JESSE - 11-26-2011 at 10:24 AM

This is not the bajanomads i joined many years ago, its not fun anymore, and i don't need more negativity in my life. I started on the amigos board back in 98 and then later the nomads board because this was a great way to love baja, to keep in touch with everything baja, to meet good people, to help friends, to learn, to dream, and its not any of those things aymore.

Gracias to all.

Having a bad day, Jesse? Don't leave. There's no sense in letting anything here drive you away....besides, it isn't the same without you and your opinions/facts etc..
By giving up, you're throwing away a good opportunity to polish your arguementation skills, which I thought were getting pretty good.
It's Nomad, Jesse....not church. You know better than most how the game is played here and it makes no sense to me why you would accept defeat and quit.
But, do what you feel you must, and before you leave, let me remind you it's not the first time and you'll be back....so why bother going through all this nonsense.

Remember this?

Know how you feel Jesse:
I have the same problem so have just about been able to stay off the Off Topic and have decided not to respond to the 'Bunch of Commie Nuts in TJ".
The Childish BS going on with Somebody is this and has 15 names and hates mexico is beyond belief or answering

You have been a good help and should stay and just answer those Posts that are not produced by the Commie./Socie Nuts and their Childish BS..

I, for one, will miss your posts, Jesse. You are a very valued member of this board and I wish you would just take a deep breath and stay with us.

But I do agree that certain very limited members of this forum have made it unpleasant and difficult----------and I now try my best to just ignor them, and not "go there".

Of course your decision, but I hope you decide to "stay".

Could be-- there's a certain morbid fascination in watching catfights.

But beyond that, I see it more like being in a c-cktail party. You wander from group to group. Over in that corner a couple of drunks are yelling insults at each other and begin to duke it out. You roll your eyes and join a group talking peacefully about Thanksgiving dinner, and after a couple of minutes the drunk left standing from the corner brawl, staggers over to your Thanksgiving group and starts name-calling anyone who will react. Is it voyeuristic to be disturbed in this situation?

OK, FNG here, again, but Jesse, I gotta tell you: BajaNomad is ALL of those things to me. I have, with sick curiosity (like driving through a bad car wreck), watched the threads turn nasty with pointed jabs and insults and I was having real trouble deciding who really was the Dick, but I just gave that up. I'm here to glean the information and LOVE for Baja California and, yes, one another, that I see in (almost) all these posts. I forget who said that "Democracy is messy", but so is a social forum. Intelligent discussion can (often) give way to inane idiocy. To err is human. Yes, there are trolls who love to hate. I compare this to the Taliban: There really aren't very many of them, but they are REALLY nasty, vocal, and ARMED. That makes them powerful and dangerous only if no one stands up to them. That takes guts, no doubt. The other 99% of us are good people who care about the place (Baja California in this instance), the inhabitants, the environment and one another. We're all a little (a lot) beat down by the SH**storm that was 2011. That's understandable. Get the December Issue of Esquire. As an American it will put a little kick back in your step. I'm upbeat about our upcoming trip. As a result of this website (you guys), we are considering Mulege, La Paz, Bahia Gonzaga, Bahia Los Angeles, etc for our RV camping trip. Already been to DF, San Felipe, San Pancho, Penasco, Guadalajara, Guaymas, Bahia Kino, Vallarta, etc. etc. Can't WAIT to see Baja California. I thank all of YOU for that. Well, almost all of you. Not sure why all the animosity exists and don't care. Some slight years ago, whatever. Doesn't matter. Really. Get over it. Get on with it. I'm somewhat naive maybe, but think back to 9/11 and what was important to you on 9/12. It sure as HELL wasn't some petty squabble. Don't wait for a life-event like that to wake you up as to what your priorities are.
Internet Anonymity has a way of changing people, and usually not in a good way. Politeness necessary in a face to face discussion goes out the door. I'm a pretty good judge of character and I can tell that I'm really looking forward to meeting most of you in person. THANK YOU all for the constructive contributions to this website. Jesse, I want you to know that we're still out here. H.

Baja nomads is presumably the only way for gringos in Baja to communicate with one another.
People are not quiting, they are being driven out by unwanted party guests
The quote above describes this web page well. Alcoholics have no perception of how badly they hurt the people around them.

