BORDER CROSSING ON LABOR DAY

DENNIS - 9-6-2011 at 07:52 AM

Did anyone do the border back to the states yesterday? Just wondering how big a nightmare it was as it may be another indication as to the recovering tourist industry......or not.

I happen to look at the Border Wait site yesterday
Labor day, I'm thinking about walking over this Sat.
to TJ just to stroll around Revo,
about 2 pm the pedestrian line was REPORTED to be 1 1/2 hr., vehicle 1 hr. 20 min., sounds a little weak on the
vehicle line to me. I listen to the San Diego sports radio
station, they have Border Crossing Wait Times, often
mid week afternoon it is close to 2 hrs., I wouldn't bet it is often
longer on weekdays due to the daily crossers than
even on Weekend days

A friend just called

Dave - 9-6-2011 at 12:37 PM

She just crossed at San Ysidro and said it took 2 1/2 hours.

The US Border Wait Times site is grossly inaccurate....almost always. They just stay true to form and refuse to be helpful.

WOW...2.5 on a Tuesday in the heat. That sucks.

jeffg - 9-6-2011 at 01:18 PM

We crossed at Otay yesterday at about 3:30pm. 20 minutes in the Sentri line. The pedestrian line looked pretty short too.

bajadock - 9-6-2011 at 04:41 PM

El Mexicano reported a 4 hour wait at SY yesterday. The article attempts to place partial blame on 3 lanes being closed.

Will a somewhat accurate wait time ever be published? Surely the technology is available.

Had friends here and they left Rosarito at 9:30 in the am-said it was 2 hrs. at SY.

I doubt it, Doc. Bad guys will use anything to gain an edge. ICE knows that and couldn't care less how misinformation screws up the traveling public.

TBcountry - 9-6-2011 at 05:09 PM

Crossed San Ysidro yesterday about 5pm. Thank goodness for Sentri...took us only only about 20 minutes. Looked like close to 2-2 1/2 hr wait in regular lanes but it was the walking lane that looked the worse, I would say 2-3 hrs at least

bajadock - 9-6-2011 at 05:09 PM

True, Dennis. My fault for thinking I was a U.S. taxpayer expecting representation.

Lucky me, I've got my SD trips down to "grape juice" shopping every 2 months or so.

Bring your bike. We can ride. Saw someone :dudette: representing Punta Banda Bike Club at Bike the Bay on the 28th.

mcfez - 9-6-2011 at 05:26 PM

That's a long wait indeed...with he heat and kids. Longest I ever done was 2 hours...and that was pure Hell.

CortezBlue - 9-6-2011 at 06:28 PM

If it counts, I crossed at Calexico East and with SENTRI, Zero wait. On standard crossing, I would estimate at about 45 minutes at 2pm.

woody with a view - 9-6-2011 at 06:28 PM

sunday at 6.30pm 1.5 hours.

That isn't bad for that day and time. Had Monday not been a holiday, you would probably have said goodbye to twice that time.

O.G. - 9-6-2011 at 06:32 PM

My worst mistake some months back was to drive a stick shift auto back . The constant effort of working the clutch pedal for 2 hours in the line left me with black and blue discolorations on my left foot! Ouch!!

grace59 - 9-6-2011 at 08:05 PM

I crossed at the old gate in Mexicali yesterday at about 8:30 am. The crossing time was only about 20 minutes (NOT in the Sentri Lane). It was the shortest wait that we've ever had...maybe because we left San Felipe early in the morning.

Bajabound2005 and I did Bike the Bay wearing our red Punta Banda Bike Club shirts; three other friends from PB did it, too.

Thanks, Matt. The PB Bicycle Club's energy and endurance have shamed me into retirement. They are mighty road warriors.

Perhaps we need a taco smackdown at Lucha Libre in SD?

Hope you and yours are cooling off during this quickie warm streak.

San Ysidro, tried the "left" lanes this time (on Monday). A little longer than 3 hours, from about 7:15-10:15p +/-.

On the ride out after the party I spoke briefly with one of you. Good times.

Not really... as you're well aware.

There's two ways to get into the left side... either from 2nd (Juarez & up the loop), or from Zona Rio by Costco. We came in from 2nd, and the line was all the way back to Constitucion... which is quite a few blocks. That's the longest I've ever seen it.

Most of the past decade or more - when crossing at San Ysidro - I've used the right side.. but on someone's opinion/advice, thought I'd try the left side again. I found their reasoning to be valid - but would likely approach that side from Paseo de los Heroes next time.

:)

We are staying cool. You stopped riding? We are always up for a taco smackdown!

SFandH - 9-7-2011 at 05:49 PM

I spent 2 hours at Otay today. The line wasn't all that long but it moved REAL SLOW. I had the car in park a lot. No merges or anything like that. They were just moving them through slowly. Maybe they figure if the lines are short they can do a more thorough inspection. I don't know, but it sucked sitting in line with the car in park, not moving for minutes at a time.

I would have taken the ready lane but my passenger didn't have a RFID. The ready lane had a huge line in it, maybe 3 times as long as the others, but it moved quickly. I watched it as I sat there, not moving.

J.P. - 9-7-2011 at 07:22 PM

I have noticed people posting on our local buliten board looking for a ride to SD only if you have Senti.:lol::lol:

I already razzed our fearless leader about TKT... :light:

Although, I have waited 3 hours there as well... but of all the times I go across there, only twice has it been over 45 min.
