desertcpl - 10-17-2012 at 11:16 AM

we want to get to San felipe this coming sunday or monday , which day do you think would be best for traveling south with the road construction and traffic, leaving Yuma, we will come in thru San Luis

dizzyspots - 10-17-2012 at 12:43 PM

make a right turn as soon as you cross the border...jump on Mex (toll road) head west...watch for the San Felipe signs...youll get off ...turn right, make a goofy, quick u-turn...now your on Mex 5 headed south...was there last week...very minimal detours/delays enjoy!

nbacc - 10-17-2012 at 02:58 PM

desertcpl - 10-17-2012 at 03:08 PM

thanks

CortezBlue - 10-17-2012 at 06:48 PM

I don't think it will make much difference, unless, you try to cross after 3 or 4 in the afternoon of a weekday. I have started to call into San Luis Police and asking them how backed up the traffic is. They are always very nice about giving me a traffic report. If it is bad we continue on I8 to either Algodones or Mexicali

San Luis Police 928 341 2420

Also, as of late, we have been crossing at Algodones. The good and the bad

Good, You miss paying a toll and you miss a military stop it is a bit less miles

Bad, you have to drive at pretty slow speeds through some of the little towns.

However, I do think it is shorter to get to Hwy 2

I have never gone that way! I've always trudged along Lopez Mateos. It took a quick ride down it on Google Maps....looks like not many stops at all. Even though it looks to be longer mileage it probably is quicker drive. I will try it out when I head down in December.

Thanks for the route!

mcfez - 10-29-2012 at 03:48 PM

East entrance. Sometimes the entering of Mexico is backed up. I love this way to our SF place.

Beyond Mexicali....the road is just fine. The detours are super graded.......nothing that might knock your dentures out of your mouth. Just back from last week.

Left right on Cazada Abelardo Rogiguiz
Right on Av Republica de Bresil
Left on Manual Gormez Morin
Left on Mex5

desertcpl - 10-30-2012 at 12:12 PM

came back Wednesday, came thru Algodones, got to the border about 2pm, maybe less than a hour wait,

bought some ice cream from one of the vendors, pistachio

1 buck, very good

DENNIS - 10-30-2012 at 12:30 PM

Isn't the Shrimp Festival happening this weekend in or close to it?

Tacodawgtim - 10-30-2012 at 12:32 PM

Your right the shrimp festival is this weekend. I'll miss it but heading down sometime next week.

To San Felipe and South

Tacodawgtim - 10-31-2012 at 06:06 AM

Here is a great map showing a cople of ways through town to head south, I use the route that has you going on the right. Less time driving in town

Hope this helps a few people, I get to head back down next week for 2 weeks. Yahoo.
Baja 1000, shrimp tacos, desert rides..

I've had dinner there many times .. Normally have a nice ice cold chebella at Miramar and shrimp tacos from Adrianna's next door for lunch. Not much better. Al pastor tacos for dinner. 🌵

Left out of East Gate

Bajajorge - 10-31-2012 at 08:57 AM

I began turning left out of the East crossing a year or so ago when the Mexicali cops were going heavy into phoney traffic stops and big time mordida payments at the beginning of Calzada Gomez Morin when you turned right out of the gate.

I do the left turn through the Industrial area and find there are hardly any cops through there. Traffic is nil when I cross on Sundays. Tons of stop signs though. Also that's a whole bunch cheaper than $200USD mordida payments:O around Gomez Morin.

sancho - 10-31-2012 at 10:51 AM

I was at Chuys for dinner 1 nite, next to us
was a couple musicians in Mariachi outfits,
I assumed at that point we were in the
right place

Map route - coming from San Felipe

John M - 11-1-2012 at 05:26 AM

Tacodawgtim - we tried using your map yesterday coming north and missed turning right at the Pemex (to use the right-most road on the map) - as we didn't know for sure which Pemex to turn at.

As we figured out later, coming from San Felipe, you'll reach the proper Pemex just after you go past the huge Mexicana Logistics complex on the west side of the highway.

Tacodawgtim - 11-1-2012 at 05:53 AM

Hope you didn't get lost. I come in and out that way all the time. Less time going through town, more stop signs but a good route. I can fill up as soon as I get into town coming or going. Pretty simple once you learn it. Hope it helped.
