How much do fresh shrimp cost in various areas of Baja?alacran - 3-1-2014 at 01:50 PM
about 180 a kilo, in Mulege.vandenberg - 3-1-2014 at 01:52 PM
Around $7.00 a pound here in Loreto. For mediums.tiotomasbcs - 3-1-2014 at 02:13 PM
The shrimp yields are way down and prices up! Mediums down here around $250 w/ large blues higher per kilo. Our favorite Fish Taco ladies are now
charging $25 pesos for shrimp tacos. Ouch! Very few shrimp boat seiners seen over here on the Pacific this winter; fewer than normal. TioTLBaja79 - 3-1-2014 at 02:18 PM
Is there a Fish Market in Loreto? Selling fresh fish, shrimp, clams, etc...
If so where?
Is it generally good? Fresh?basautter - 3-1-2014 at 02:45 PM
Make sure they drain the water out of the bag they come in. That seems to be one of their favorite tricks to optimize profit.DENNIS - 3-1-2014 at 02:50 PM

At Don Ramon's, in Bahia Asunción, they are charging 15 pesos each taco, which includes about 4 shrimps, depending on size.
Don Ramon's is only open limited hours on Saturdays and Sundays.Bob H - 3-2-2014 at 10:43 AM

Udo, did you guys get some rain down there from the last storm that is passing through San Diego? It rained hard here for two days!
Also, it looks like BA is the place to be for shrimp tacos!!

I was at the apartment in Tustin, Bob, and don't know if they got any rain.
Shari is at Laguna Ojo De Libre and is generally unavailable for another two weeks.
I'll send an e-mail to one of my friends down there and I'll let you know.weebray - 3-2-2014 at 12:54 PM
Today (2 March, 2014), at the wholesaler on calle Rosales in La Paz, price was 215 pesos/kilo. Size 31/35, Mexican wild caught, head off, shell on.
When I asked if there was a fishing veda (moratorium) he said no, their expensive because you want them and there aren't any. BTW, lobster tails have
dropped in price since last fall - now 490pesos/kilo. Lobster pizza tonight!Lee - 3-2-2014 at 01:03 PM
80 pesos a pound for medium in Todos last week and from the Fish guy who comes around Saturday. Same for baby scallops.Cypress - 3-2-2014 at 01:36 PM

I'm paying $15-$18 per pound here in the SF Bay Area. But the flavor can't compare to the ones I bought at Asuncion last year.
BAJA GREED?
durrelllrobert - 3-3-2014 at 10:34 AM
Over at Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) Sonora I paid 190 pesos per kilo for giant (10-12 / pound) blues. at 13 P/ $US that works out to about $6.65US
per pound and they come out of the same Sea of Cortez as the ones sold in San Felipe.Cypress - 3-3-2014 at 11:39 AM
Are those prices for heads-on or heads-off shrimp? You'll lose about 25%/lb. if you buy shrimp with heads on once they're headed, but the shrimp heads
make great seafood stock. The price I quoted was heads-on.
