Say It Isn't So, Mc Donalds Coming to San Felipe

sancho - 7-25-2012 at 11:14 AM

I can handle the new Calimax, although I'll still shop
at Vaquita Mkt, but not a Mc Donalds
http://sanfelipe.com.mx/

mexicoliving - 7-25-2012 at 11:27 AM

That is horrible! There goes the neighborhood (and our fishing village).

DENNIS - 7-25-2012 at 11:38 AM

Will all those who can honestly say they haven't enjoyed a McDonalds product.....please raise their hand.

WOW.... That was a quick count....a grande cero.

Just look at it as a boost in employment and at least one place that will put out trash cans. That'll put a smile on your Happy-Meal.

cabobaja - 7-25-2012 at 12:20 PM

Sorry, I like my BigMac fix every once in awhile.

McFishTacos?

mcfez - 7-25-2012 at 01:21 PM

Thought you were joking! Interesting to see this development......as the town is really in some economic tough times.

Just got a clothing store that opened up July 20th called Sensacion, across from big boys. Also a new Calimax market being built. So why not a McDonalds?

vacaenbaja - 7-25-2012 at 03:14 PM

Ah yes! Sin has come to Eden...

Hook - 7-25-2012 at 04:54 PM

I'll bet you'd be leading the parade through town, Sancho, if it was an In-N-Out.

Yeah, McDonalds aint my favorite.

mexicoliving - 7-25-2012 at 05:10 PM

Won't be long and the Baja we all love, will be gone. The beauty of loving an occasional Big Mac, is occasionally going to the states to get it. As for trash cans, Martin Romo at Rosita's restaurant does a good job of putting out plenty of trash cans.

One no vote here

thebajarunner - 7-25-2012 at 05:48 PM

Sorry, I don't do MickeyD, except to stop along the highway when I need to drain my radiator after too much coffee....

Ah, but it is a great free frequent pit stop for that purpose.

But then, in Baja, all the world is your pit stop...:lol::lol:

nbacc - 7-25-2012 at 06:36 PM

Kind of sorry to hear all that...............it will ruin the neighborhood. I like the fact that San Felipe still feels small. A theater........hummmm.

And FREE WiFi at every McDonalds !

willardguy - 7-25-2012 at 06:48 PM

yup! it'll destroy that quaint little sleepy fishing village. they should ditch those hideous pemex stations too!:(

bajadogs - 7-25-2012 at 09:38 PM

I ain't driving to SF for Clown Food. I'll still go to SF but it won't be for Clown Food. Tecate has a Micky D's right across from my favorite (Los Amigos) taco shop and it hasn't ruined Tecate. I will give them credit... It's a place to pee. That is all.

CortezBlue - 7-25-2012 at 09:55 PM

I have a friend who owns a home in Playa De Oro, up next to the fence that is to the north of the development. When I first saw it, I joked, and told him that the new San Felipe Walmart is being built their. Maybe I'm not to far off!!!

CortezBlue - 7-25-2012 at 09:58 PM

I think that San Felipe is going to grow once the road to Hwy 1 is opened up. I think it will grow in population and with new services. I think that SF will feed Gonzoga Bay residents. I think SF will be a jumping off point for folks to travel to the south for fishing , diving etc.

karmatourer - 7-25-2012 at 11:38 PM

Excellent! The best McDonalds I ever ate at was when I lived in Thailand. So hopefully this new location will be equally good.

[Edited on 7-26-2012 by karmatourer]

It should be interesting

MrBillM - 7-26-2012 at 11:28 AM

Back when AM/PM came to town it was GREAT, including those Cheap (but good) All-Beef Hot Dogs. It became my first stop in town coming from the South and one of the last leaving Northbound.

And then --------- it all started to come unglued. The final straw was the Hot Dogs. The last time I bought one and bit into it I noticed an ODD taste. Unwrapped the foil and found a GREEN-spotted Bun. Unwrapped the second one and found the same.

Looking forward to finding out what the Quarter-Pounders are like.

And the Fries.

