Vizcaino to Asuncion turnoff POTHOLE part being repaired.

shari - 6-14-2013 at 08:13 AM

A couple days ago we had the extreme displeasure of having to drive to the dentist for Juan's root canal in GN...and we are always in a rather foul mood after zigzaggin trying to dodge craters at 5 miles an hour for nearly an hour....I always say I am DONE driving this road till they fix it...which seemed like it may be never.

But Juan had to go back in to Vizcaino yesterday for a car part and reports that they now have much of the potholed part torn up so it is dirt once again....woo hooo...this most likely means they are finally fixing it!!! I have to back in in a couple days and will take some photos.

Timo1 - 6-14-2013 at 08:15 AM

Was Juan as scared of the dentist this time as when I took him to GN ???

That was a hoot !!!

chuckie - 6-14-2013 at 08:16 AM

Say NOT SO! Whatever will we whine about? Keep us posted, I'll be up to see you soon anyhow, be nice to do it on a good road....

Udo - 6-14-2013 at 08:28 AM

Tell Juan that I had to have a root canal done with the Novocaine injection after they drilled the tooth!
They tried numbing with regular shots, but I was in major pain and they would not work...so they had to drill the center of the tooth, and then inject the tooth nerve from the top in.

I was in so much pain, that I did not care anymore...drill baby, drill.

That's what we love about Shari, she is such an optimist! A little dirt being moved around and she thinks that they will be building a 4 lane highway!

shari - 6-14-2013 at 09:08 AM

Timo...Juan thought he was only going for a filling...but yeah, he really gets his thong in a knot about the dentist...hahahaha

you got me pegged wrong Howard....oh yes I'm definitely a glass half full kind of gal all right...but I love the fact Asuncion is one of those hard to get to kind of places...but also appreciate the need for a decent 2 lane paved road for the good of the villagers (and my car) and businesses here. I feel so sorry for the folks who have to drive that road on a regular basis like the Sabritas, Bimbo and Cooperativa truck drivers.

BajaBlanca - 6-14-2013 at 07:00 PM

That is really good news!

windgrrl - 6-14-2013 at 08:42 PM

I like those potholes. Every one. They made us slow down and take in the beauty in the space beyond the road.

would you please announce the Fiesta/Surf contest dates as soon as they are confirmed?

i'm calling in sick. it'll be an eye problem this time as i just can't see myself missing it!!!:light:

shari - 6-15-2013 at 04:48 PM

sure Woody...they are stoked for you to judge and are waiting from word from sponsors I think for the dates.

tiotomasbcs - 6-15-2013 at 04:56 PM

Woody needs to sit in for Stan! He loved the Fiestas! Includes Bikini Contest? I hope George is attending and others so there could be a Norte contingency. Wildcoast sponsors? If you try to Party with Shari and locals, be ready! To Hell with those potholes. Tio

Bajaboy - 6-15-2013 at 05:45 PM

calmate...we drove it yesterday...they are making a lot of progress....BUT there is a lot of pot holed road to repair. They are working the section closest to Vizcaino. Regardless, we were pleased to see them out there.

after so long dealing with those craters I am ever so pleased they are beginning to fix it. Juan drove it today and talked to the guys and they will be repairing the whole pot hole section...yeah baby.

boe4fun - 6-22-2013 at 10:13 AM

Yippie, hope it's done by August.

woody with a view - 6-22-2013 at 10:14 AM

me too!

aguachico - 6-25-2013 at 08:32 PM

Can I get an update on that project? Heading to Tortugas first week of August. I would like to run in the dark, but that section requires me to drive it in the day light.

I don't blame the engineers, I blame the salt. I don't think it can ever be resolved with taking the salt into account

by August things will be completely different...hell...it may even be paved by then...yes I'm the eternal optimist. They are advancing quickly now and have lots of equipment onsite...so the conditions are radically different every few days....so check in just before you come down....but go slow at night as there are lots of cows on the road from the little ranches around.

shari - 7-21-2013 at 02:17 PM

just a wee update...the crews are hard at work every day and I'd say well over half the pot holes are gone....the parts they are working on are now excellent...graded and new gravel being laid yesterday...I'm so stoked! Our quick run into Vizcaino for the last of the tile for the new suite wasnt so bad after all!

aguachico - 7-21-2013 at 09:06 PM

Thanks for the update Shari. Tomatal, then Pta Falsa.

Udo - 7-22-2013 at 07:59 AM

We can't wait for the repairs to be done!

We'll be back in Asunción the middle of next month, and we are looking forward to a more relaxing drive. No suit cases on the roof this time.

Shari:
We got your label-maker and extra label cartridges at Costco yesterday.

vacaenbaja - 7-22-2013 at 12:42 PM

Shari, how about a fish report? Do you think that the Dorado
will show like they did last year? Or is the water temp nowhere as warm this year? WHat is biting now?

shari - 7-23-2013 at 07:22 AM

the town folk are stoked that the yellowtail showed up over a month earlier than usual probably due to those early hurricanes pushing warm water up earlier too. Halibut are being caught on the beaches and the calico bite is insane with enormous fish....Juan's out on a charter as I type....gorgeous day!

Here are a couple pics from last week

Udo - 7-23-2013 at 04:51 PM

Beautiful pix, Shari!

We'll see you in about 4 weeks!

BajaLuna - 7-23-2013 at 09:01 PM

glad to hear the road is progressing along, thanks for letting us know, Shari!

Nice fish pics too!

MICK - 7-24-2013 at 07:16 AM
