David K - 11-21-2014 at 06:13 PM

Who was it?

fandango - 11-21-2014 at 06:20 PM

And where?

AKgringo - 11-21-2014 at 06:32 PM

All I know is that I recognize an Alaska plate! That one depicts the stampeders going over the Chilkoot pass near Skagway.
I have no idea what 'OLD FART' means, and how he got seven letters on that edition.

bajabuddha - 11-21-2014 at 06:44 PM

From the Nom de Plume on the license plate, it could be just about any one of us...

chuckie - 11-21-2014 at 06:52 PM

My ex wife...description fits....

Oh, don't kid yerselfs.

Mulegena - 11-21-2014 at 06:57 PM

It was GOTTAPESO!!!

I'm jealous!

John M - 11-21-2014 at 06:58 PM

Could that be Neal Johns hiding under the cap?
the description fits pretty good.

John M

I am sworn to secrecy never to reveal the identity of the Chairman.

On that Alaska plate guess, AKgringo..edit to say ...correct.

Perhaps we're missing something. I can only think of a line from that great movie...The Shawshank Redemption...quote...."Or am I being too 'obtuse"?

willardguy - 11-21-2014 at 07:28 PM

did anyone guess KOWEUTAG selling Kobe Nike's?

fandango - 11-21-2014 at 07:46 PM

There is a flying j along the 905 on the way to otay. Who do we know who heading south? Rig looks too clean to be northbound.
What a fun coincidence to meet a nomad like that.
Of course, there are also flying j's in Florida.

AKgringo - 11-21-2014 at 07:52 PM

Pompano.... I don't know where the truck and trailer are from, but I am certain that the plate on the quad is the special issue, 1999 commemoration of the centennial of the Klondike gold rush! I had one on one of my cars.
It is odd that Alaska would celebrate a Canadian gold rush, but that started the stampede that helped get the territory settled.
I am pretty sure that OLD ART, bought himself an F because Alaska still only has six letters or numbers.

YES!! My mistake entirely, AKgringo. I was looking at another photo and car plate, thinking it was this one. This one is indeed Alaska. I'm going to the eye doctor tomorrow.

7 letters on a personal plate in the lower 48 is the norm, I believe. (But in truth I've never checked) I know ND allowed me 7 on my DukTruk suburban.

The photo WAS taken at a Flying J.

The trailer looks like Idaho plates. The quad plate dont look real, dont think dmv would issue an " offensive " plate, and that is a car or truck plate.

akbear - 11-21-2014 at 08:27 PM

I second that is an Alaskan plate. I hated to take mind off last month, for SD one. '99 F-250 Super Duty.
Now I look like half the cars/trucks in BCS.

Pompano - 11-21-2014 at 08:35 PM

Alaskan plate...the 'F' was an add-on by the driver.

It was just some old fart.

I've got to go now.

Heading down next week, Can't wait!

AKgringo - 11-22-2014 at 06:58 AM

Good shot! It looks like you must be parked in Stewart, British Columbia, looking at the border crossing into Hyder, Alaska.
Interesting combination of cultures and spectacular scenery!

Ah, nothing like a Hyder Highjack! I love that place. Alaska's most southernmost town...with a whopping population of 87 in 2010. Feels more Canadian than American. Where you go to get Hyderized High...and then walk on glaciers and do some sketching. Good times, Good place.

Here's some photos from our last trip scrapbook.

Take a little Hyderizer home for a nightcap...

Take a little brisk walk on the glaciers to relieve the Hyder Hangover...;)

Hmmm.....I wonder if we could survive another Hyder trip?

Neal Johns - 11-22-2014 at 01:15 PM

John M, you're gonna die! (this is not a terrorist threat, just a statement of fact, considering how old and rotten you are). :-) :-) :-)

I know where you live!
When are you going on that pre-run check of the PLR?

Neal Johns - 11-22-2014 at 02:15 PM

John M,
Marian bought me a new toy suitable for a young kid like me. Eat your heart out. I told her I was taking it on the PLR. Check your email.

Skipjack Joe - 11-22-2014 at 03:10 PM

Is that 'co-pilot', Roger? She looks so much younger in these pictures. You two sure had some good times together.

white lighting

captkw - 11-22-2014 at 05:48 PM

me and my sister got hyderized..woke up next to the salmon creek near a bridge with bears running around !!! walking across the town bridge into hyder is steppen back in time !!!

Ribbonslinger - 11-22-2014 at 05:52 PM

When I worked up there we used to bring bottles back to Prince George. Mix it with grapefruit juice . Gets the " party started quickly "

Ribbonslinger - 11-22-2014 at 07:14 PM

Brian is 80lbs. Not a mean dog at all. All of the fights he got into I had him on the lead right beside me.

Funny story about that White lightening. I was working in Petersburg Alaska. Went out drinking with the boys. Had a hard time getting used to drinking US beer (1/2 strength of Canadian beer) at $5 a pop. Our dollar was in the toilet at the time so it was a little pricey. Started working the bartender pretty good about it. He gave us a couple of rounds of Everclear on the house to shut us up. Black out after that. Woke up in a trashed hotel room and a big bill I had to explain to my wife once I got home from my shift.

LOL,,ya thats some licker !

captkw - 11-22-2014 at 07:19 PM

BTW, I reposted back over on the solo dog thread..Ooops !!

Salmon Glaciar was awsome

Pompano - 11-23-2014 at 05:56 AM

BeemerDan, it looks like we've trekked the same paths in Hyder. One of the great things about exploring Salmon Glacier is it's easy accessibility to travelers. A place of breathtaking scenery and I'll bet you really enjoyed taking the motorcycle through it all.

Indeed, Igor...that's Felipa for you. She always looks great and we've shared some splendid years and events. Incidentally, we have the same birthday (which helps to insure that I never forget hers.) Not the same year, but the same day/month. We even got married on our birthday. She reminds me on those occasions... 'I'll always be 10 years younger than you'. I don't know why she finds humor in that. Women are very mysterious.

bufeo - 11-23-2014 at 09:12 AM

We've been to Hyder twice. First time in '73; second time '05. Unfortunately we did see some differences. One was the fact that where we camped and I fly-fished in '73 now has a large parking area, tourist kiosk, and boardwalk so the tourists can see the bears "up close and personal" from the safety of the raised boardwalk.

The two towns (Steward B.C. and Hyder AK) should always be on the itinerary of anyone who's driving to AK. If nothing else the forty-mile drive along the Bear River from Meziadin Jct. is some great scenery.
