Mexican Navy checking something

jadams - 4-19-2013 at 09:57 AM

On tuesday 4/16 fishing partner and I decided to take boat out and fish infront of campo (KM33.5) and as we were launching boat a navy cutter came from south and was going from boat to boat and were checking something. I think it was prangas they were checking but I'n not sure, not having valid fishing licenses decided not to chance it and stayed in. Anyone have any idea whats up?

Maybe they were enforcing the "you need to have a valid fishing license" law.

WTF??????......why would you knowingly break the law?????

desertcpl - 4-19-2013 at 10:22 AM

gee I wonder why,

:lol::lol::lol:

Howard - 4-19-2013 at 10:23 AM

Not to jump on a bandwagon, but would you fish without a licence in the USA?

What would you think if a legal Mexican National fishing in the United Staes was fishing without a fishing licence, would that be OK?

Most rules in Mexico are hard to follow but the fishing licence is black and white.

Let me count the ways. Mota, machine guns, grenades, pressure cookers, crystal meth, illegal abalone or fish, pressure cookers, illegal shrimp or oysters, fishing licenses, stolen outboards, pressure cookers, known criminals, Chechnyans, pressure cookers.

bajadogs - 4-19-2013 at 10:32 AM

I don't care if people are running around with mota but poaching ain't cool.
Not cool at all!

David K - 4-19-2013 at 10:33 AM

Just fyi, this is between San Felipe and Puertecitos. Navy is rare to see in these shallow waters, except by helicopter.

DENNIS - 4-19-2013 at 10:42 AM

Ya gotta learn what level of self-incrimination is tolerable around here because you're mixing with a bunch of saints.

but seriously, they're gettin REAL serious about taking those white sea bass lookalikes and the word on the street is even the military is trained to spot em. just something else to add to list of contraband they will be looking out for.

Duh?

Way way way way way way way way too much OSO NEGRO

Gotcha! Thanks!

As stated in the original post, they were likely checking the pangas. Last Oct pangas were stolen from the beach in Muertos, the engines stripped from them, then the pangas set adrift. The thieves were caught and it was learned they were from Sinaloa. Unfortunately that doesn't help the panguero whose sole means of support was taken from him. The pangueros in Muertos now pull their boats each night and take them home. Then again, just last month, 6 pangas were taken right from the malecon in La Paz. I don't believe the thieves have been caught yet. I am happy to hear the Navy is actively pursuing thieves and poachers.

Lee - 4-19-2013 at 12:10 PM

Wish the Sinaloa crowd would steal pangas out of Punta Lobos -- where the A$$HOLES like to fish by putting out nets then banging on their boats while speeding in circles. I'd help them do it.

"....... not having valid fishing licenses"

Sounds like keyboard ninja warriors are occupying the BN today. The magic word was valid . Sometimes all cannot be perfect.....in this perfect world :-) Did anyone think that perhaps his license expired recently? Getting a license in San Felipe is next to imposable. Maybe he just left his Mexican fishing license at his state side home. Who knows?

The Military uses Clara's (Puertecitos) boat ramp often for official business but mostly for maneuver practices.

Over the yrs., I've attempted to educate some of my
friends who visit Mex, to conduct therselves as they
would do at home, some success some not. A notable
one was a clown who with his buddies would drive in
Mex drinking and throwing empties at roadsigns. For
some reason, Mex brings out the careless/arrogant side in SOME.
I've probably sounded like some preacher trying to
convince them to treat the Country and Mexican Nationals with respect, and try hard hard to obey regs and laws,
that goes a LONG ways, but maturity comes later to some

That's the fee for us gringos. How about the non-resident fee in CA?

Nonresident Sport Fishing $123.38
Required for a nonresident 16 years of age or older to take fish, mollusks, crustaceans, invertebrates, amphibians or reptile in inland or ocean waters. Additional validations and report cards are required for certain species and areas.

A question

When was the last time any who have posted here were ACTUALLY in Baja ?

I have been reading this site for a while now and have noticed that the majority of you live vicariously through the lives of a small group of others.

Those others who actually go to Baja and don't spend their lives on line recounting their experience in Baja years ago

That said getting a fishing license is a good idea. You do not need one if you fish from the beach but you do if you venture out in a boat

This winter, the Marinas in Bahia de los Angeles were stopping boats and/or checking at the ramp for valid boat registration, didn't care about fishing licenses.

Those are DEs, John. Destroyer Escorts....WW2 vintage.
I don't know how many are left here [I thought they sent one to La Paz] , but there used to be at least one more until, around twenty five or thirty years ago when they ran one of them onto the beach up around Salsipuedes where it became a landmark and rusted away to almost nothing.

Tourism was just in it's formative period or they would have turned it into a restaurant.

Welll...I don't see the DEs in there.......perhaps due to their age and limited usefulness.
None the less, my good ol' bud, John who is still living in Ensenada, was a helmsman [ isn't that the guy who steers the ship?] on a DE and he says that's what they are...or were....and he knows.

WE were in Acapulco in 79 during a Mexican Holiday, you would have thought the whole Mexican Navy was there they were firing gun salutes and they had a parade that was awesome.
The thing about the parade that stood out the civil employees were carrying a big banner that said Communist Workers Party and another group was carying Swastika's. It really made me nervous because I wasnt Packing.:lol::lol:
