Make my day....er night,,,sleeping first night SOB ?

I realize this post might also fit in the camping area but the tribe is being so helpful and I do have a question....

Seeking a peaceful place to sleep in our rig...non intrusive....about 200-250 miles SOB...?

I cannot remember where the Pacific side wrecked rusty ship is and hence cannot calculate mileage to there.....but looking for something like that.

Anyone need vital supplies from ORegon ?

the name of the place is called San Jacinto, 20 minutes past Colonet. There is an home for old men who are being taken care of and need donations. Casa Ancianos 5 minutes off the highway. you'll drive right past on your way to the shipwreck.

We wondered genrally on that topic of what we might bring south from the great white Norte ?

If you are bringing clothes, put them in suitcases or duffle bags.....Mexican customs (Aduna) frowns on second hand clothes being donated to the needy.

Also, If you pass through El Rosario you might want to make a donation (cash) to the volunteer ambulance/fire service provided by one of our own Nomads, Antonio. You can leave it at the PEMEX station - Upstairs in the office

i am big fan of Don Eddie's in San Quintin (just shy of 300 miles south of Tijuana, and a day's drive for lots of us)

Maybe you meant 300 km? It is about 180 miles from the border...

If'n me, i would camp in the lagunas, at san pedro martir, catavina or bola the first night or 3

Shipwreck is only ok for camping in one if the fenced campgrounds. It aint much to write home about, unless there is a wave, not worth camping.

Several beaches to camp at south of SQ or near el rosario.

If he's going any time soon, the Sierra de Juarez/San Pedro Martir and Catavina are WAY too cold for me at night.

Why would one head south and then camp in areas where the temps are like NOB, at this time of year? Most people want to "Feel the Warmth of Mexico" as the ad slogan goes.

How about the Santa Rosalillita area and north along the coast? It wont be warm but it wont be 20s or 30s at night. Probably upper 60s during the day and mid 50s at night. Maybe even warmer.

Rancho Santa Inez has a large area - coffee and beer too
The rancho at the turnoff to San Fernando mission is now abandoned - you could probably find a spot just past the rancho.
Also, El Marmol. It can get cold in Baja in winter all over.

We Are going south but just wanting a reminder of some quiet places to sleep the first day....will try to cross San Ysidro early and then want about 200-250 miles.


Trying to unwind from the 1100 or so miles which it seems is going to include some mush and slush on southern Oregon grades.

We don't shun motels but like those quiet also.....pulling our little off road tent camper...we leave nothing but tire tracks.

Since the Los Pinos guys bought the Catavina hotel and renamed it Mission, They also upgraded the restaurant. So, if you really want to stay at Rancho Santa Inez, you can still grab a very good meal almost across the street at the hotel.

Or better yet, stay at the hotel.

I suggest the south end of the San Antonio Del Mar sand dunes at Colonet. Camp up high south of the dunes so the sand is not wet. Nice view of the beach. Colonet is 125 KM south of Ensenada. There is also a camp ground south of San Quintin at KM 16 west side with beach spots.

For me, peaceful, happy, relaxed does not begin until I am south of El Rosario. At that point I feel like I am in the Baja I love. And it's only six hours or so from the border, so if you are starting early at the border like you said then it is a very relaxing, brief drive and you would be there by early afternoon. So I'd aim for south of ER. I never really feel safe north of there, especially camping in the middle of nowhere. The vast majority of traffic does not go further south.
