La Ventana in the Fall

barkfrombirch - 7-26-2012 at 02:18 PM

Hi, I'm heading to La Ventana from New England, by way of California for a few weeks prior to border crossing. Looking for a partner in crime or to hook up with a convoy. Single 29 yo gal and big old dog. Adventurous 20/30-somethings? Kiteboarders? Bueller? October-December departure- very flexible

bajajurel - 7-26-2012 at 02:57 PM

What the heck is a yo gal?

BajaBlanca - 7-26-2012 at 03:28 PM

year old = yo

Udo - 7-26-2012 at 03:30 PM

Why La Ventana?

I just drove through there and there is nothing but a small dusty town, a couple of badly designed RV parks,
PLUS a person was just killed there that was staying at the RV park

I think that "yo" means year old. It's either that or a new term for gay.

Either way, welcome to the forum, birch.

La Ventana is all about WIND in the winter. If you don't like wind, don't come, because it is Windy!

If you do like wind, this is a world class kiting/windsurfing location. Those RV parks will be full to overflowing from Nov to April, some with a waiting list to get in.

At this moment I do not recall where the person dying was published, gnukid. All I recall is that I read it in one of the many Baja publications I receive on a daily basis.
I tried a search on Google but got nowhere.
All I recall about the event was that it was the owner of an RV. Don't recall if it was a local or a tourist, but the incident happened sometime in the last 60 days.

My apologies if it looks like I am trying to spread a rumor or bad news. All Nomads know that I am one of the most positive people regarding events in Baja.

Hey Barker

There once was a kitesurfer from Nantuckett,
who asked a question for Nomads to pluck at.

The answers were varied,
tho some seemed harried.

The birchbark girl just rolled her eyes

And said..........

"I can hardly wait to get flying "

thats why I dont get married

This is a very important question: How much do you weigh and what is the color/make of your vehicle? A photo of you sitting in the vehicle would suffice. If you hang around here long enough, you will know why we are asking this.
On edit: by the way, you a natural canoe person?

I think I can answer this one... since I am looking down at that campground on a daily basis. It definitely was not in LaVentana.

A kiter died about 2-3 years ago kiting on a huge wind day is the only death of a gingo in our neck of the woods. I have also in my 12 years never heard of a serious violent crime in LaVentana with a gringo Mexican.

I think LaPaz has had two executions in 13 years that I heard about. TJ gets that an day...

The one that you may be referring was in that time frame, the person (Mexican National) was killed at point blank on the Malicon in LaPaz fast hit and run execution style.. He was presently residing in Los Planes (10 miles from LaVENTANA, why you may have linked LV) It was said he recently moved there from the mainland. (rumored he thought he was getting away from his issues on the mainland)

That was exactly the story I read, Doug.

Thanks for digging for me. I read too many Baja related publications, and when I'm done reading them I throw them back into cyberspace.

from the link, the playa "El Faro Viejo" is down in cabo. I have never heard of it up here. And did not hear of this incident, and generally because they are only 10 miles away we hear of things like this. But as I say and as that person who translated it mentions we have never heard of that beach here, but there is one of that name by cabo.

The english translation brought in LaPaz but that was not in the Spanish article. Los Planes was in article but again never heard of that playa. That area of Los Planes which is known as Pt Arena has full time private security the entire area is gated by the private developers, you can not get there without your plates being written down by security at one or two different locations. There is one other option is they were between Pt Arena and Los Barriles, but to get an RV there is virtually imposable. Only a decent clearance pick up truck or 4WD vehicle or quad would take that road.

so I would guess it is Cabo that the article was talking about.

At least no one was harmed.

we do not have serious crimes in this area because , though we are remote we do have many people around and to get away it is 30 miles as a minimum to blend in. So a report of a crime and there are not many roads to get out of here, 2 paved roads. where in Cabo they blend in and disappear in no time.
