Kind of a Yelp! question: How reliable are making reservations here? We will be going thru on the Sunday of President's day weekend and the couple
I'm with simply will not sleep under a beach palapa and we will be too late to drive into San Felipe so I have to know that reservations made
are reservations honored. I seem to remember that this has been a problem in the past.

we made rez's and the guard at the gate asked if we had them. YMMVDavid K - 1-5-2014 at 11:29 AM

make reservations. I didn't and ended driving to San Felipe for place to stay.David K - 1-5-2014 at 11:34 AM
But, it is worth the effort!

Email to Joaquin is always the best...two months ago I reserved the entire place for last night (Saturday night 1/4) for 26 of us...sent a check for a
deposit and all was great.
Make sure you bring as much printed confirmation with you as you can (ie. receipts, printed e-mail correspondence, etc. ). Typically, the person you
have made the reservation with, is not the person working at the hotel when you arrive. If you have a Spanish speaking traveler in your group it
helps. Especially, if they won't get pushed around. And, if when you arrive, they tell you there are no available rooms, keep the pressure on. They
have miraculously always found rooms. Good Luck.Marc - 1-5-2014 at 01:07 PM
Only 1.5 hrs Gonzaga to SF. Why not leave extra early. I would not count on reservations at Alfonsina's.basautter - 1-5-2014 at 06:25 PM
I have stayed there many times, and never had an issue. Make sure you send a deposit with very clear instructions on what day you are arriving, and
what day you are leaving.willardguy - 1-5-2014 at 06:53 PM
dont forget to kiss antonio's(we got the only hotel in town's) azz.liknbaja127 - 1-5-2014 at 07:17 PM
Seems the later you get there, The bigger the chance you may not get the room. We have been told a few times no rooms, But after a few beers at the
bar, he seems to find one for us. Be patient It is a beautiful place!Santiago - 1-6-2014 at 06:26 PM
DB's instruction were perfecto - got an immediate reply and am sending the check.Patrickcain - 3-15-2014 at 06:17 PM
Do I just email them? I tried the phone number but I had to leave a message. I live in San Diego so I doubt they will call me back on a US phone JZ - 3-15-2014 at 06:31 PM

80 dollars per night now. They must be financing the paving of the road!~Whale-ista - 3-15-2014 at 07:22 PM

Papa Fernandez has very primitive camping a bit north of there...but you are on their land and feel secure. If you want some isolation El Faro again
a bit north is/was deserted for more primitive camping...you may or may not have someone come by for the five dollars a day fee.rts551 - 3-16-2014 at 07:31 AM
Does anyone know if the hotel is still open in Puertecitos. Might be an alternative. We need some hotel competition along this road!Cliffy - 3-16-2014 at 09:13 AM
I'm willing to bet that with the paving something will miraculously happen in the near future! Too much money to be made now.David K - 3-16-2014 at 01:35 PM
There used to be cabins (rooms) for rent at Punta Bufeo Resort (5 miles north of Gonzaga ( Papa Fernandez')... ???brewer - 3-16-2014 at 02:12 PM

My God, I know, how many times do we have to see what Mama Espinosa said in 1973 about bad roads. I don't see how he couldn't get sick of quoting
that.woody with a view - 3-16-2014 at 03:05 PM

There are newcomers here so just because you have seen DK's posts don't mean they have. Like him or not he is a wealth of info for those who have not
been hanging around for years and always willing to help anyone traveling to Baja. This is a public form after all!brewer - 3-16-2014 at 07:57 PM
Often I find DK gives TMI...rts551 - 3-16-2014 at 08:47 PM
And be careful. It can be out of date.David K - 3-16-2014 at 11:13 PM
All info is dated... much of mine is more than a couple years old but still applies in many ways, but I do try and have lots of data so you can get an
idea of what it was like then...
My last summer trip in Baja was to the tip and back, and I did a really full trip report of it... that trip was in July, 2012. Other than meeting the
governor of Baja California and presenting him with our new history book in Tecate, and a 3 day camping trip south of San Felipe, not much travel
south the past year.
It would be really super if instead of faulting me for offering 2-8 year old trip advice, you on the sidelines post your reports. I would rather read
of others having fun in Baja!
I have a library of Baja books, magazines and maps going back over 100 years that I have collected all my life, and the most value they have is to be
shared. I have no desire to be selfish with my treasures.Kgryfon - 3-17-2014 at 04:47 PM

This^^^ and the one about newbies who may not have seen DKs posts. You can always skip it if you've read it before. No need to be snarky and
mean-spirited.rts551 - 2-8-2015 at 07:06 PM
does anyone know if they are still charging $80 per night?basautter - 2-8-2015 at 07:20 PM
I have stayed there many times, and never had an issue with reservations. I always sent a deposit in advance. There is another hotel across the bay
at Punta Final. Not sure how to contact them. The place is very basic (more basic than Alphonsina's), but clean.Justbozo - 2-10-2015 at 08:33 PM
The rate a month ago on a Saturday night was $85.
They want USD payment for everything there.
I sent them an email the day before asking for reservation just for insurance of a room. Got a reply the day after we stayed saying something about 2
weeks...lead time?...length of stay?
There were 4 couples staying that night.
