Body dumped near Punta Banda

J.P. - 12-4-2011 at 04:32 PM

While we were out of town Thanksgiving a body was dumped almost on our doorstep I inqured of the Punta Banda Buliten Board about the Incident and was told they would not post about it. I guess their policy has changer to posting only the Good Stuff Looks like the Public would have a right to hear all the news good or bad.

I heard that the guy was believed dead by his kidnappers but he was alive.

The part that bothers me most is there is a faction here that is bent on painting things with too wide a brush. what ever their motives are. we are adults tell us like it really is

http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/22/poli...

For not having any money when he was assaulted, three subjects beat a resident of Maneadero until he was dead. But that was not enough, so they tossed his limp body into a ravine on the road to La Bufadora. The body was found hours later and the three were immediately arrested and they confessed.

This was all discovered when one of the brothers of the deceased saw a tow truck pulling the pick up of his brother, and since he was missing since Monday, he reported this to the police, who stopped the tow truck. In the tow truck were a Gabriel N, 15-years old, Erasmo and Kevin Reyes Sepulveda, 28 and 18 years old. Upon being interviewed separately, they confessed to having killed Diego Mata Moreno in order to steal money from him.

It was an innocent person. He told his "friends"he had 10,000 pesos, so they killed him for it.

Within the GrinGo community is it all about property values and keeping of the baja 30 years ago alive?

Seems nothing is too far from sacrifice

What a shame to hide the truth and foster the illusion at an extreme cost to the naive.

Talking about you? I must have missed that part. Why would anyone want to talk about you when there's brutal crime and death to discuss?
I knew about the story before the paper brought it out by talking with one of the firemen who was on the scene. So...you and Google Translate were getting predigested news. That's a poor recommendation for one who consideres herself the pillar of local news dissemination.

Being as you brought it up I knew the answers to the Questoin I ask about I know others didnt. my question to you was and still is why did you choose to censor the incident.

[Edited on 12-5-2011 by J.P.]

bajamigo - 12-5-2011 at 01:16 PM

Easy. We didn't have all the facts. The story appeared in el Mexicano and el Vigia the next day. If you want to keep absolutely current on every crime in this area, link to them. Your browser probably has a translator in case you can't read Spanish.

Where information isn't generally available, such as the numerous break-ins and personal assaults that are currently plaguing Punta Banda, all posts are published. Go to "messages" on the BB, type in a topic, and hit search. It's all there, just requires a little effort.

We may disagree about the what gets posted on the BB, but we don't have the time, bandwidth or inclination to try and please nearly 1000 members. But that ain't censorship.

Crime is everywhere. People get mugged and killed in affluent neighborhoods all over the US.

Of course, ther are some folks who will complain that I'm whitewashing Baja. But..

On some level, I just have to wonder if posting something such as this on this forum doesn't actually do a disservice to Baja in general.

Take off the Rose Colored Glasses it has to be posted somewhere. It definately would be a dissiservice to sweep it under the rug as it was done in this case.

At the risk of repeating myself, this story appeared in all the local media. The bulletin board isn't run by Jimmy Olson; it's a mechanism for getting information out to the local community that is not available anywhere else (and even then we can't do it all).

Seems to me it was "posted somewhere." Use of the translator function in your browser or learning the language of the country you reside in might alleviate your concern that bad news is being swept under the rug.

You might also want to explore other bulletin boards and forums that are not constrained by a community orientation, e.g., one operated by a member of this bulletin board who does a very thorough job of reporting criminal activities throughout Baja and Mexico.

As I previously stated I knew about the incedent upon arrival home. I also stated There are people in this community that dont have a clue When it comes to Reading or speaking Spanish That depend on YOUR buliten board for current events. It is those I worry about. Maybee if it wasn't such a control issue you could share the duty of the board to a trusted servant. all in all you guys do a pretty good job.

Dennis, you have quite an imagination...ah brings me to the days when I watched the Superman series with George Reeves..I knew the introduction word by word at all of 5 years old maybe younger...and Jimmy Olson the cub reporter did nothing of the kind...I never once saw Lois Lane and Superman kiss much less go to a hotel...they all seemed very moral, Clark alter ego Superman, was always very respectful to Lois...don't ruin my memories, please...

