tent camping near Loreto

GR5000 - 12-21-2020 at 02:19 AM

Hello,

Any nice secure tent campsites near Loreto? We'd like to find a campground where we can leave our tent up and not have to worry about it.

Never been to this area before so would very much appreciate anyone's feedback. It would be really nice if we could find some campground on a beach or close to the beach.

Thanks

How about IN Loreto?

A mere block or two from both the Malecon and the mission is a little campground we tried to stay at last October. We found it closed at the time but if open, would be both convenient and secure we think.

The owner had posted here on Nomad but this morning searches were fruitless. So, I cannot recall the name. (Thanks to David K - he came up with the camp info in the post following this) The attached map shows just where it is - on a sort of dead end road accessible only via a narrow one-block street - almost an alley by the name Romanita.

The street it's on, Salvatierrra, is mostly pedestrian traffic almost no cars.

I stayed at that camp ground in Loreto about 7 years ago and it was extremely convenient, and felt reasonably secure. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

hola and welcome to nomad,

there is a rv park named LA RIVIERA ( ? ) that had signs posted on telephone/power poles throughout loreto but, that was about ten or so years ago.

if it is still open, it was exceptionally clean and showers and bathrooms were constantly maintained.

i stayed there sleeping in a small suv and pulling a small utility trailer. for a couple of years thereafter, i pitched a small tent and would leave everything set up and nothing was ever disturbed whenever i did tourist things.

they also had a very nice restaurant and the food and service were excellant.

can others pitch in please ?

also, if a small boutique hotel in loreto will work, go to HOTEL ANGRA. super clean and very large rooms with wonderful english speaking owner/operators and reasonable prices.

BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

The whole Loreto area has become gentrified with more affluent expats and as that continues camping areas steadily ae decreasing. I used to camp in several places in Loreto in the past that are now gone as properties have been sold. The only RV place in town is overcrowded with RVs this time of year. The Loreto National Marine Park is nearby; when I last camped there several people warned about theft for campers. Sadly in the whole Baja area it is becoming cheaper to book on AirBnB than pay $20+ nightly for camping spot. I have almost stopped camping due to this.

X2 on Romanita. It's right off the Malecon. Last year it was booked solid all winter, but this year is probably different.

We have also stayed at Hote Angra. Not too expensive but a ways from the Malecon. Iguana Inn is great. Steve and Fani are the best. Just up the street from the Malecon.

Last time I was in Loreto the Casa Palmas Atlas was closed. Also found another sites that says they are only providing Glamping ($60/night) so not sure. Always set your results on last year as things change frequently all over Mexico inclu Baja.
