I see you're in Mulege. I've used wifi in Mulege in several places and it has always worked fine. No problems. Maybe the problem is with your computer.

Alacran, the problem is not your wifi connection. What happens when you try a telmex page? What firewalls are you using.? Any problems opening other pages?

Alm - 6-6-2015 at 11:39 AM

Bandwidth (megabytes) has nothing to do with "opening pages", unless it's some page with a video running. Even then, you should be able to slowly partially open it.

If you totally can't open a page, it's either your computer problem, or a server (website) problem.

alacran - 6-7-2015 at 12:15 PM

Thank you for the advice, but I have a brand new comp. "LENOVO", I had Hugo connect it to the internet. I have a new modem, and new filters.
I only get 1.7 Mg.
I haveto turn the comp. off, and start again. Then it will open the page.

Bob and Susan - 6-7-2015 at 12:34 PM

what are "filters" needed for

Wally - 6-7-2015 at 01:37 PM

This may help

Go to speedtest.net. Run the test a couple of times over a 5 minute period. If the download speeds are all over the place you likely don't have a good connection somewhere between the computer and your Telmex phone line junction box (the one that serves several lines around you). When you pick up the phone and listen to the dial tone is it scratchy or have a lot of noise?

Then open a web browser and type 192.168.1.254 (the modem's IP address) to access the system. The default user name is usually TELMEX and the password is usually the wep key. Run through the menu options and find the diagnostics page. There should be a DSL line test option. This will give you a summary of your connection speeds and some live data. Print this page out as well as the speed test.net results.

If you aren't getting close to the speeds your plan calls for then:

1. Check the WAN configuration page and make sure the user name is the one they gave you (usually something like your lastname@prodegyweb.net). If it isn't then you are logged into the default connection that is basic and slow so that there is an internet connection to preform the initial setup.

2. Call the customer number and get a case number. Tell them you just want a case number so that you can go to the office and request a that a tech can come out and check the line because of your bad internet connection. These little robots will ask 40 questions and want you to try10 things but they are following a script and can't deviate from it. It's never happened to me but you might get lucky and get off the phone in under 20 mins.

Then go to the office and ask for the manager. The counter people know nothing about DSL, line speeds, error rates....all they know is what the screen says. Show the manager your diagnostic printouts. If there is a problem get a tech scheduled. He will come out and verify the quality of the line at the junction box, where it enters your property and in the house if needed.....

....or reboot the modem

Good luck

alacran - 6-7-2015 at 03:56 PM

Thank you Wally, for the answer.
I have not done all the steps you mention, however I have had several tech. From Telmex out at the house, and the bottom line was that I only received 1.7 Mg. Bites, and the cables are old, and Telmex does not want to invest in fiber optic cables in mulege at this time.

Internet II (help)

alacran - 6-9-2015 at 04:54 PM

I will try to explain again my problem.

a) I have a new computer
b) I can not most of the time, open a new page.
c) I says "new page"
d) But it does not open.
e) It says can NOT open the page
f) If I shoot the compute down, and open again, it will open that page.
g) I had Telmex techs. here several times, gave me new modem, and new filters.
h)Telmex tech. said I did not receive enough Mg (only get 1.6) and signal not strong enough, for comp. to open the pages.

This is happening since my NEW comp was installed.

NEED HELP.
Thanks.

willyAirstream - 6-9-2015 at 06:15 PM

Jose , the local telmex repairman could not help? Bring your laptop down to Sauls or in front of my place. Connectto my wifi, ``contact richard``, it is open, no pass word needed. Run 3 or 4 tests on speedtest.net
Now uninstall or disable your firewalls and test again. All test should be above 5.
When you say filters, I assume you mean firewalls, yes?
If you get high speed on my connection, then you either have a bad modem or old hard wire coming into your house. As Wally asked, is the dial tone scratchy? If it is only the wire to your house, they will replace it. If it is a line at the road, they are replacing some of that now.
Just read again, this started after you got the new laptop, no problems before? If so, it is probably your modem.

DSL Line Filters

willyAirstream - 6-9-2015 at 06:54 PM

Ahhhh, thx

alacran - 6-10-2015 at 05:59 PM

Thanks Willy, but I have a PC, no laptop.
The problem persists, even with or without filters.
I have as mentioned new Modem, therefore I do not believe WIFI, would be my problem.
Once I turn the comp. on evrything works for a few pages, after that , " NEW Tab" appears, and will not open.
If I turn comp.off, and start again, it will open that page.

willyAirstream - 6-10-2015 at 06:27 PM

Are you still getting slow speeds on speedtest.net?

Dial tone sounds normal?

Are you familiar using tabs?

How many tabs are open at any one time?

Ck your novias speed on her tablet.

[Edited on 6-11-2015 by willyAirstream]

alacran - 6-10-2015 at 11:17 PM

Thanks, Willy.
Have no idea what speedset is?
Dial tone normal.
All all know it shows"NEW TAB"
And it does not open. Then it shows page "tab" could not open.
Only one tab, at the time.
Take a look at the last lines on my last message.

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 05:34 AM

first take a "speed test"
here is a link:
http://www.speedtest.net/

speed test.jpg - 71kB

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 05:37 AM

this is the number you want to look at...
the others are unimportant right now

in the USA I got 27-28 using fios
anything above 12 would be acceptable
hughesnet was 1.7 on a good day
we are using SAT service right now

speed2.jpg - 89kB

willyAirstream - 6-11-2015 at 06:44 AM

BS, the best he will get on dsl, feed by a T1 line, in Mulegè is 5.8 Mbps roughly.

P, i can come up there early afternoon. Will you be there?

chuckie - 6-11-2015 at 06:49 AM

Shouldn't be a problem....I have had that service in 3 different homes up there....

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 12:47 PM

there are SO many things that COULD be wrong here...

who buys a desktop anymore...I don't even think the stores in the USA even sell them...

if you use a laptop you are a dinosaur...telephones and those surface things are the norm.

he could have conflicting cards inside
he could have a virus
he could have windows opening up one after another
he could have not enough memory
he could have windows 8 or something else that "eat" memory
his modem could be incompatible with his wireless
more and more

he needs a computer guy out there and PAY him (geek squad)

alacran - 6-11-2015 at 12:48 PM

Hi Willy, Yes I will be here. Glad to see you.
Thanks.

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 12:53 PM

what was the speed on the test

run one now while you are online

willyAirstream - 6-11-2015 at 01:17 PM

On my way

alacran - 6-11-2015 at 04:17 PM

chuckie... what were your speeds om loma azul?

looks like the max speed here at alcrans is 1.9 and diagnostics of modem verifies this.

willy

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 04:24 PM

my question...is this with YOUR laptop or alacran's?

and are you plugged into the modem or using the router?

[Edited on 6-11-2015 by Bob and Susan]

chuckie - 6-11-2015 at 04:25 PM

Dunno..It was always more than I needed so never really checked....

Should be enough. 1.6 - that he claims he's getting - should still be enough if it's honest 1.6. Seems like it drops connection shortly after start-up every time. Something is wrong with the comp or Windows that it came with, or setup.

willyAirstream - 6-11-2015 at 06:26 PM

The dropping the connection was a problem with the pc connecting. Re configured pc internet connections and that was solved. Tested modem as per Wallys suggestion, and that was 2.05 Mgps Tested with various devices and 2 modems, connected via hardwire and wireless. All devices were 1.5 to 1.9. Problem is either the wire to the house, which will be changed or the wire at the road, which they are in the process of changing. New from Saul's up around the bend to the estuary. He is now able to load 20 new tabs, play poker and check the news streams.

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 06:31 PM

tabs...games...new streams...all bandwith suckers

with a slow internet everything you aren't using has to be turned off

cell phone too...it'll cut your speed

what was the speed when hard wired to the modem and eliminating the router

did you use another computer to check speeds

willyAirstream - 6-11-2015 at 06:46 PM

BS....we know having lots of windows open, etc use bandwidth, just saying that it can now handle that load, that download. We were testing.

Running an ipad and the pc are no problem at 1.9

Read my post again for speeds and that we used various devices ( ie a pc and a tablet)

It is dsl, only uses a modem, wifi for the house and immediate area.

Bob and Susan - 6-11-2015 at 08:41 PM

can you change the "channel" on the wifi
sometimes that will slow the connection
especially if the neighbors have the same one

do you receive the neighbors signal too

my old router (wifi) really slowed the new internet here...
bought another then fine...the old one was not compatible

willyAirstream - 6-11-2015 at 08:53 PM

He has the telmex modem which incorpoates wifi, one unit, no channels. No neighbors either. You are on sat., different ballgame than dsl. His wifi is fine, the incoming signsl is weak. Over and out.

alacran - 6-13-2015 at 10:00 AM

Well thanks for all that tried to help, the problem still persists, it opens a few tabs (pages) then it shows NEW Tab, and does not open, unless I turn comp.off and restart. Then the process starts again.
Have contacted TM again, and hope to obtain new cable from street post to the house, as WA had mentioned.
Will see?????
Thanks again to all.

willyAirstream - 6-13-2015 at 10:12 AM

AOL problem?

having slow internet wont cause this issue.

how much "ram memory" do you have? (working memory)
what version of windows are you using? (windows8 takes double)
why are you opening several tabs at one time...and not oneata time

this really sounds to me like a memory problem
this would be why you need to re-boot

are you using a virus program?
recently avast was conflicting with windows defender and was slowing my internet...cant run both right now

you may have a virus that is sucking bandwith...
did you run a virus scan?

I had slow internet for years...its slow and you wait...no need to re-boot unless you are out of memory

my advice is to take the computer over to HUGO and see how it runs there...let him scan it for viruses and see how much memory you actually need
