Drum roll please....for our first Fishing Report of summer

shari - 7-3-2014 at 10:01 AM

Abalone season is finally over and Juan is now sport fishing again. Our first charter was with Nomad DanD, his wife Jen & little Bella. Within minutes of throwing out the rapala...BAM...they thought it was a big Yellowtail till they got the monster up to the boat and saw to their delight it was a 50lb white sea bass!!!!! Woooo Hoooo...and that fat sucker was insanely delicious grilled for dinner.

They had a great day on the water and also caught the season's first couple yellowtails which we served some as sashimi of course.
Then they pulled in some calicos to complete their limits.

Dan was a happy man..his personal best fish EVER!

sounds good cappy! whats chili oil?

dtbushpilot - 7-3-2014 at 03:01 PM

That's one fine croaker, on my bucket list for sure. Have yet to catch one, maybe this is the year...

Bajaboy - 7-3-2014 at 03:19 PM

I'll take a White Sea bass over yellowtail any day of the week. Yellowtail is over rated to eat but fun to catch.

BajaLuna - 7-3-2014 at 05:22 PM

I agree, I personally don't like yellowtail, but gimme other salt water fish any day and I'm a happy camper!

Pacifico - 7-3-2014 at 06:08 PM

Hola..I guess I should have said "Mongolian fire oil" made by the House of Tang..they call it Flavoring oil....Its not hot at all and is a real asset for my dishes...for the 4th I'm bbqing for about 20 folks and my veggies will be steamed in beer and "Mongolian Fire Oil" simple and great tasting ...try it ..you will love it...and for WSB like most fish should be cut thin so that you don't have to kill it twice (over cooked) just serve it before its done..it WILL finish cooking after removing from heat...just takes a little practice.....Ghost's aka WSB are my fav...nice fish dan !!! K&T

willardguy - 7-3-2014 at 08:15 PM

so cappy, where does one find mongolian fire oil???? no takers on my tennis ball size otoliths (white sea bass stones) I guess....

OOPS ..Willard guy

captkw - 7-3-2014 at 08:23 PM

I don't think you can find it in Baja...(yet) up here in santa cruz ca I have to go to serval stores till I find it....I've learned to stock up on it as its not a big mover/seller....folks see the" FIRE" part and assume its hot.. scares them away..LOL....Ive had 100's of folks ask me what I used and everyone of them was blown away when I show them the bottle.and had them wet their finger tip and lick..ITS NOT HOT !!! good stuff !! PS....I had a nightmare last year and those eyes of yours were in it...

WSB stones

captkw - 7-6-2014 at 12:25 AM

they are in the head in what the guys in the white coats call the "inner ears" about a 1 1/2 back above the eyes.....myself don't look for um....more concerned about DINNER!!!

BajaDanD - 7-6-2014 at 12:36 PM

Yeah me too, I'd rather eat white sea bass then play around with its head

shari - 7-6-2014 at 05:57 PM

but that head was oh so very tasty!

today guys caught yellowtail in the 20-30lb range right out in front of our place...the water warmed up to the mid 70's now...yeah baby...problem is that the launch ramp is choked with pangas beached for the big swell so we are waiting to get the panga in.

I saw these guys posing for a photo this morning and thought I'd film it as I saw a big set coming in...it reminded me of when I got washed off the rocks there...these guys were lucky.

chuckie - 7-7-2014 at 04:37 AM

I didn't see you get washed off the rocks, however I have seen you kinda "on the rocks":P

BajaBlanca - 7-7-2014 at 05:18 AM
