You're really getting good at these bird captures.

Thanks Ken.... but.... All I'm doing is filling the feeders, opening the window and shooting. I'm still trying to understand how each mode works on
the P510 and for that I'll need another of your lessons anyway. The dove are so damn aggressive I don't put out feed as often. There are a lot fewer
small birds here than precious years and I miss their antics.

Very cool shots. Are you getting warblers at the feeder as well?Feathers - 1-8-2013 at 06:03 PM
Just beautiful, Russ! Is the stripe-feathered bird a Flicker?

No idea what a flicker is, ut the one pictured is a woodpecker and the little ones show a healthy respect for them, much more so than for orioles.wessongroup - 1-8-2013 at 06:16 PM
Remarkable shots .. guess ya might have to start sending out RSVP's woodpecker

The Northern Flicker, pictured, Colaptes auratus, is indeed in Woodpecker (Picidae) family

Thanks BigOly and others. What's the studious bird third from the bottom. Some kind of thresher?

Thanks for clarifying!
They're common (but beautiful) pests in Idaho, but I've never seen one this far South.
You got me Russ!
BigOly - 1-9-2013 at 10:10 AM
Yes, that is our endemic Gray Thrasher.
And here's a photo of a Gilded Flicker to compare with your Gila Woodpecker. Notice the markings on the front. 24baja - 1-9-2013 at 12:16 PM
I had no idea a Flicker would eat from a hbird feeder...awesome. As usual Russ your photos are amazing. Thanks for sharing them. ConnieBajaSerg - 1-9-2013 at 02:44 PM
Great Photos!

Connie, no big deal or anything but I think you're reading the post wrong. Russ's bird is a Gila Woodpecker. They are often at the feeder. To

Your photos and knowledge are greatly appreciated BigOly.
And Wow, I thought the person typed your name wrong- and if not, WOW! Just because you offered a correction? (that they didn't comprehend anyway?) Is
respect and courtesy out the window around here?Russ - 1-10-2013 at 09:36 AM
I didn't notice the spelling until now. I'm sure it's a mistake. No trolls allowed on my threads.grace59 - 1-24-2013 at 06:44 PM
