Here is a notice that was sent out:
Hi folks,
If you haven't heard, we were driving out to Maria's art show this morning and found a small Sentry safe lock box broken open and tossed by the side
of the road on the way towards the estuary. It looked like it had been attached on the bottom with 4 screws. Beside it were two Atv type keys, one
for Honda and one for Yamaha (one set had a tire pressure gauge). Barb Wood came by going in and we gave the items to her. Does this sound familiar
to anyone, for us to check a casa for a break in?

common occurrence? I don't know if it is more common here than in other areas. We don't get much traffic so it would be easier for police to notice
suspicious cars and for the community also to notice. We have a pretty aware neighborhood watch now and these break-ins seem to come in waves. So we
are all looking for trouble now. We monitor VHF radios and when something/someone looks off there is a radio call and we all can keep an eye out when
needed 24/7.

about 6 houses were broken in to, some were hit hard. generators, rhinno, tvs etc

The llast two statements seem to be contradictory? Lot of heavy activity not to have been noticed by a "pretty aware neighborhood watch" ....Its a
true shame that this is happening...Signs of the times.....

6 houses hit hard. I would find out why the neighborhood watch is not working. The area is not that big.

I have been informed of the 6 break ins in one night. The homes were neighbors. Unfortunately no other neighbors were around. It was an announcement
over the VHF and there is an investigation on going. The homeowners have not all been notified yet so the extent of the things stolen is unknown. It
was suggested that we hide car, quad and other keys.

6 in 1 nite is quite a job. Sounds like an inside job, perhaps a resident or staff that knew of block of unoccupied house.

I don't know...... but if not done already, can the community pull together funds to install a security camera system to record traffic coming into
and out of the area? I would think a system could be installed to monitor and record the main roads in and out of Punta Chivato. Additionally, maybe
they could be setup within the housing area to monitor traffic within the community, and individual housing units can install them where the
recordings can be used to identify the individuals responsible for the theft. Just a thought from a person within the IT field......

The same Palabre took place a while ago when homes were being looted in Chivato. Cameras, Alarm systems yada yada yada...Did ANYTHING ever actually
get done? AND unless there are dependable responders its a waste of money. That's reality...The Police in Mexico aren't very interested in making
arrests, even if there are pictures galore.

The problem with camera images is that they have to be turned over to the usually incompetent (or complicit) municipal police.
And even IF they turn out to be competent or independent, then you are inserted into the judicial system..............where the prosecutors and/or the
abogados become free agents for themselves. Gringo victims are like blood in the water around sharks.
Judicial reform never happened down here, folks. Don't know what happened to the money the US sent down to Mexico to facilitate the reform. Probably
funded beach front cabanas for higher ups in PRI and PAN.
Reward money is the most efficient, though somewhat smarmy, means of getting stuff back.

The best way to protect your home small trailer in back. Free rent to trusted person to live there. Anyway have three friends here with mansions. That
is how they protect there place while gone for months. For me when I leave I have 4 dogs that need to be fed. So for 200 pesos I have person watch
house from small trailer on my property. Feed dogs water plants. 10 bucks day cheap INS.