Jesse posted a thread requesting that people stop trashing the baja web page with anti Mexico posts.
http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=56447#pid6725...
His thread turned into 6 pages of I hate Mexico and Mexicans posts.

Quote:

It's Nomad, Jesse

This is the train of thought that drives legitimate people away. With no effective leader ship Baja Nomads will continue to collect mentally challenged people who are no longer allowed to post on other web sites. People with abnormal brain chemistry can not be talked to or reasoned with..

Doug
Since you have given up on policing your web page ...
pass the baton to someone else.
create a 2 post per day limit for each computer, (not log in name.) The nomads will surely take up a collection to pay some to fix this page if you don't want to do it your self.

BajaBlanca - 11-26-2011 at 12:00 PM

take a deep breath, Jesse.

I do agree that sometime the comments are so nasty that one wonders what would ever inspire anyone to waste their time being mean, really mean, ridiculously calous.

We have met soooooooooo many readers who never post. They just lurk without feeling free to write and be heard without being brutally and viciously attacked. Which IMHO is very sad.

Or perhaps I'm wrong; does anybody else care about regaining civil discourse around here?

:?:

Hard for me to look into a crystal ball and see what the future holds for the Internet, streaming media, and online bulletin boards (or other information sources)....

..but nothing's going on right now here that hasn't gone on in the past. Multiple times - and with different folks. And frankly, some of those "productive majority" have indicated they love it, and others hate it. Go figure.

:?:

And you're right - in another post - there's only so much I can do with the (pretty significant) time I spend here almost every day (trips to Baja being the only exception to this).

There are too many "balls in play" here to go over - and some of it needs to be done privately, as usual.

It seems everyone will have a different definition of what needs "cleaning up", as well as what "civil discourse" is. I've found the variation in the latter to be quite a challenge for years and years now.

Thank you also for your concern. I appreciate it. :)

I have been on this Board, coming over from the previous Owner Oh so many years ago.
The Board did a very good job until the "Bunch" got on and started all of the BS about Fulano, Jihad, etc.'
I have to admit that sometimes it is difficult to pass by the Post.
Could it be that Doug could make the off Topic completely out of Site and open only to those who agree if they go onto the Board???

Most of the Posts by the "Bunch' is all False Lies made up to get attention. Ifeel for some of the Youngsters who get on their Threads and beleive all the Bull Puckey, but some do beleive it!!

What a Shame.

I was thinking of that same post by IFlyFish from yesterday. A "kick me" thing by a victim to gain sympathy. You don't have to announce you are leaving if you really want to leave- you just do it. He needs to reinvent himself a third time anyway- just like Baja has.

Rights? What rights? Nobody has a right to tell others what to say as long as that said adheres to the written rules interpreted by the author and administrator.

I contend that the fractuous behavior has intrinsic value to the site. Of course, grossly inappropriate behavior has no place here.
BajaNomad has earned a reputation as THE word on Baja issues, and has done so in the midst of turmoil as well as peaceful dialogue. This isn't a garden party.....neither is Baja. They're both tough places to deal with.

I agree with you completely. Somewhere though, because of the variation of sensitivities, there needs to be a mark set for the "middle ground" (or, the "line", if you will). Where should that be? Everyone will have a different opinion. How much more moderation will be required to raise that "level"? Who's going to do it? While never to everyone's approval (or anyone in particular - other than myself I suppose), I've done my best to remain consistent in applying those rules, and that's always the key issue, it ends up being the judgement of when those rules are being violated. Again, everyone's opinion/judgement differs. We all carry our own set of sensitivity levels - including the interpretation of written communications and the intent the author had.

Ayyyy.... yaaaay yaaaay.

OK,YOU GUYS I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS.

I've been watching these 2 threads for the past couple of days. This will be my one and only response to all this B.S. As I refuse to become involved. I have better things to do. And besides as I've said here before " do not argue with idiots, people may not be able to tell who's who. "

However, I think I may have a solution to this whole matter.

We should have a wonderful Baja Nomad Garden Party at the Pyramid next weekend. All Nomads are invited and Mcfez and I will gleefully volunteer our services and abilities as peace keepers, sargent at arms and BOUNCERS. All parties not at peace and in agreement by the end of the day will have the next day in rehabilitation and therapy with the two of us..........

And that's not counting current members that frequently hurl insults around with impunity, without any repercussion, which should be the task of the moderator.

Yes, then you could rename this board "TalkBaja" and limit discussions to:
1. The latest fish catch.
2. The latest Baja home construction project.
3. The latest new restaurant that opened up in the same location as the last failed restaurant.
4. How to get to Rosarito from San Ysidro.
5. How to renew your FM2/3.

I estimate that would drop the total post count down to 5 or 10 per day.

We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and the oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill

Jessie...you been around too long to let a few twerps push you down. Get up when pushed to the ground...Get up when pushed to the ground...Get up when pushed to the ground......dont let them win! My "Gramps" used to say that to me. I live by those words each day...you should too. Get your butt back in here.

Free speech is great....you have to take the good...with the bad. That's free speech.

I posted this this a.m. at this topic...about free speech and changes that I demand to be made at the Bajanomads:

Suggestions, Comments, or Issues
posted on 11-26-2011 at 03:18 PM

I agree with a lot of the responses here. I demand change to the BN immediately! Here's a list of no no's that should be enforced:

No humorous replies
No political replies
Religious remarks absolutely nada
I dont like cats...no photos of them.
Dead ducks hunting pictures.....instant bans should be imposed.
Recommended cooking recipes that sounds bad.
Giving away "secret" surf spot locations
Misspelling of the Baja towns...gets a whipping from DavidK
Accusing others of stealing DENNIS's trash can
And of most importance: not addressing McFez as "Sir McFez".

Lastly to be said....Doug means does indeed watches his BN here. I have seen stuff bumped to Off Topics...and stuff that disappeared it seems. I have seen idiots banned here..many times. Hell....he even got rid of that yankeeirishman years back :-) Doug was fair. I was not. I deserved to had been banned....same as others that have been put on that road.

Hell....I even like DENNIS ;)

There's no noise on TalkBaja, Larry, and they have 3 posts a day -- every single one a BajaNomad. Where are all the people who are holding back? Hmmmmmm?

Pure bulllsht, Larry. If Noobs want to come on board with legitimate questions or answers, they won't be molested. Their input will be welcomed.....graciously.

The idea, propagated by you and some others, that this place will eat out your heart if you dare say a word, is crap. You only support the BS idea that the Nomad board is dangerous territory.
Why do you do that? You only fortify the myth....the lie.

New posters here are judged by their first post....be it question or answer. It's on them to make their place here.
Some do.....Some don't, but this isn't hell on earth.
Have your friends get on board and join us. If they have the balls for Baja, they have the balls for BajaNomad.

About how the Baja Nomad community can (maybe) be self healing.

Jesse is a long-time poster who is very knowledgeable about life and politics in Baja and who shares that information with the English posting Nomads.

He gets targeted by trolls (or maybe worse) and got tired about getting harassed about his posts on Nomad.

In a matter of hours, there is more than a thousand views, several hundred posts, most of them positive.

I don't know if Jesse is a little bit less p****d off by now, but the Nomad community has responded in an overwhelmingly positive manner, even if it is in a predictably jokey, goofy way.

Jesse, my dos pesos, just delete messages from people that upset you, but please keep us Nomads updated on your restaurant and your other projects.

Sincerely yours, Gypsy Jan

Yes there are a few things and people that I disagree with but all in all it is a great way to know Baja and contact people that feel the same.
I don't know you but I suggest you just ignore the people/conversations you don't want to enter and concentrate on interestings things such as photos, camping, restaurants and points of interest.
I think this is a very informative board and I have gained knowledge by being a member.

Sure Dennis, and please consider that this is my, a Newbi’s experience and perhaps I am just not on the same wavelength as some of the more prolific posters.

I see attacks that are purely personal in nature, not relating to what I feel is the intent of the forum and certainly having nothing to do with the overall context of the group as a whole, in many cases not even relevant to the immediate thread. I find that distracting, discouraging and disappointing.

Appreciate your question and, always, your input to the overall well-being of the forum.

Then it got into how we did this to the landscape.... and how we were so bad to the sea .. and how we destroyed the turtle swim to verde bay. all I know is I love this place and want to share it with my friends and family, and throw out a couple tips to my fellow baja travelers. The rest of you are destroying a good thing.

He is not DENNIS.

Perhaps it's time to change the subject to something with a little less friction. Turtle soup. Yes...let's talk turtle soup and throw in some words about regional snake transfers to other regional grounds to see what sort of weird science it produces.

Hook - 11-27-2011 at 09:36 AM

I just dont get this aversion to the ebb and flow of a board.

It's similar to an open conversation at a party or an open discussion in a classroom. You hear varying opinions, you see prejudices, you agree or disagree, you join in or you dont.

Yeah, I guess you can leave the party or walk out of the classroom. But that's at one's loss to the continual learning curve that is life. You learn about issues and you learn about people. And you still have to provide your own filter to all this. But why shut it all out?

It's a board, fer chrissakes. Take from it what you will and discard the rest. Dont take differing opinions so personally.

I think it a little hypocritical for persons to complain about the board being taken over by newbies and their issues, while continuing to dispense antiquated information about Mexico that applied when they were last here; 5-10 years ago.

This applies more to subsequent naysaying posters that to the original one.

There IS good information contained in some of the muckraking newbie posts.

There is very little, IMO, in the latter. I sometimes feel like I am reading placards in a museum.

And Jesse is innocent of this??

He's been on an anti-American kick for the last year or so. He often gets personal.

Is it THAT shocking that he would be challenged by some, on an English speaking board mostly populated by Americans??

What goes around, comes around.................

Instead he's chosen to get out of the kitchen, I guess.:light:

He started 'cooking' over on Ron's forums it seems... I agree with you Hook... He had never had a problem with posting his feelings about anyone. True, but he had a huge problem with others posting their feelings. And Muñoz is no angel, but Jesse forgot to mention that Muñoz was in direct competition in real estate down there with Jesse's financial backers in Las Tres Putones, Geoffrey Lujan Pruitt and his family. Jesse also forgot to mention that the financial backers of his failed restaurant in Tijuana, La Hacienda de Tijuana, just happen to be on the Foreign Narcotic Kingpin Designation Act list of banned persons as drug money launderers. Jesse's unsavory history with Aldo Salato, another BajaNomad, is well documented.

Remember David, in Mexico nothing is ever as it appears to be. You are really way out of your depth to comprehend what is really going on down there.

Hook - 11-27-2011 at 11:41 AM

Now, Barry..........

My point is that there will always be newbies that challenge the traditional bent of the board. But I still want to see their info. It's valuable; whatever their motivations for posting it. And current info is even more valuable.

I still enjoying reading the reminiscing and the way things were. Sometimes things still are that way.

But when we talk about some things like fishing and places to stay and dealing with cops in Mexico, it's changed.

I really like the light-handedness that Doug uses on the board. More info is good. Let the individual decide what they want to do with the info.

Starting to sound like a silly college philosophy prof.....

Well, you are not helping any of us wishing him to not give up posting here... Maybe Jesse moved to La Paz to get away from the issues in Tijuana. I sure didn't see any "well documented" issues between Jesse and the late Aldo... but I don't look for the bad in people... they generally expose their negativity without any special effort!

THE ANSWER

joerover - 11-27-2011 at 12:42 PM

THE ANSWER
create an over 18 forum with unlimited posting.
have a 2 post per day limit on the regular board.

The two basic posters types are not compatible!

-people seeking information about Baja.

-people who mega post all day.

The mega posters will soon abandon the rated G area for the rated R over 18 grumpy pill eating mega poster area.

The educated sober people seeking intelligent on topic well informed conversation will be happy exchanging information on Baja.

Note to mega poster: the bulk of the people spend between 30 and 60 minutes looking at the Internet each day. These people don't want to sift through useless bar room jokes and burp fart posts.

Example: people asking about low crime areas in baja do not want to read inebriated posts about Antarctica.

A mirror image of some of the most popular message boards with unlimited posting would keep the mega posters happy.
A post limit would keep friendly people happy.

http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=56500#pid6733...
This is the only mega poster I am aware of who provides useful information. A small number of people will earn an exemption from the post limit. A very small number.

If no changes are made the only means of communication between English speaking baja residence will continue its downward spiral and ....
