja to discover that they don't have work permits and no registration with Hacienda.

Could be interesting.

ncampion - 7-17-2011 at 07:35 AM

What makes you think they are going to check papers????

It's a sting by INM

krafty - 7-17-2011 at 08:19 AM

Papers? Well that would be just dandy, wouldn't it? They are bringing jobs here; but it would be just like the gov. to once again shoot themselves in the foot. I understand they go from here to Cabo to finish up the movie. Get your papers ready, SOB

on a somewhat related topic, I sometimes go up to Burbank to see my favorite sitcoms being filmed. It takes three hours- but they usually give you pizza and water. They also have movie extra positions from time to time:

I went by Fox studios yesterday. Lot's of Mexicans lined up at the gate, but the casting call is for whites and Asians to recreate an early 1940's city scene. You have to park your car on the street though- they don't allow private cars on the lot. I said "no thanks" to that and went back home.

Two cars were broken into at Popotla a little while later- so I'm glad I took off:

"Car Thieves in Popotla"
ROSARITO, Baja California (PH)
With just 10 minutes apart, two cars parked in the same place in Popotla were attacked by robbers who took money and resources of their owners. The first of these events occurred around 14:05 hours When Maria de Jesus Warner parked outside a business where purchases take place, but upon returning to his car 2000 model Toyota Tundra, he realized the lack of a black colored bag that had two visas, one license, social security, telephone phone and two credit cards. The injured said they were likely responsible for the robbery were transported in a van Aerostar black, so immediately, Municipal Police officers were given the task of locating the same, although the end without positive results. But that did not end the problem, as only 10 minutes later, approached the uniformed Mauricio Calderon, who reported that under similar conditions had reached a business area and therefore had left his truck parked Sierra model 2007 with California plates. In similar conditions to the case before returning to his car, he realized that had been opened by thieves, who among other belongings they took with them three walks, and although we searched the area without positive results."

Did this occur in the fishing village or on the main blvd? Can't imagine why anyone would leave all that id's, cc's, etc. in their car.And a 2000 tundra is not exactly a car they would be interested in stealing.
We went down to the village last wknd. after the casting call in a Mercedes SUV (new) and no problema.

A movie set in northern California during World War II is being shot in Baja California, bringing a $14 million investment that state officials said Monday will breathe new life into the region's film industry.

Called “Little Boy,” it tells the story of an 8-year-old who dreams about rescuing his father from the war. The scenery moves from a Norman Rockwell-esque town to a prisoner-of-war camp in the Philippines to the devastation of Hiroshima following the atomic bomb.

Eduardo Verastegui, a Mexican actor, is co-producing the film through Los Angeles-based Metanoia Films. The director is Alejandro Monteverde, who is co-author of the script with Pepe Portillo. Actors include Ben Chaplin and Emily Watson.

Most of the action will be shot at Baja Film Studios south of downtown Rosarito Beach, the same location where James Cameron’s 1997 film “Titanic” was filmed.

On Monday, Baja California’s governor, Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan joined other authorities in touring a set built do look like a town on a bluff that overlooks the ocean.Other locations around the state also will be used as backdrops, including the Guadalupe Valley, the Laguna Salada and the Casa de Cultura in Tijuana.

State authorities announced that the production will generate more than 1,000 jobs, and said that over than 90 percent of the staff will be local hires. Juan Tintos, Baja California’s tourism secretary, said members of Rosarito’s large ex-pat community will be enlisted as extras.

“It’s a good investment, it’s good for the location,” Tintos said.

Filming began in June and is expected to continue through November. The movie is scheduled for release in 2012

güero - 8-3-2011 at 09:07 AM

I went for the casting just this last Saturday and they let me park inside the gate. Hope to get the job, I really could use the $70 (paid daily). Don't worry, I won't forget all of you if I get discovered and become a star.

That's good they let you park on the studio grounds. I think a lot of old white guys like me told them "no thanks" at parking on the street and simply drove off. I also decided this white guy doesn't really want to stand in the sun wearing a 1940's four piece zoot suit all day. Movies aren't filmed in the shade and August is the hottest month here. Have fun those who are doing it though and stay away from the donut table!

Yes, THAT Kevin James Has Been Cast In The Drama ‘Little Boy’

Is the world ready for Kevin James the actor? The Zookeeper is going to play a role that doesn’t require him to lose his balance for a change of pace. James will appear in Little Boy, an indie drama centering around a troubled boy who is left alone when his father heads off to World War II. Awww, c’mon, Kevin. Show the kid a tumble to cheer him up. There’s a rope swing right over there.

The film will star newcomer Jakob Salvati as well as Emily Watson, Ben Chaplin, and David Henrie. Director Alejandro Monteverde conducted a nationwide casting search before discovering Salvati. Little Boy begins filming at the end of August in Baja, California where James is told they have really, really good tacos. But seriously, are we ready to see James in non-marooonic fare? Would be pretty funny to see him split his pants at the Oscars.

Metanoia plays with 'Little Boy'

By James Young

L.A.-based Metanoia Films is set to make helmer Alejandro Monteverde's "Little Boy," starring Ben Chaplin, Emily Watson and David Henrie.

Pic is budgeted at $24 million, funded by a nearly 50-50 split between U.S. and Mexican investors.

Little Boy" is a family drama set in small-town America in the early days of WWII. It revolves around an 8-year-old with developmental problems. His only friend is his father, and with his departure to war, the troubled boy is forced to confront the cruelty of schoolmates and others.

Filmmakers held a nationwide casting for the titular role, coming up with first-timer Jakob Salvati.

Pic will begin an 11-week shoot in Baja California at the end of August and should be ready for play in 2012.

Metanoia is taking advantage of the state's new film promotion law that establishes a framework for films to work with the government and local industry, centered largely around the independent Baja Studios, where "Titanic" was shot.

Film will also shoot in Rosarito beach, Ensenada, Tijuana and Tecate.

Metanoia was founded in 2005 by Monteverde, thesp-producer Eduardo Verastegui, childhood friends from Mexico, along with Leo Severino.

In choosing Baja, Verastegui noted the support of Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna and praised Baja Studios prexy Kurt Honold for undercutting the competition in what the studios hope will be the start of a long relationship with Metanoia.

The film will apply for the Fondo ProAudioVisual rebate that was created last year to attract "high-impact" productions. It would be the first of such projects for Baja California and the fifth overall to take the federal rebate.

Metanoia's first outing was 2006's "Bella," helmed by Monteverde and produced by and starring Verastegui.

Budgeted at $3 million, the pic earned $40 million worldwide and took the audience prize at Toronto -- a first for a Mexican director, paving the way for the larger scale "Little Boy."
