BA Highway getting a face lift

Bajaboy - 6-22-2013 at 04:12 PM

The road is finally getting a much needed face lift. They are actually working on a large stretch of highway, too. Hopefully they do a good job:tumble:

Those baches should have their own Zip Codes.

That's just about how thick the asphalt was on Hwy 1 when I first motorcycled it in 1974. Broke up and potholed very quickly.

Hey! Do you have the GPS coordinates for that child swallowing pothole? I want to put it in the system so I can just swerve right around it and make it in for sunset happy hour!

Thats the only one , right?

Just got back from a trip to Vizcaino for building materials and lots of equipment working on the road making fast progress. The sideroad we had to take at times was pretty sandy. They say they will have the whole nasty thing repaired soon. Most of it is gravel now and only short parts of potholes and having the new pavement in sight makes the trip alot less...mad!

acadist - 6-22-2013 at 05:29 PM

Amen!

woody with a view - 6-22-2013 at 05:32 PM

SOON! like when my subcontractors say, "it'll be done Tuesday!" i always ask, "WHICH Tuesday?":fire:

RenoJoe - 6-22-2013 at 10:00 PM

I will be leaving Asuncion Thursday for Reno for a short period. I will bring my shovel with me to make new pot holes, to keep the BAD guys out till I return.

DianaT - 6-23-2013 at 10:13 AM

The massive repair is a very good thing --- finally! And it should last at least a few years.

BajaBlanca - 6-23-2013 at 10:26 AM

Joe - that is funny!

Happy hour planning is in full effect....heading back to Vizcaino tomorrow to buy more building supplies...I'll fill in a few pot holes if I think about it....

aguachico - 6-26-2013 at 04:53 AM

Can someone send that road crew to the two transition strips entering and exiting the new road in Vizcaino?

WTF is up with that?

Bajaboy - 7-2-2013 at 04:34 PM

Drove the road again today....it's really bad now...all the gravel trucks are pounding the remaining pavement...so let's hope they repave it all or it will be a wash:wow:

rts551 - 7-3-2013 at 07:25 AM

hey what happened to the "bad roads keep bad people out" heros? Yhey used to be all over this forum.

Just kidding, glad to see the Asuncion and Bahia Tortugas folks (we forget about them sometimes) get their road fixed and the trip will be much more pleasant and trouble free.

And therein lies the problem. Fast is not necessarily good, when it comes to roads.

I am not giving you a hard time, Shari. You are only reporting what you see.

But it is truly impressive how long they spend on getting the subsurface of the pavement in good condition over here on 15 and 15D. THAT'S the key.

And the new sections of 15 are coming with something unheard of in Mexico; ACTUAL EMERGENCY PARKING LANES AND SHOULDERS!!!

Good grief, is this really Mexico?

shari - 7-3-2013 at 11:54 AM

the fast progress I referred to was the chewing up of the old potholed "pavement"...I guess this is the dark before the dawn! I dont care how bad it is right now...the fact that they are working hard on it means it will be lovely soon...I heard 2-3 months.

elgatoloco - 7-3-2013 at 09:40 PM

We had the distinct pleasure of checking out the road construction ourselves and it does appear that they are spending considerable time and effort to make sure the road subsurface on the sections they are currently redoing is done right.

The parts of the road that are potholed are as bad as advertised. The parts that are nice are very nice. Yin and yang. Jekyll and Hyde. 60 or 6.

aguachico - 7-11-2013 at 02:41 PM

Any news on this. I got three weeks until I'm heading to the best Yellowtail fishing on the east pacific!!