Often when I stop at KFC or the like, I go over to MickeyD's for the Fries.

IF only the Mex outlet would go back to LARD. Or, even the Beef Bullion.

How many Hindus are likely to buy a burger in Mex ?

THAT would be Priceless.

Down south they have been saying for years when that road is completed it will take 6hrs. off the trip if you are going to N.E. U.S.
The Gringo crowd has already ruined S.F. maybe a Mickey D's will be a good thing

So I must assume you are a Mexicano?

If your not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem, think about it!!

:!::!::!:

Me............I haven't eaten anything from McD's in decades.......and I don't have any plans to ever change that......I will much prefer to eat local foods from local folks when I visit Baja........

McDs tailors their menu for local tastes. In S.Korea the BigMac consists of a tofu patty covered with kimchee so I think in S.F. they will be using carne asada covered with refried beans.:lol:

Bajajorge - 7-27-2012 at 09:12 AM

I've been hearing rumors of a movie theater in SF for a couple of years. As for Mickey D's I don't think it'll survive, hugh population decrease in summer months. Mickey keeps track of that kind of stuff prior to allowing one of his gourmet establishments to be built. I can do without Mickey,:(
I tried a Mickey Burger once while shopping in Mexicali, not bad, they cooked it to order. Wasn't under the hot lights, previously cooked.:o

OK Anzuelo I'm game, the Parade wll start at the Arches
on Chetumal come down past the Costa Azul Motel
along the Malecon ending at the Bar Miramar.
I never could fathom why Gringos intentionally locate
themselves in Mex away from the US brands that are
so comfortable, familiar, cozy to them. Having to go to
a Mex Panadria instead of a Krispy Kreme, having
to drink that skanky Mex Pacifico beer instead of
Coors? They must be miserable. Why just stay NOB
where such items are at their fingertips. By the way,
what is an In-N-Out?

Ain't that the truth. I loved those hot dogs and the hamburgers too with all the stuff to put on them until it went downhill. I was thinking it was about the time it changed from an AM/PM to a 7 Eleven.

willardguy - 7-27-2012 at 11:11 AM

I dont understand why anyone cares? the mcdonalds will be built next to the new calimax, its not like its going to sit on the malecon. and im pretty sure the mcdonalds corperation isnt catering to the gringo crowd anyway.eat a fish taco everyday of your life and I suppose a big mac starts looking pretty good?:?:

What's next????

bajaguy - 7-27-2012 at 11:15 AM

Maybe a Rubio's or a Baja Fresh????

Rumor has it that itwill be built under the arches going into town and they are going to paint them yellow. Also, I heard, they are going to have a Mac Grande

2 all pork chorizos
Lettuce
Salsa
on a tortilla con queso

acadist - 7-27-2012 at 09:27 PM

Makes me remember the time I brought my Mexican American (from Fontana) cousins to La Paz, complained how bad the food was and the first chance they had went to Burger King. Needless to say they still wonder why I keep forgeting to invite them again.:?:

sancho - 7-28-2012 at 04:28 PM

The employment aspect was not something I had not
thought of. But that aside, I think a MD's would
a visual BLIGHT on the landscape, give me the
things that remain the same, flying grocery plastic bags
pinned to fences, a few potholes, unpaved
streets, I can wait until I get back to Calexico
for a hamburger

I'm just goofing with Hook, if given the choice IN-N-Out
would be my chioce for a burger. I'm an Old, well a bit Old, guy
who may well be a bit selfish in wanting Baja to remain
the same, whatever that is, what's that line, 'remember
the past, just don't live it it'. I assume the Calimax will
put a dent in the 3-4 small mkts in SF, last time I was
in DJ's Mkt San Felipe, there was a mouse running around,
a couple of the teenage employees were trying to catch it,
if that happened here in San Clemente at Ralph's a
Haz Mat team would be called in with Oxygen tanks on
their backs, fumigating the bldg, I like the US stuff
to stay in the US and Mex to have the same Rustic/Caotic
appearance it has always been
