Pretty pathetic when a 21# fish wins a tournament....BUT as long as everyone had fun.....es OK...dorado50 - 6-30-2016 at 10:07 PM
A win is a win! Dorado in this area not wide open yet, not the winners fault!. Craig is an excellent fisherman by the way. Was the 34#er caught in the
Mulege tourney pathetic also?
[Edited on 7-1-2016 by dorado50]chuckie - 7-1-2016 at 02:05 AM
Well, we already talked about that one...But yes, nothing special..And certainly no fault of the fisherperson...Fishing just keeps sliding downhill, I
lived in Mulege for over 30 years And watched It decline...sadHook - 7-1-2016 at 05:12 AM
Yellowfin tuna bite has been pretty good over here, for a few weeks. Wednesday, we got 11 at only 7.5 miles from port. Nothing large, 7-15#, but
delicious!
Dorado STILL spotty. No real size. The fishery is in real trouble. Last year, Mexican "scientists" blamed El Nino. Wonder what they are blaming this
year? Of course, they never blame the real source; illegal overfishing by commercial interests.chuckie - 7-1-2016 at 05:26 AM
That's good to hear on the Yellowfin!Hook - 7-1-2016 at 06:15 AM
I'm surprised they havent been wrapped up, yet. They were biting Wednesday in an area that was about a 1/4 mile square. Not a small school.chuckie - 7-1-2016 at 08:49 AM
Someone will find em and clean em out....They are STOCKING Bluefin over on the Pacific side...So sadPescador - 7-2-2016 at 08:58 AM
Well, don't tell the people who entered the 20th Annual Bulls Only Punta Chivato Tournament that the fish was small. Craig Cove's wife caught it and
you would have thought she brought in a 100 pounder. It was a wonderful weekend and a fantastic tournament. it also raised more money for the
supported charities than any tournament in their history. The Baja Beat played Sunday night at the final awards dinner and we were asked to play at
the Grand Finale Tournament which is August 13 and 14th at Loreto. Expected draw will be over 2,000 people at the Sunday Dinner. Also a good word
goes out to FONMAR which helped put on the tournament. They are a Federal Trust that is involved with selling licenses in Baja Sur, Education and
information about keeping the fishery viable and healthy, Checking for infractions of the laws, and supporting various programs for sustainability.

Sure wasn't disparaging the Fisher person! Just pointing out that the fishery aint producing as in the past....AND I think it was very gracious of you
NOT to drag one of the 30 lb corpses from your freezer and try to steal the glory!...And as I said in my original comment as long as everyone had
fun....Congrats on a good tournamentBajaMama - 7-2-2016 at 09:51 AM
Thanks for sharing! I may be able to stay long enough to enter next year Pescador - 7-2-2016 at 09:11 PM

I missed it this year. Sure wish El Hotelito would remain open for the tournament. The one year I stayed there, I dont think there was an empty room.
Is it still open in the winter months?Pescador - 7-3-2016 at 08:00 PM
Hook. Yes it is open until mid-April but when people start going north, it is hard for the person leasing the business to make a living with the cost
of diesel to run the generator. It actually ended up open for the owner and a couple of friends. We did have a 55 ft. Hatteras enter this year and
they may have had a plane looking for weed patties.Hook - 7-5-2016 at 06:27 AM
Did the old Hotel Punta Chivato ever open up again?Pescador - 7-6-2016 at 02:50 PM
Did the old Hotel Punta Chivato ever open up again?
No, it is still for sale with nothing going on. The other two Hotel Las Flores look active.BigBearRider - 7-6-2016 at 03:05 PM
The Posada las Flores in Loreto is open. I've never been to the one in La Paz. The one in Punta Chivato looks like it's been closed for a few years.
It's a shame.fishbuck - 7-7-2016 at 09:46 PM
I loved staying there. And it was a relative bargain. There even had airplane fuel. It was so cool then.chuckie - 7-8-2016 at 06:11 AM
A GRAND place for a long time...watizname - 7-8-2016 at 06:57 AM
And the little sign behind the bartender that said "These Margaritas are Doubles" didn't lie. Lotsa fun there.
What Chuckie said.Hook - 7-8-2016 at 04:46 PM

What Chuckie said.
No, they didnt lie.
And, at least in my hey-day there, you could call ANY tequila you wanted. It was all the same price.
I often wonder what all those ejido employees are doing now. Did the sale improve their lives?
And how did the ejido acquire it? I never read "One Hell of a Ride" but I assume that talks about it.Pescador - 7-9-2016 at 09:33 AM
In the days when Alvarado owned the restaurant and hotel, it was a real paradise. He was the perfect host and always made you feel welcome and the
food was very, very good. When Marcaletti took over things made a big change and they did not cater much to the local people living at Chivato. He
got into a legal dispute with the Lujans over water and finally lost in court. Seems that was about when he put the hotel up for sale. In addition
his wife was seriously injured in a car accident and she still has major problems.
The best part about the Hotel is the memories.fishbuck - 7-9-2016 at 01:39 PM
The rooms had a cool little atrium in them. One time I saw a mouse and scorpion square off. They circled each other and finally went on their own way.
It was better than tv.
Hooked and lost my 1st marlin there.
