WELL..I am no expert on this but have done LOT of border crossing's...1st...are you south now without passport ??? 2nd or are you north thinking of
going south and not going past ensanada less than 48 hrs...( they really) (now) want more than a CDL at the border>> and just to let the
folks from the rest of the world know....CDL=calif,drivers,lic...aka ..your papers pleeze.K&T

DL's are indeed accepted (driving /walking only).....and no......you wont get banned from Mexico. You may get sent to the secondary as punishment
though :-(

In the last month many of my son's friends have crossed back into Cali w/o a passport, both walking and driving and there's been no problem at all.

You will, however be required to have a US passport if and when you may want a Mex tourist permit.

are you a US citizen? if not, DL is not a valid visa for entry. if yes, DL may be adequate ID to get back in, unless...

I have taken my mother-in-law across several times with just her CA. DL and yes they try to give you a hard time but it is what it is and then you
move on. Have not been sent to Secondary once due to this, remember even to vote in the U.S.A. elections you don't need no stinken I.D., LOL.
Nothing is ever as it seems my friends just the way this crazy world is. We have now put in for her passport but again never sent to Secondary.
Have also talked to so many people coming into Las Gaviotas with just their CA. DL also and none have said they have been sent to Secondary either.

Why take the chance? It's not worth the anxiety, sitting in line wondering how much of a hassle this is going to be, blood pressure climbing as you
get closer.
In days of yore, before 9/11 I travelled quite a bit without a passport. Even to England and Europe. If you're a citizen they can't stop you coming

I have been told that the old country can not deny you entry if you are a US citizen and can prove it. I have heard of people showing just a DL and
some get waved on and some get sent to secondary.

Having a passport or a passport card is great!
I cross almost every day and should get one but have not. No anxiety, no hassles, no problems. FYI there are new big screen monitors in place and they
list the required entry documents, passport, passport card, sentri, etc., and at the end, it reads, birth certificate along with a valid state issued
