Sippin' Tequila

Allwaters - 1-4-2021 at 04:20 AM

Many years ago on a trip down While in search of some sipping stuff I had come accross a bottle of Tequila with a Bighorn Sheep on it. It was called Cimarron (still available online but w slightly different label). Being a Wildlife guy naturally I chose this one as it was also at a reasonable price. On multiple trips down there I have since kept an eye out for this brand but have not found it in any of the big or small markets... so I buy other stuff... My palate is not an expensive one but I do like the smoother sipping Tequilas. What other brands does anyone recommend that are of decent sipping quality and won't break the bank?

Jimador is a less expensive brand sold by Herradura, and I like it better than most others I've tasted. Their reposado and añejo are both excellent sipping tequilas but won't break the bank. Their blanco and reposado are my go-to tequilas for margaritas or other mixers.

Don Julio Blanco is my goto but Suave is fairly smooth as well

Gran Centenario Añejo

My new favorite (until the next one comes along) is Herradura Cristalino. Not cheap, but not an ultra speedy one either.
I’ve tried several bottles of that Uber spendy stuff, nice but not worth it in my humble opinion.

I was a witness to this, and it is true (see photos from two of them)! LOL

Any expression by Siete Leguas, Fortaleza, G4, Pasote, El Tesoro, Tapatio, Calle 23, Suerte. If you are in CA, often some of these can be obtained at deep discounts at Costco.

Check out https://tequilamatchmaker.com and https://tastetequila.com for reviews and all you'd ever want to know about Tequilas.

Sipping Don Julio Blanco. Margs Cabo Wabo, Kirkland brand Blanco.

The reposado is pretty good for sipping also and reasonably priced.

I think you'd like Agavero - a tequila liqueur with damiana.

I vote for Herradura extra anejo for sippin':P

ReTire - 1-15-2021 at 05:51 PM

I have a new favorite! Maestro Dobel Diamanté. Tastes very good and is smooth. Cheaper than Hurradura Cristalino. It’s worth a try.

anyone else up for the sunrise trip?

Never understood the drinking of chilled tequila. Guess I should try sometime. Is it to mask the flavor or harshness perhaps?

My Mexican father-in-law turned me on to Jimador añejo long ago...AGREED, it's a great tequila for the price. Then my wife's auntie from Mexico City turned me on to Don Julio añejo kept in the freezer poured into frozen shot glasses and I've never looked back.
¡ Salud !

Give it a go!

Words are not as effective in describing the experience as actually giving it a go. It's not a super big deal, but it's a fun diversion from warm shots.

I'd sooner set off a smoke bomb in my mouth.

But the Herradura IS a cooler temperature. That's about the only difference.

All of the Don Julio line just rocks! But I'm too cheap to use it in margaritas. That is usually Hornitos, Jimador or Sauza Gold.

I'm of the opinion that people who chill or freeze anejo tequilas should simply buy reposados and save the money. Chilled anejo is simply trying to mask an over-oaked flavor.

 advice from someone who would put sauza gold in their mouth? I don't think so.....

If you want to treat yourself, try Maestro Dobel Cristalino. Smooth but full of flavor. If I was filthy rich it’s what I would drink all of the time.

It’s a once a year treat!

My God, Willardguy, you're still alive?

My God, so am I! Despite drinking the occasional margarita with Sauza Gold.

brucedog - 2-5-2021 at 08:31 AM

Jimador is very drinkable but only 35% alcohol down here. My favorite in Baja is the Kirlkand Anejo for sipping.

NOB hands down my favorite for taste/price combo is Lunazul. They make silver, Reposado, and Anejo and in Oregon with no tax its $18 a bottle. I learned about it while buying Patron many years ago...the clerk looked at me and said I should be spending half as much for better product and she was right :-)
