Somehow, my fillet knife disappeared and I need to replace it. I need recommendations; I'd like to stay under $50.

I use a Rapala from Walmart. It costs about $10.00, and is a great knife. I would gladly pay $50.00 for a better knife, but it is not necessary.
Gotta love Walmart!BigBearRider - 6-20-2015 at 05:11 PM
That's the one! Spent more, but have yet to find a better knifeMMc - 6-20-2015 at 05:16 PM
Look at Victornox, many of the sport boat guys use them. Not the hardest steel at all, but easy to maintain and use.
Their Chiefs knife is Food Illustrated go to knife. http://www.victorinox.com/us/category/Cutlery/Category/2080?...
Asking a fisherman about which knife is better is like asking a woman what makes the best man. There are no right answers other then what is right for
you.hombre66 - 6-20-2015 at 05:32 PM
Carbon Blades are by far the sharpest. Pro's: sharpens fast easy and sharp whether you use a stone or rod. Cons: Rust. Dry it off. and sheath after
use.
Get em at a commercial marine supply. WAY under $50 .Hook - 6-20-2015 at 05:57 PM
I like Forschners/ Victorinox knives.
I have a 10 inch, but a lot of the Mex skippers over here have the 12 inch and they do work better on a bigger fish.
Right in your price range, Santiago, especially if you are an Amazon Prime guy. MIght be able to find it cheaper, but the shipping is right.
A great overall knife for cutting meats, turkeys, too.
Some people like the ones with the Graton edge. I've never used one.
I found the Rapalas to be too narrow bladed for me and I had trouble keeping them flat as I went along the ribs of a big fish. I like the increased
width of the Forschners for this.
Of course, all I catch are big fish..................

Thanks all.AKgringo - 6-21-2015 at 11:14 AM
I don't know if you folks are getting the same banner on this forum from FSW showing fillet knives. The one on the left from Dexter, is the same
shape as my all time favorite large fish knife! I think mine is longer than 8 inches (but then, all guys think that).
I bought mine in Mexico at an open air market after watching the local fishermen cutting the catch of the day with speed and precision. It was
unbranded Japanese steel, and very flexible. Nothing beats it for salmon and Halibut, you can keep those little fillet knives for trout and pan fish.Doug/Vamonos - 6-23-2015 at 03:22 PM
Forshners all the way. I like the big one for cutting the fish and the smaller one in the kitchen for trimming. And you need WAY MORE than one knife!
By the way, you left at the perfect time. Mosquitos and no see ums ate me alive! Damn they itch!Bob53 - 6-23-2015 at 03:51 PM
Forschners/Victorinox. That is my choice. I have the 8, 10 and 12 inch. I also like the wooden handle Rapalas for smaller fish. Skipjack Joe - 6-23-2015 at 04:25 PM
I use a Dexter and am very happy with it. The party boats here in Half Moon Bay fillete their clients fish with them. Martyman - 6-24-2015 at 11:30 AM
