Hot off the press! Lobsterfest in October in La Bocana!

BajaBlanca - 9-1-2018 at 01:10 PM

We went to breakfast at the beach restaurant this morning. Wilmer, one of the managers, came over to chat. They are planning the first ever LOBSTERFEST in La Bocana this October 20th.

I will provide more info as I hear about it but my place at the table is reserved. I love lobster - yummmmmmmmmmmm

That sounds like a really good reason to visit.

fishbuck - 9-1-2018 at 02:17 PM

Intriguing for sure.
Researching runway info now.

fishbuck - 9-1-2018 at 02:41 PM

Anybody have a photo of the runway?
I remember it right on the beach I think. Didn't look difficult.
Maybe a little windy.

caj13 - 9-1-2018 at 04:52 PM

you ever get your passport? last I remember, you kept talking about flying all over Baja, but you apparently didn't have a passport?

Thanks for asking.

BajaBlanca - 9-2-2018 at 07:22 AM

I don't have a pic of the runway in Punta Abreojos, but I will be heading that way on Tuesday and can certainly take one.

TMW - it should be a lot of fun and of course, the first one ever is pretty cool event.

woody with a view - 9-2-2018 at 10:05 AM

I want a tshirt!

BajaBlanca - 9-2-2018 at 11:52 AM

I am going to want one too! Can you and Bia come down?

On the map, G - 5...

Cue DK in 3... 2... 1...

BajaBlanca - 9-5-2018 at 08:19 AM

La Bocana is in Baja South.

The exit to our village is off highway 1 - exit to Punta Abreojos. This exit is after Vizcaino and before San Ignacio.

Once in Punta Abreojos (about a 1 hour drive), you turn right on Calle Miguel Dominguez.

All roads on the salt flat lead to La Bocana.

To find us: once in La Bocana, go to the main church on the square. turn rt, first left, first rt and look for the 2 story building on the right - that is the hotel and there are signs!

With the above area described by Blanca, my regional map can help. The 52-mile highway to Abreojos and access on to La Bocana is at Km. 97+ between Vizcaino (Km. 143) and San Ignacio (Km. 73).

ALL 30 of my 2018 Baja Maps are in a post in the Nomad Road Conditions forum. Here: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=88771

Thanks David!

DouglasP - 9-5-2018 at 01:07 PM

Would it be possible to make it from Punta Chivato to Punta Abreojos/La Bocana area via dirt/4 wheel drive roads/trails?
Always looking for the alternate route....

fishbuck - 9-5-2018 at 06:18 PM

Got my pilot medical cert. (physical).
So that runway is looking good!
I don't need know stinkin' picture.;D
I know the type. Call it a blind date.
A windsock will be helpful.

Not entirely in the dirt. Hwy to Mulege then dirt road west/southwest to the San Raymundo trail to the coast at La Ballena then north on, you pick em, either the salt flat road or the high road to the paved road toward San Ignacio. You can cross over on the dirt road at El Alamo to San Angel and then to the paved hwy to Punta Abreojos then north to La Bocana on the graded road. Enough dirt to make it interesting.

so we can now assume you have your current passport in hand?

David K - 9-6-2018 at 09:25 AM

I think the airports on my maps are only those seen or obvious from the ground. Nearly every major fish camp had or has a runway. That was how they got fresh lobster to market. Best to check with Baja Bush Pilots (Bush Pilots International) on the status of the runways. Many have been closed (ditched) if the military felt they could be used to transport drugs. A large fee is also needed to be paid to keep a runway open.
