RIP Curtis Ziegler

Bajaboy - 10-18-2013 at 09:39 PM

Still in shock...we waited and waited for Curtis and his wife to show up for our dinner date tonight.
I got home and checked Facebook to find out he died unexpectedly Thursday night. Not sure what time but he and I chatted about 8pm.

You will be missed my friend....

WTF? he just asked me to take a crankcase to his buddy in Vizcaino the other day.

I'll get a wave in his memory next time down that dusty road......

RIP, Bro!:saint:

Pacifico - 10-19-2013 at 06:55 AM

Unbelievable..... So sad to read this! Curt and I fished together in Baja several times. My condolences to Aimee and the kids. Heading south right now, I'll toast him a Pacifico at one of his favorite places later today....

Hook - 10-19-2013 at 06:58 AM

Was he a Nomad?

Yes. Jeeezo....he just posted here last Wednesday. What a shock.

RIP....Curt.

rts551 - 10-19-2013 at 07:27 AM

This is real shock. Many times Curt stayed with me in Abreojos. We would fish and ride quads. We would talk of Escondido where my father grew up and how it has changed, ohhh Curt. RIP. You were way too young for this.

elgatoloco - 10-19-2013 at 07:43 AM

That is sad news. Too young. Condolences to family and friends. RIP Curt.

shari - 10-19-2013 at 07:52 AM

it is with a heavy heart we bid amigo Curt adios this morning. He was a hero to his kids and good friend to many in these parts....may you fish with the angels now Curt. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends for their loss of a great man.

My condolences to all this family, friends and acquaintances.

woody with a view - 10-19-2013 at 08:07 AM

the only time i ever met Curt, Bia and i were headed to Baja and we stopped in at my local gas station at around 4:30am to air up the tires on the pop up trailer. a white tundra was fueling up and had boards and a quad in back. i did a double take and walked over and started laughing out loud. i said, "you must be Curt!"

of all the out of the way places to run into him. i'd only seen his pics on Nomad so it was so random. another 2 minutes and who knows?

DianaT - 10-19-2013 at 08:18 AM

Wow, a real shock and he was so young! Our hearts go out to his family.

BajaBlanca - 10-19-2013 at 08:21 AM

I was stunned and saddened to hear this news yesterday. Curt and I have known each other since junior high, and were coworkers for the Escondido Union High School District. We've shared many Baja stories together. I had just heard from Curt the other day, and saw him on Tuesday night at a school board meeting. I was dumfounded to hear of his untimely death. Life is precious... hug the ones you love. I will miss you Curt.

Sorry for your loss of a good friend, Andy. We'll never know your pain.

woody with a view - 10-19-2013 at 03:53 PM

Andy, it's been almost 10 years since we met "out there!" and I can't wait for the next time out paths cross.

Curt will enjoy many waves and cervezas if I have anything to say about it!!!!

All you guys who care, every time you go "out there!" you should call out "This one is for Curt!!!!" before you drop-in to a Macker.

I'll do it for you and I hope you'll do it for me! Kinda like a bond between brothers......

David K - 10-19-2013 at 03:55 PM

BajaGringo also has a thread on his forum about Curt: http://talkbaja.com/showthread.php?t=7608

Ditto. I liked his posts as well. They were always so level headed. He will certainly be missed here.

I had hoped it wasn't him but recent posts reveal that it is. So sad.

I will do it. Next Baja wave (and a few more) I will give respect to Curt, who, like the teacher he was, taught me about a certain area of Baja that I was unfamiliar with. I always hoped to see him in the Oceanside North Jetty Parking Lot, where he would go from time to time. Sorry we never met. Shaking my head in disgust that I never met this great human.

woody with a view - 10-20-2013 at 12:26 PM

Zac, any word on a service? if it's on the weekend i'm there!

Marc - 10-20-2013 at 12:43 PM

Sad to go so young. I too lost a young friend recently.
We were stunned. No way to explain it or figure it out. Just have to accept and move forward.

bajaandy - 10-22-2013 at 06:46 PM

Woody, thanks for the awesome idea to celebrate Curt. You can be sure I'll do it.

As for services: Curtis's memorial service is Saturday Nov. 2nd at 1pm at Emmanuel Faith Church in Escondido.

woody with a view - 10-22-2013 at 07:02 PM

I'm gonna really try to make it!

rts551 - 10-22-2013 at 07:20 PM

I will try and make it as well.

BajaGeoff - 10-23-2013 at 09:26 AM

I only had the chance to meet Curt once, but always enjoyed his posts here and his passion for Baja. RIP amigo....

Bob H - 10-23-2013 at 09:34 AM

Wow.... a shocker. RIP Curt, you will me missed by many!

tiotomasbcs - 10-23-2013 at 12:13 PM

Oh No. Way too young. What a great guy and wonderful Husband and Father! I am reading this for the first time after arriving here in BCS. I talked on the phone with Curt in early October. As always, he was full of energy as we talked about a visit this fall. Like many of you I met Curt down here in Baja on the beaches of Pescadero. Last October he used my van & stayed at my place with his wife. Oh so sad for his family. Can't believe it. May God Bless You, Amigo. Tomas:no::no::no:
