Beach Bob - need help

55steve - 10-25-2013 at 10:27 AM

Not really sure how to go about this but here goes.

This is info from Cameo & Kate:

Kate has been named next of kin since no relatives were located. Bob's body is at UCSD Hillcrest and requires around $800 to do the cremation. They will hold his body for 4 months and then cremate/dispose without notice.

Bob's wish was to be cremated and ashes to be spread at Bahia de Los Angeles.

Anyway, what I need is someone to set up a way to raise the needed $$ to make this happen - I don't do Paypal any longer so I'm useless - I will donate though.

For more info, Cameo said to post his phone number but I don't think that's wise - I will send it via U2U however.

woody with a view - 10-25-2013 at 11:59 AM

yeah, me too!

willardguy - 10-25-2013 at 11:59 AM

there was a question as to rather or not bob was a vet. IF he was the VA will pick up some or all the cost. anyone look into this?

55steve - 10-25-2013 at 12:03 PM

I found out this morning that Bob was only in the military for a short time - less than 6 months so he doesn't qualify for VA benefits.

Heck, I was in the Army for 3 years with one year in Vietnam and I don't qualify...

absinvestor - 10-25-2013 at 12:10 PM

I'm in. I didn't know Bob (and sold my place in Baja) but I can't imagine a better place to have one's ashes spread.

No, not at all - honorably discharged in 1973. Maybe I'm missing something?

VA Requirements

bajaguy - 10-25-2013 at 12:30 PM

Somebody needs to dig up his service records or DD-214

I believe you're wrong about this. I don't know who told you this, but talk with someone a bit higher on the food-chain........and don't take no for an answer. The VA responds to the squeaky wheel.

55steve - 10-25-2013 at 12:43 PM

Thanks for the VA benefits info - looks like I'm entitled to some goodies!

Now back to the task at hand - Someone please setup a Paypal account so we can get Bob cremated!

Not necessarily so, but more info is necessary. Does anyone have his 214? if not, his SS# will ID him with the VA.

Wish I was up there to shake the bushes, but I'm not.

Dennis, Bob was originally taken to the VA Hospital and they could find nothing in their records on him. I'm not sure of his condition at that time but I'm guessing he was coherent and most likely his SSN was looked into.

Cameo & Kate do not do internet so I volunteered to help out - I have only limited info so that's why Cameo told me to give his cell out. If someone wants to reach him I will send his # via U2U.

Thanks, Steve. The VA has a way with denial, so I'm not convinced.
Anyway...my hands are tied.

jimgrms - 10-25-2013 at 03:46 PM

Every vet is eligible for va care , but there is a priority system Service conected disabilitys ane at the top of the list and it works down from there and a lot has to do with your income , But you need to jump through the hoops to get your eligibility

That's awesome! The $$ are going to go to Kate who lives in San Antonio between TJ & Rosarito. She will arrange the cremation with UCSD.

The plan is to have a get-together at BoLA over the holiday time.

DENNIS - 10-25-2013 at 06:38 PM

Sounds good. What now?

woody with a view - 10-26-2013 at 06:19 AM

send donations to me at Paypal. make sure you click "sending to friends or family" as the fees are much less. my account is:

info@MasOlas.com

i'll keep a running total here daily.

BajaRat - 10-26-2013 at 07:28 AM

Thanks folks, and you Woody for going the extra mile

wilderone - 10-26-2013 at 07:41 AM

I think the cremation can be done for a lower price. Would be prudent to check around.

woody with a view - 10-26-2013 at 09:02 AM

in addition to my $50 there is currently:

$100

Woody....seems to be a problem with the address above. I cut 'n pasted it in, but it was rejected.

woody with a view - 10-26-2013 at 10:39 AM

you need to go to www.paypal.com and click on send money. paste info@masolas.com into the recipient box and that should do it.

55steve - 10-26-2013 at 12:24 PM

I want to thank you all for helping with this! I spoke with Cameo this morning and he relayed the info to Kate.

I sent $50 today. Thanks again Woody for setting this up!
