New B & B in Bahia Asuncion

Russ - 8-27-2011 at 10:21 AM

OMG ... These are the first photos I've seen of my good friends B & B.
I am totally impressed. I had no idea that it would be such a classy place. Jean & Ed are full timers down here. Jean is a Mexican citizen and is fluent in Spanish and Ed is learning very quickly and has no problems communicating with the locals. I'll go on about them later but I wanted to be the first to show their place.

Upper two units under construction.

Front from beach side

Street side view

Ocean view

Patio between units

I'll post more pics as I receive them. They're without inter at the moment. They're making the finishing touches on the place now so I'm pretty sure they'll have a wireless system in the near future and you might just get a discount until they've completed the project. I'll let them tell you what they have to offer for a very reasonable rate.
Call Jean or Ed for bookings: 615-104-3524 or from the United States, 011 521 615-104-3524

Do they have a boat ramp? (just kidding)

Looks like a quality (and very quiet which I like) place to stay.

CP - 8-27-2011 at 10:47 AM

Looks very nice.
What are stacked on the fence posts?

shari - 8-27-2011 at 10:47 AM

muchas felicidades Ed & Jean....I was wondering when they were going to announce this project. Alot of hard work has gone into it and it's really coming along...when's the inauguration party???

New appliances

shari - 8-27-2011 at 10:50 AM

the stacked things are pismo shells with holes in them that were used to stamp out game pieces for the game "Goh" ..there is a small industry here for that...pretty cool and unique idea eh.

CP - 8-27-2011 at 10:55 AM

Thanks Shari,
Goh pieces. That is very interesting. I thought they might be Pismo shells but could not understand someone putting holes in them for a fence. How cool to have the shells be so utilized!

shari - 8-27-2011 at 11:05 AM

yeah, I loved the idea....there are huge piles of them strewn about the desert and yours for the taking...good recycling project.

Russ...is there a website for the new B&B...what's it called?

Russ - 8-27-2011 at 11:22 AM

No web site yet.
They are Nomads here but without internet at their place right now they need to go into town.

woody with a view - 8-27-2011 at 11:52 AM

nice place. really nice.... so that leaves me out!:lol::lol:

BajaBlanca - 8-27-2011 at 11:55 AM

we too have been watching this project come to fruition !!! every time we go by asuncion, it is more and more beautiful ! gorgeous, and it nearly is done, by the look of the photos ....

what a major project this was - congrats Ed and Jean ! wishing you a lot of success !!

ummmmm and don't forget to invite everyone to the inauguration party !! there ay not be enough rooms between you and shari's places to handle all of us :)

Prices for the B & B

DianaT - 8-27-2011 at 12:07 PM

This new place is beautiful---lots of attention to detail. For instance, the picture of the first bathroom is one that is off the common patio so that when outside one does not have to go through the unit to use the bathroom or if the bathroom in the unit is occupied, there will be another bathroom available. The sofa bed is a comfortable one.

Since they do not get into town everyday for internet, they said to go ahead and post the prices.

The front unit with the beautiful ocean view is $75.00 a night for two people----of course breakfast in included.

The street side unit with the private patio is $65.00 a night for two people--breakfast included. The private patio is also a place one can safely leave their dog when they are out and about. Yes, they are pet friendly to friendly pets.

Ed and Jean are really great people and we are very much enjoying having them as neighbors. The plan right now is to be open from July through the end of November. We wish them the best of luck with this new venture.

That is their plan right now, but it may change----things always do.

BajaBlanca - 8-27-2011 at 01:55 PM

thanks. thought i had misunderstood.

Bajahowodd - 8-27-2011 at 03:40 PM

Place looks beautiful. That July through November thingy seems to ignore the whale season. Strange, since that time brings the most tourists down to GN through San Ignacio.

Russ - 8-27-2011 at 03:54 PM

They also have a nice home here in Chivato and I suspect that they would like the warmer winter weather. Also they have a lot of friends here that are winter folk. And it would give them some time to play in their studios and make stuff. Jean also takes a group of mostly ladies over to Mexico on a tour she's run for years. Another one of her many hats.

redmesa - 8-27-2011 at 03:56 PM

Wow! The place is beyond anything I was expecting. I new it would be very nice but this is stunning. When I spoke to Ed he said that this was their summer place away from Chivato.

submarine_dbk - 8-28-2011 at 07:03 AM

Jean and Ed have been our dear friends, guardian angels and neighbors in Punta Chivato for nearly five years now. Wonderful, gracious, warm folks - involved in their communities and class acts all the way. They've built a beautiful place there in B.A and we wish them all the best in this venture.

Oddjob - 8-29-2011 at 07:13 AM

Looks like a great place to stay.

oladulce - 8-29-2011 at 07:53 AM

How did they make the trim moulding above and below the parapet tile? Did they attach the actual foam "moldura" and plaster or paint it?

Or use the foam moulduras as a form for the concrete and then poured the mouldings? I'd love to know how they set up the forms to get this double layer effect if they poured the trim this way.

I am sure the moldura was attached to block wall and painted.

BajaBlanca - 8-29-2011 at 09:22 PM

the attention to detail is just outstanding. the more you look, the more you notice. beautiful !!

Pescador - 8-30-2011 at 09:44 AM

One of the things that Ed is thinking of doing is helping people get set up to go Kayak fishing which is so cool in that area. He has figured out where the really good spots are and they are going to be a great resource for visiting kayak fishermen.

yes. easier to nail on foam and plaster it, then paint.

Oddjob - 8-31-2011 at 02:04 PM

Is this place south or north of town?

surfdoc - 8-31-2011 at 02:11 PM

Kind of west of town...

Ed kayak fishes ??? Didn't know that, one thing is true tho.. The detail is awsome, and the view is one of the best in town.. Very well thought out!

Best of luck with the new Biz!!!!!!!

Russ - 8-31-2011 at 03:10 PM

Here ya go. Should be able to see it easily from the end of the asphalt.

Russ - 8-31-2011 at 05:18 PM

I just hear from Jean, She's elated with all the Nomad responses and has a weeks bookings already. Jean apologizes for not responding herself and will soon get it together. Her e-mail is Jean c-ckelreas <jeanbcs@hotmail.com>

Could be..or a great big stamp.
The window to the right could use some framing decoration as well. It just looks like a big hole in the wall.

BajaBlanca - 9-3-2011 at 02:50 PM

great picture of the dynamic duo !!

greengoes - 9-6-2011 at 02:27 PM

They do look happy.

bajafam - 9-7-2011 at 06:31 PM

Ed and Jean are great folks....we are happy to have them as neighbors and wish them well in their endeavors!!

Russ - 9-9-2011 at 02:26 PM

Here they are in front of their sign

BajaBlanca - 9-9-2011 at 03:01 PM

Congrtulations Jean and Ed - the sign means the place is ready for business !!! Just in time for the tuna (where are they anyways ???)

Oddjob - 9-10-2011 at 01:39 PM

Things are looking up in BA with this new B&B and the new Palapa restaurant.

Lauriboats - 9-11-2011 at 08:29 AM

The place looks great, I wish you both the best of luck.

Russ - 9-15-2011 at 06:01 PM

Just received some interior shots and the word is they very busy getting things finished up and ready for you.

bajamigo - 9-15-2011 at 06:55 PM

Very classy-looking place. They should do really well.

Lobsterman - 9-15-2011 at 07:14 PM

Now I could live in that joint.

I know I swore I would not venture back to baja but this place intigues me. Never been there but been reading and hearing about it for many years. Also it's only a day drive from San Diego. God I just hate the sireen lure of baja.

greengoes - 9-16-2011 at 07:30 PM

Outstanding!!!

Buena suerte on the venture. Are you planning on getting into charter fishing?

Oddjob - 9-17-2011 at 10:06 AM

Has anyone stayed at this beautiful place yet? I'm looking forward to a report.

Russ - 9-24-2011 at 10:38 AM

They are open and already have had a few guests so you'll need to call ahead.
615-104-3524 or from the United States, 011 521 615-104-3524
Heard there were some tuna off shore 20 miles yesterday. Some footballs and at least two tackle busters. Hopefully there will be a good run this year.

Up and running

tipper - 9-25-2011 at 12:32 PM

Hello all, this is Jean from Bahia Asuncion B&B. We've had some really great guests who've loved the place--we'll that's what they said!! Two casitas are ready, my awesome kitchen is almost done along with the breakfast room. We are booked until the first week in October, have some bookings around Oct. 20. Manuel Arce Aguilar, a local guide says he's doing great and got his first good tuna. Victor Verduzco, another guide, was out yesterday and brought in the yellowtail. So things are looking good. Prices are $65 usd for 2, including breakfast. Hope to see some of you soon!!

tipper - 9-25-2011 at 12:43 PM

Hey Oddjob: here is the the blogspot from one of our guests, know you were looking for someone who had been here. Totally understandable, it's at the end of a very long road!!

Hope this helps!!

greengoes - 10-2-2011 at 08:08 AM

I would have to say the people that wrote the blog about the stay there were more than satisfied. It is good to hear of a succes story in these times of uncertainty in Baja Sur.

tipper - 10-12-2011 at 04:34 PM

It's a good thing I look at this site from time to time. I didn't even know we had something posted in Chivato....Thanks. We are enjoying a few wonderful customers in Bahia Asuncion, mostly surfers to date. Still waiting for the tuna to come in. I'm in Chivato right now for a couple days and it's gorgeous. Well, let's face it, most of Baja is lovely and diverse. What a wonderful place we all get to be. Life is good.
