Well...it was 12.90 to one a couple of weeks back.
It doesn't really matter much to me on a day to day basis except that merchants adjust their prices on imported items depending on the exchange rate and it seems, that which goes up, rarely goes down on a readjustment.

Also....12.90 to 13.27 in such a short time is a big jump/fall.... however one wants to see it.

More pesos per dollar will help offset the increase in gas prices for us gringos.

Gas prices go up every month. That's guaranteed.
No guarantees on Peso/Dollar values from minute to minute. :?:

and A sixth straight month of solid 200,000-plus job growth (for those who want to work) helped boost the economy as well. Unfortunately, this rise in the value of the dollar will hurt those Mexicans who purchase US goods and services.

...should help those that send money home,,reverse the trend ,,,no?

bajabuddha - 8-5-2014 at 08:43 AM

For crying out loud, the difference between 12.8 and 13.27 is about THREE CENTS ON THE DOLLAR.

Somebody should pass out some Kool-Aid. Jayzus, people.

Most definitely helps those with dollars that spend or send money in/to Mexico. In the short term anyway.

That's 3%. I think that's significant.

I know, but posting stuff about the peso makes Dennis happy, so its OK...

In your case, insignificant...In a macro sense, 3 % is huge.

Shouldn't affect the sender whatsoever. Earn dollars...send dollars. I doubt they would involve their needy recipient with micro-managing the interchange.

bkbend - 8-5-2014 at 09:32 AM

In layman's terms, what I will save in a typical month of spending will buy half the beer I will drink in that month. That is significant.

Indeed it is. That's app .2% per day or a rate of app 73% per year.
Way way too early for long term planning.

I normally buy 8000 pesos at an atm. At 12.8p/$ that = 625 bucks. At 13.27 8000 pesos costs me 604 bucks. That's TWO WTF burgers WITH fries! 20 bucks still means something to me.

I have an exchange rate bookmark too. This HUGE amount of fluctuation happens every week, at least twice a week, and has maintained the same flux for about a year or so now. Dollar goes up in the summer, and down in the spring when folks are headed north to turn in their pesos, even more so than this monster increase. Wow, what news.

So when Antonio posted the dollar price of gasoline, he was using 12.50:1, now at 13.29:1, gas in Baja just got cheaper for dollar users, or those who just exchanged dollars for pesos.

For clarity. About 900 Christians murdered their children and killed themselves at Jonestown because the REVEREND Jim Jones told them to. The poison was administered in a sweetened water drink mix that wasn't even Kool Aid. The reference from the beginning has been that a person or group could be so stupid, so gullible, as to "drink the Kool Aid." Since virtually all of the dead were African Americans, the term has necessarily held racist overtones from it's first use. I can't remember ever hearing any of my friends say it. It is a double headed slur rooted in racism. It seems somewhat popular in conservative circles. Its careless use is spreading even as fewer and fewer remember the grim news those days. Disrespectful of the victims, I'd say, at least.
