Punta Chivato 9-21 On

Russ - 9-21-2014 at 11:43 AM

For those of you that are expecting an e-mail I've taken photos and sent them but for some reason it doesn't appear they are going out.
My Ranger died today at the estuary but I was able to limp back. The estuary is still a big mess and some in 4x4 are going in and out. Very few and some have been stuck on the PV side. Road in from the estuary is good. Photos later.
Bugs are getting bad today. You'd better bring juice for them if you're coming down.

PC side of estuary. There is about a 4' jump over the cut on the PC side where the green marker is. then take off into the desert around a mud hole that was the road.

PV side

desertcpl - 9-21-2014 at 03:06 PM

that road looks really bad,,, I hope you guys get some equipment in soon

Meany - 9-21-2014 at 04:10 PM

Russ if there is something I can get for the Ranger, let me know. I'll go to the dealer tuesday. what a mud hole. Under other surrcumstands it would be fun.

Fastbird - 9-21-2014 at 05:50 PM

Hey Russ, did your weather station hold up through the sorm? If so, do you have total rain and wind speeds at Chivato?

Russ - 9-21-2014 at 06:17 PM

It did stay up but I'm sure I'll have to move it because I don't believe the high readings. I thing we had just over 12" of rain and gusts of at least 70mph.
Here's what my weather station showed. Sorry can't get the photo up
Having a lot of failures with banda ancha and mail out and photo bucket

Mam gust at 58mph and 8.6" rain

mooose29 - 9-21-2014 at 06:54 PM

Russ. What a crazy amount of rain and wind. Hopefully it didn't all run off and some went into the groundwater.

Fastbird - 9-21-2014 at 08:21 PM

Russ, thanks for the rain and wind estimates at Punta Chivato!
Was the wind direction out of the east mostly?

Russ - 9-22-2014 at 06:16 AM

Good morning all! I hope life is better today and all that are overcoming any storm related problems find today a little easier.

chivatojoe - 9-22-2014 at 06:42 AM

Good Morning Russ. Thanks for your reports. Hope to be down this Friday with Bill Frost. Jack and Sharron Matthews are also on there way.. Please let us know what you or the community needs.

watizname - 9-22-2014 at 07:48 AM

Hey buddy, nice to have you back. Looks can be deceiving, the pics this morning look like it is almost chilly. The weather station tells the truth though.

David K - 9-22-2014 at 07:54 AM

So good to have things back in order with you there Russ!

Russ - 9-23-2014 at 09:42 AM

Guero just called and said he'll work on the estuary today with the equipment that isn't committed to the hwy or Santa Rosalia. Also Paul spoke with Chichi and was told the they pumped water yesterday. Don't know if that included Shell Beach.

Pescador - 9-23-2014 at 10:00 AM

Shell beach is supposedly today.

Meany - 9-23-2014 at 10:04 AM

Good News Russ. Also did you get my e-mail about your parts??

Russ - 9-23-2014 at 12:30 PM

Meany - 9-23-2014 at 01:46 PM

Hi Again
Jeeze I love this time of year! The sky is beautiful all day and the sunrises are the best. Sorry you only get one small instant of the sun rise. I know a lot of you are anxious to come down now. Mulege is getting cleaned up little by little as reported on the Mulege thread. Guero has started road repairs but isn't close to working on the estuary from the few reports I've received so be ready for some 4x4 areas around it. I'm putting off my adventure to town one more day. Maybe today the mechanic will show to fix my generator. I've been fine without AC but bed time it would really be nice. That seems to be the hardest on me but only for a few hour until it starts to cool off.

Russ - 9-24-2014 at 06:27 AM

Usually by the time the sun come up the colors are washed out but today it's nice.

chivatojoe - 9-24-2014 at 06:57 AM

Looks like a nice day. Hear things are starting to improve .
Have you heard if the runway is "officially "open?
Any word on Internet fix? I think Bret's Hughes is working so if you need you could go down and pull up a chair by the pool and surf away...

David K - 9-24-2014 at 07:01 AM

Thank you Russ!

Meany - 9-24-2014 at 07:15 AM

Nice shots. keep and eye on eebmike??

Russ - 9-24-2014 at 08:41 AM

Yep, it's open two days ago, maybe 3 days, John Watkins got permission to check out the runway I saw him flying around in the yellow plane and shortly after a King Air landed. I heard they were from water and power companys and Chivato was the closest strip for them to come in. Maybe a little buggy by the pool now. In fact anywhere you stop for a moment the bugs find you and it isn't pretty.

Carlos said that Joe and Oxley's internet was working fine. We are still waiting on parts for Lynne's system, but have heard absolutely nothing.

Russ - 9-24-2014 at 01:02 PM

I'm waiting to get word from you about Lynne's Hughes too. If he can get it working I'm interested.

Russ - 9-24-2014 at 02:41 PM

3:30
A storm is building and heading our way. already wind gusts to 31mph.

Russ - 9-24-2014 at 05:45 PM

Turned out it died over the SOC. But enough wind to blow patio furniture around.

Russ - 9-25-2014 at 06:05 AM

Hi each day's a little better.

chivatojoe - 9-25-2014 at 06:48 AM

Buzz you tomorrow. Sure I can't bring you anything?

David K - 9-25-2014 at 09:25 AM

Thanks Russ!

Russ - 9-25-2014 at 11:31 AM

I'm good Joe. There are a lot of folks bring me stuff by next week.
Just went into town this morning. Both side of the estuary are easily passable. The grader is buried again on the PV side and ther ai a pretty good mud bog right there and the where you cross the water at the estuary it is deep. My Explorer didn't like it and after I got though it sputtered for awhile. There is bank going up over the PC side of the estuary that is about a 4 to 5 foot that is steep but doable. The two stores I went to were well stocked.

Meany - 9-25-2014 at 01:44 PM

Thanks for the info Russ. Hope they get the grader out??

Russ - 9-26-2014 at 06:07 AM

Good Morning:bounce:
There must be some significance in the cloids this morning. These tall columns are really interesting.

I'm for casting Rachel is not going to threaten BCS with rain. I think the West coast will be happy with some improving waves.

Meany - 9-26-2014 at 06:59 AM

WOW!! Nice shots of the blow-ups. Likeing the morning temps... See Ya in a Few.:bounce:

bigmike58 - 9-26-2014 at 06:59 AM

Russ, glad you are doing well... My 4 yr old just asked if that is a fire.. sure looks like the water is on fire.. great pic as always...

Russ - 9-26-2014 at 07:57 AM

Ed G came in last night and reported the grader is no longer stuck and is gone. He must have come in at low tide because he reported only a foot of water. Still some rough areas. Klers coming in today and I'll report what they encounter.

Russ - 9-27-2014 at 06:31 AM

Another gorgeous morning. Our seasonal folks are arriving starting this week.

The cooler water temps in the wake of the last two storms, and the way this one has made almost a uturn, signal the end of the season I hope.

bigmike58 - 9-27-2014 at 08:10 AM

I hope you are right!

Russ - 9-27-2014 at 10:29 AM

I'm in good shape. Just need a mechanic to put the generator pull starter back together and figure out why Bubba is over heating. Craig is here but I haven't seen him. Should I pay him for the supplies you brought or wait for you? Lots of Chivato folks due next week. Thanks again for you timely help!
