Canada was a great country a long time ago!!!Since Harper took it over its been an oligarchy with nothing for the protection of the environment, the people or the rights off all except the oil companies!!!That's why I'm moving to Mexico ASAP!!!!

bajaguy - 7-2-2015 at 06:52 AM

If you think by "escaping" to Mexico you will avoid these problems and conditions, you are in for a big surprise

I had the great pleasure of being here in Canadalandia for our July 1st festivities. It was so fun...we were at my Mom's riverfront condo right on the park so the live bands were right in front of us and the best fieworks I have ever seen...so I am feeling very patriotic and nostalgic for my birth country...screw Harper.

For all those respecting Canada as a good country with good people, maybe you could stop the disrespectful jesting about "Kanuckistan", etc.

It is "CANADA".....that is "c" eh "N" eh "D" eh.

Maybe those with a Canadian spouse should get a smack on the head until they get it right ;D

This year I sent my Canadian wife to Edmonton, for her annual visit with her family, via Westjet rather than drive her.She enjoyed Canada day and all the fireworks while I sit here alone in Baja waiting for Mexican Independence day Sept. 15th. I really can't wait that long so I will be celebrating USA Independence day on the 4th. There is always plenty of fireworks here in Punta Banda.

There ya go Bob......didn't even need a slap upside the head...;D:saint:

And a Happy 4th July to my American friends....

We have the maple leaf flying outside now - Deb will be replacing it with the stars & stripes tomorrow evening.

shari - 7-2-2015 at 04:12 PM

Being in Canada on it's birthday made me all nostalgic...my sister and I had a ringside seat from my mom's condo in Sarnia.

I notice that the Aca-NA- dians/ Cajuns in Lousiana do not celebrate Canada Day but they celebrate Bastille Day on July 14th. Is it that way in Quebec also?

There is a disorder of some kind. Even Canadians who speak good Spanish frequently say Cabo as in Taxi Cab-o. And Panga like Hunger Pang-uh.

bajabuddha - 7-3-2015 at 07:32 PM

I've loved linguistics since I was a teenager in the Army, and have always enjoyed trying to detect the origin of dialect all over America. Canadian Espaņol has all the trappings to us as i'm sure all our attempts have to La Gente (payngas are my fave). Between the diversity and the tipping, I do admit I thank my Northern Neighbors for making the "Ugly American" look just a little bit better, with ALL due respect. We sit around the campfires (for us low-life trailer trash types) and bash each other left and right (You can tell an American anything, just not MUCH.......etc.) but you folks do make passable whiskey.
;)

"Taxi Cab-o" .. SF 15 :lol::lol:

Zola - 7-12-2015 at 06:41 PM

My parents emigrated from Montreal to Buffalo, where I was born, many moons ago. I have both nationalities, since Canada and the US now recognize dual US-Canadian citizenship.

I have spent the last 10 years of my life more or less surrounded by Mexican people and now speak Spanish more than I speak English or French. I now live with my two dogs in south-central Baja, returning to San Diego for work responsibilities.

With this background, I now offer the following perspective:

Canada (or at least Montreal and the province of Quebec): Wonderful, humane, generous society, teeming with decent, thoughtful, fun people. Located on an inhospitable tundra that is UNACCEPTABLY and forbiddingly cold in the winter, but humid and swarming with mosquitos in the summer. Late spring and early autumn in Montreal are wonderful, magical. Also, in all seriousness it is a special haven of sense, compassion and prosperity in a harsh world; it is a lovely country, a beautiful culture, but not for me.

California: Magical place, with epic and good surf from OB in San Francisco right to Tijuana Slews, and I am sure there are good spots north of the Golden Gate Bridge, but I never surfed any of them. Amazingly open, open-minded culture. But like the weather, the people in California are sometimes a little too cool for my liking. I spent most of my adult life in Cali -- in Santa Barbara, SF, Santa Cruz and, since 2001, in SD. Santa Cruz has the best waves, and Santa Barbara REALLY has the best waves when it works. There are too many surfers in CA, and the water is too cold everywhere, even in SD. SD has the most breaks and the best beach break in the world, Black's. California is a GREAT PLACE to work, open your own business, and prosper by working very, very hard. It is a great place, and endlessly diverse, which I like.

But overall the US can be a very harsh place. It sometimes seems as though it is composed of completely distinct, essentially incompatible regions (the Old South, the Yankee Northeast, etc.)

Southern Baja: Perfect weather for somone like me; good surf; warmer water; a better vibe in the lineup by ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE; less stress; a better way to live....

PS: I have not proof-read this post and have had wine this evening. That is my excuse if it doesn't make sense or is offensive!

vgabndo - 7-13-2015 at 01:04 PM

Growing up in California you seem to have overlooked that Californians, other than people who communicate with their thumbs, do not refer to their state as "Cali". In the same way, only foreigners call San Francisco, "Frisco". If California were an independent nation, and I wish it was, only seven countries including the USA would have a bigger economy. I consider the diminutive, as you use it, to be either unaware or purposefully insulting. I haven't been drinking, but I was born here and have lived here for 7 decades. I'm glad that Baja Cali suits you.:lol:

motoged - 7-13-2015 at 01:52 PM

Zola,
Canada exists beyond Montreal.....you should get out more
Vancouver Island offers epic surfing....

As well, there are other states beyond Soucal.....

Glad San Juanico makes you happy....just fix those silt beds north of town.....eh !

Zola - 7-13-2015 at 05:24 PM

Tough crowd on this site!

I fully agree that California should become an independent nation-state! :)
