Reservations at Alfonsina's?

Kind of a Yelp! question: How reliable are making reservations here? We will be going thru on the Sunday of President's day weekend and the couple I'm with simply will not sleep under a beach palapa and we will be too late to drive into San Felipe so I have to know that reservations made are reservations honored. I seem to remember that this has been a problem in the past.
Thanks

Make sure you bring as much printed confirmation with you as you can (ie. receipts, printed e-mail correspondence, etc. ). Typically, the person you have made the reservation with, is not the person working at the hotel when you arrive. If you have a Spanish speaking traveler in your group it helps. Especially, if they won't get pushed around. And, if when you arrive, they tell you there are no available rooms, keep the pressure on. They have miraculously always found rooms. Good Luck.

Only 1.5 hrs Gonzaga to SF. Why not leave extra early. I would not count on reservations at Alfonsina's.

I have stayed there many times, and never had an issue. Make sure you send a deposit with very clear instructions on what day you are arriving, and what day you are leaving.

Seems the later you get there, The bigger the chance you may not get the room. We have been told a few times no rooms, But after a few beers at the bar, he seems to find one for us. Be patient It is a beautiful place!

Papa Fernandez has very primitive camping a bit north of there...but you are on their land and feel secure. If you want some isolation El Faro again a bit north is/was deserted for more primitive camping...you may or may not have someone come by for the five dollars a day fee.

Does anyone know if the hotel is still open in Puertecitos. Might be an alternative. We need some hotel competition along this road!