OK please....a few months back...a guy came into the local clinic in Maneadero with his head smashed in...I was an eye witness who treated the guy who sent this story to the PBBB, the guy lived in Rancho Packard, and my story was completely censored because the moderator told me he didn't want it coming from me, he wanted the victim to report it...of course I wouldn't use the patient's name, but it had just happened and I felt the community should know about it, I have found several things I have sent to the PBBB that would be the least bit controversial would be censored...so NO, its not Fox Network, fair and balanced....its PBBB, NICE and balanced....ah yeah, even if the victims die, I guess it wouldn't be reported there, because THEY didn't report it..

Jimmy Olsen's Blues hijack

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re7oTQnih-0

Well, I don't think I can handle this
A cloudy day in Metropolis
I think I'll talk to my analyst
I got it so bad for this little journalist
It drives me up the wall and through the roof
Lois and Clark in a telephone booth
I think I'm going out of my brain
I got it so bad for little miss Lois Lane

Lois Lane please put me in your plan
Yeah, Lois Lane you don't need no Super Man
Come on downtown and stay with me tonight
I got a pocket full of kryptonite

He's Leaping buildings in a single bound
I'm reading Shakespeare at my place downtown
Come on downtown and make love to me
I'm Jimmy Olsen not a titan, you see
He's faster than a bullet, stronger than a train
He's the one who got lucky got his cape around miss Lois Lane
I can't believe my dilemma is real
I'm competing with the man of steel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He's on the story

Whatever happened to a patient's right to privacy? We don't post whispers down the lane. And besides, your post was, as it turned out, mostly inaccurate about the events leading up to that incident. Sorry you seem to have such a disparaging attitude about Punta Banda...should we post that?

lizard lips - 12-7-2011 at 01:40 PM

Settle down folks..... Vince started the PB forum and he has the reins to allow what is posted. What he did with your post Dr. I believe was right. The post should have come from the victim. Why didn't he post it and the circumstances of his beating?

The information you provide on the forum Dr. is very good (priceless) so please don't stop with your insight regarding health issues however what you do and the things you see regarding residents in PB should be kept in confidence unless there is an outbreak of small pox even if you don't use their name.

Doing what I do I would NEVER even consider going on a website with the information I have learned through an investigation. You just have to keep this to yourself or talk with the person about them informing others about a potential problem.

When I arrived in PB there was no electricity so no way of getting the word out. Then we had CB radios and everyone could listen to others conversations unless you said "Go to channel 22" then everyone would go to channel 22 to listen to their "private" conversation. Then came the phone and now the internet. You have to have rules about content of posts and Vince decided that some content should not be allowed. Vince had even not allowed some of my posts and I know why. I often get off on a tangent when some people are so stupid and my replies are short and to the point with unchristian like responses.

We just have to deal with it for what it is and be thankful we have the forum and Vince to handle it. If you want to post things that are not allowed on this site then start your own. I will visit, often.

Because he had his head beaten soft and the professional opinion at the moment said he should be evacuated to the states immediatly. He was, and his recovery, if there was one, is unknown.

What the PBBB did, actually didn't do, with Janene's post was self serving to a lie in order to protect a tranquil image of Punta Banda and Baja. They chose silence over disclosure.

Furthermore, the good Doctora has been maligned on the PBBB in the past for having an opinion sometimes contrary to the usual brain dead attitude of the local expat rank and file of the board, that Mexico healthcare is perfect, and she has been attacked on the board with full approval of Vince and his wife.
It got to the point that it was appropriate to trash her on the board when all she wanted to do was give assistance and this attitude was even evident after her gracious work for Ron and Chris.
These attacks, by the way, were posted with approval of the administrators. Everything is.
I don't ever want to hear here that she is unqualified in her position as a medical expert. She deserves nothing but gratitude for her pro bono submissions here and on PBBB.

What the PBBB needs is a fresh realization that they are here to serve a full plate of information and not just the dessert.

Doubt this will change anything, but for sure it wouldn't be posted there. They censor me as the devil himself.

