Good auto A/C mechanic in La Paz

john68 - 11-19-2012 at 06:15 PM

Can you recommend a really good auto A/C mechanic in La Paz?

I have been to one of the large shops repeatedly and still can't get my Suburban A/C to work for more than a few months. Replaced almost everything under the hood and the refrigerant still leaks.

Thanks.

Most AC mecganics shut down in winter since they are not needed. You need a specialist in rebuilding pumps and seals and hoses. The cost should be under $100 and you should stay and watch the work. I have not had good luck in general with AC people, the issue is if it's winter and your asking for AC work-they think you are stupid%$#@!, the guys need to be willing to dig deep to check and relaces hoses. If they are not athletic, attentive willing to work hard and resourceful skip it, it'll be wasted money.

gnukid is correct about shutting down in winter !! and the work itself is rather easy if you have the correct tools and training !! very simple and old tech stuff..finding leaks is sooo easy If you have the right chem and light (blacklight) and the seals on newer units are a no brainer if you have the_____s................................K&T:cool: ................. anyone remember guys taking R12 north and painting white to look like a LP tank ??.. LOL..

Sounds like you need to replace the lines.

We had ours spot-welded repeatedly until they looked like snakes with a bad case of acne,
Every few months they'd pop another leak, and we realized that wasn't doing the job.

We called the dealership (in our case, Toyota of Cabo) ordered the part, paid up front and had it shipped to us when it arrived from the USA. You might also call a USA Suburban dealership direct.

Our regular mechanic in Mulege installed the part. The recharge gas can be obtained in many autoparts stores or from a mini-split installer/house AC repairman.

I have used these people twice on two cars and have never had to return. They were recommended by my mechanic. Very resonable too.
Auto Frio 2000 on Colosio a few yards past the intersection with Toronja across from the Pemex. Driving south this is just past the big aroyo on Colosio. tel: 1214999 cel: 0446121596391

thanks for all of the suggestions.

We have tried all the usual stuff--replaced the compressor, evaporator, etc., black light for leaks. I think the leak may be in the rear unit--this particular Suburban has the auxiliary system to cool the back.

It is still in the mid-80's and fairly humid in Los Barriles, so we need the A/C.

I'm still using mine to cool off. Cloudy and humid todays. A/C also prevents Bobos from landing in your eyes and ears!! Let us know if you're successful, por favor! Good luck. Tio
