Wrecked my truck, need a ride North from San Quintin

bmw_721 - 5-7-2012 at 10:17 PM

Hello, had a very unfortunate incident this morning which has left me vehiclesless in San Quintin. I would just hop on a bus, but I also have my dog with me and of course my belongings in my truck as well (camping and surf equipment). I either need a ride for my dog and myself, and return for my gear, hoping it's still there, or take it all with me. I am from Canada, and either way will be needing to acquire a vehicle to return home with.

tiotomasbcs - 5-8-2012 at 06:46 AM

Hang tight amigo! Glad you're not injured and your dog, too. Some Nomads live in San Quintin and may be able to help. Baja Gringo? Post on TalkBaja. Sanquintinsince 1973?? Be patient as your distress call gets read. Tranquilo. Good luck. Tio

Was that with or without your drivers license? http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=59855

sorry for your misfortune

DENNIS - 5-8-2012 at 07:08 AM

Can you explain the damage to your vehicle?

shari - 5-8-2012 at 07:33 AM

sorry about your misfortune...might have a ride for you...check your U2U box up in the right hand corner by the log in.

bmw_721 - 5-8-2012 at 07:40 AM

Ok, posted on bajatalk as well, also came to my attention probably not the best idea to leave my gear in the truck while I head to US, so if anyone was able to offer a secure storage place that would also be great! I didn't have my drivers liscence sith me rts, but I have a copy of it, and have already dealt with police and insurance and didnt seam to be a problem, its still waiting at the border for me.
DENNIS, my truck rolled over and the front end and box are both quite squished. That may have not been the biggest problem, but the frame also has a crease in it just behind the passengers rear control arm. Thanks for the help everyone!

Amigo, where are you holed up? Cell phone. I'd call Irene in nearby Colonia Vicente Guerrero at Posada Don Diego. Good call Larry as she has always extended her knowledge of the area and has rooms and restaurant! Bump. Tio

And BajaGringo has him squared away - with a place to store the gear, watch the dog, and a place to spend the night before taking a bus ride north in the morning.

Thank you BG!

Mil Garcias, BG and BN.....

gnukid - 5-8-2012 at 08:07 PM

Great news! So simple with a little help. Let's hear how it went on the bus to help the next crew in need! Nothing's easy!

woody with a view - 5-8-2012 at 08:14 PM

so the frame is squished? walk away and relish every breath until you are 107 years old! i mean, what do you hope to salvage from it? just go home and kiss your life "hello!"

edit: i mean, you did have FULL insurance, right?:light:

I spent $2300.00 on a rebuilt (not new) transmission and 3 years later, I had to sell the pickup for $2500.00 Had I left the thing in Baja, and bought a Jeep then, I would have been so far ahead.

Recovery in Parque Sierra San Pedro Martir in Aug. 2001.

We got Brad all squared away, Unfortunately his truck is wrecked but we are working on finding a buyer for it as the engine is almost new and it has some salvage value. It is a Toyota pickup so there should be some interest down here. All his gear is safely stored out at our place and Brad left this morning by bus heading north to secure another vehicle to return for his stuff and Zac, who will be spending the rest of his Mexican vacation with us...

DENNIS - 5-9-2012 at 02:11 PM

Good for you, Ron. Always there as needed.

BajaBlanca - 5-9-2012 at 02:51 PM

and Ron saves the day !!! Good on you. what a GORGEOUS doggie .... great that this came together pretty quickly all things considered....

good question - FULL INSURANCE, right ????????????

tiotomasbcs - 5-9-2012 at 02:53 PM

Wonderful news. Good to know there are helpful Nomads who will help out when needed. This includes the whole Peninsula, I believe, verdadad?! Count me in. Tio

Jack Swords - 5-9-2012 at 02:56 PM

Whatta guy Ron! Thanks from all of us who couldn't be there to help.

DianaT - 5-9-2012 at 02:58 PM

Sounds great and what a pretty fur baby -- hope he is getting on well with Ron's puppies and kitties!

I also hope Brad had some insurance to help out??? But the best thing is that Brad and Zac were not injured and then they were fortunate enough to connect with Ron.

Mexitron - 5-9-2012 at 03:26 PM

Nice going Ron!

BeemerDan - 5-10-2012 at 09:23 AM

Wow, Thats great, Its so good to know help is available so far away from home, Cool name for a dog, My Chessie is named Zak too.

BajaGringo - 5-10-2012 at 11:41 AM

Brad only had liability insurance on his truck although they will cover the cost of his tow bill to San Quintin. Even with the loss of his truck, I'd say he is pretty lucky. We are glad to be able to help and really enjoying the company of Zac - he's a great dog...

rts551 - 5-10-2012 at 11:51 AM

Good job Ron. Glad to see you went out of your way to help.

Debra - 5-11-2012 at 12:00 AM

Zac looks so sad, is he watching his "dad" drive away?

Nomads/Amigos are the best, this from someone that was stranded with a 5yr. old G-daughter and 10yr. old son years ago, I couldn't believe how many total strangers came to our aid. Our trip was not ruined, and we made many lifetime friends with that breakdown, some of whom have since passed away. Never doubt the power and love of Baja people!

bmw_721 - 5-15-2012 at 01:51 PM

Hello everyone, just an update, back down with a new vehicle, have my gear and my dog, so everything worked out well. Just wanted to thank everyone for their help and advice, especially Ron and his wife. Wonderful people, and I'm very glad I was able to meet them.
And Blanca, to finally answer your question, no only liability, it was an older Toyota, and the mexi insurance company only offered me liability, ya win some, ya lose some...

tiotomasbcs - 5-15-2012 at 04:55 PM

Hey, Brother. Come on down and continue your trip. I've got a place for you to stay in a beautiful part of BCS. If you are able to keep on with your trip I'm sure you would be thrilled to meet more Nomads. Glad things are back in order. Sale. Tio

great story for the campfire, i'm sure!

Garner - 11-30-2012 at 01:24 PM

Absolutly impressed with this site and thread. I have registered because of this thread and am a FNG to the site, but I will keep my eye out if anyone needs help in the future. Stoked on Brad and Zac being okay and finding the help they needed so quickly.

David K - 11-30-2012 at 02:03 PM

welcome!

vgabndo - 11-30-2012 at 04:09 PM

Garner, thanks for your comment and welcome aboard. It reminds me that Nomads, with all their differences, seem to be a breed of people poised to be of assistance. THE LIST, to be found elsewhere on this forum, is clear indication of the levels of hyper-preparation adopted by some. Being prepared and knowing how to rescue oneself easily translates into an opportunity to assist another.

With conscious thought, for years I have carried a spark plug tester, and a big assortment of glass fuses in my kit, even though my diesel uses neither.

The shadow, I judge, is the macho thing about being top dog for being able to lay hands on the critical (fill in the blank) which facilitates the 'rescue' when someone is stranded and fearful.

I don't think it came as any surprise to Ron's friends and cyber-friends that he modeled compassionate generosity.

Hook - 11-30-2012 at 06:43 PM

Glad it all worked out. His post started out sounding like an email I got from Ghana, recently. I am glad this was resolved; the guy from Ghana is still waiting for some money from me.