I don't follow the posts on PBBB as much as you do Dennis so I will say it looks like I missed something. The doctora is one of the people I read all the time. Her advise and knowledge should be appreciated by all. Hell, she works for a health care system that I don't have a clue about. Now that my son is in medical school here in Ensenada it will be sometime before I will get filled in on all my questions and concerns.

Many of the folks in PB do think you are the devil Dennis so keep the fire HOT :fire: when you post. It's not that you are funny with the things you say it's all in the content and response. I bust a gut with some of your comebacks....

What was it she tried to post that is against rules?

Patient Confidentiality

EnsenadaDr - 12-7-2011 at 06:46 PM

The victim had his head bashed in before, so he didn't want to stay around and give an interview, basically, he wanted to get out of Dodge and head for the border, never to return. Patient confidentiality is revealing identifying personal data of a person, such as name, social security number, etc. However, Mexico does not follow these rules in their institutions to the degree they do in the States. And because I felt that there was a risk of more assaults and home invasions, I felt the public should have been notified, regardless or not if the facts that came directly from the patient were muddled because of bleeding on the brain. Did anyone wait to get Ron Hoff's ok to post what happened? If the moderator on this board decided on that route, none of the help that came pouring in would have happened. So Thank the Lord he did not. Talk about my view of Punta Banda? I'll tell you what it is...it's the breathtaking scenery of the Bay lit up at night with the city of Ensenada sparkling like stars on the water, or driving down into La Bufadora in the painted sunsets that set above the clouds, or the view from Puerto Escondido that is equally as breathtaking. From Baja to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo to Cancun, Mexico is beautiful. The people can be warm and friendly, the education superb. I became fluent in Spanish studying here. Mexico has given me a heck of alot.

The almost Identical crine occured in punta banda a couple months prior the only difference was the victim was a older female gringo and she was very luck to survive with a few bruises. and for days we heard about it .
I would like to point out it was a Mexican assult on a Gringo
the later attack was Mexican on Mexican and in the view of the moderator didnt want to be heard.
the reaction to the assults speak for themselfs
as I previously stated the buliten board does a decent job but if you assume that responsibility you should treat all news the same either post none or post all of it.

Hospital Press Conferences

EnsenadaDr - 12-7-2011 at 07:55 PM

When I was a Hospital Supervisor in Hawaii, we had a press department that handled all inquiries from newspapers. Hospitals gave updates on patients that were of public interest, including their names, ages, and general health status. This is not prohibited nor against the law.

Patient Rights

EnsenadaDr - 12-8-2011 at 08:15 AM

Anyone as a patient can request that no information be given out. In the case of the patient in Maneadero, he did not specifically request that and in fact welcomed the sharing of his information (he had given a full report to the Mexican Police) and asked me to call his family and the American Consulate so he could get the money to be transported to the States as quickly as possible. There have been patients in the hospital who request that the wife and the mistress have separate visiting times, and as patient advocates, we must comply as much as possible with patient wishes (obviously not telling the wife that the mistress is coming up a certain hour and to not show up at that time!!) and when sharing of information is critical between physicians and medical personnel for treatment of the patient and for payment/insurance purposes (also for HIV tests, they only put numbers on them and not names in the US, not, however in Mexico.)

The only posts that are excised are those that are irrelevant or offensive. In this particular instance, after we spoke with the landlord and "the patient," we learned that this particular episode was a repeat of a drunken brawl among "friends." And once the good practitioner learns the right address to send her messages to and/or posts her own unghostwritten material, we'll probably see more of her wisdom on the board. Even with that, one could argue that she's had considerable exposure on the board already.

??? The following message was allowed to be posted on the PBBB on Oct 30th:
Subject: Punta Banda Bulletin Board Punta Estero History ... 11 years

Eleven years ago a huge event took place here. Much is still available on the web, some with odd spins on the facts, and a few that are more realistic.
http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id...

The link reports how Jorge Cortina , and others, evicted people from their homes 11 years ago.
I attempted to post the following resonse that they apparently felt was offensive to one of their constant advertiserers and thereby rejected:

"This is the same Jorge Cortina del Valle that now operates the La Marina restaurant where Mission Pizza used to be and rented from him.":?::?::?:
