What fun! We really enjoyed our visit of Pozo Aleman. I will make a list of other mine sites that may interest you in, this weekend. Other Nonads may share some too?

Another mine center closer to Ensenada is El Alamo (gold)... still some activity going on there, search Nomad for more, I have not yet been there.

Km. 32, south of San Felipe, and 5 miles west is a large sulfur mining area, abandoned in the 1950's. http://www.vivabaja.com/204/page11.html

One more is the El Desengaño mine and town site on the old road to Bahia de los Angeles are interesting... open pits, beware! I can dig up photos if you like.

Northeast of Todos Santos, El Triunfo is a fascinating mine town that was virtually abandoned in the mid-20s. It's experiencing somewhat of a revival, with a chef opening up a great little restaurant and the old church under restoration.

There are many throughout Baja. Go past Pozo Aleman for some other ruins, also Baja Sur has mining ruins that date back to the late 1700s and maybe DavidK will post some of these. If you are willing to hike, you can find other sites and even abandoned Mission remains with waterworks, structures, etc. See San Jose de Comondú viejo, Los Dolores, etc. Especially see San Pedro Mártir if you like to hike to quite an isolated area. These sites are rarely seen due to their isolation.
