The left side of the canyon, as you are driving in, remains closed due to tropical storm Kay on October 10,2022. Ernesto Loya passed away in 2022,
DEP. His family is still working on repairs to reopen their side of the canyon.
The right side of the canyon is Arturo's side, and I believe Mario's further upstream. It was closed for a couple months, but reopened. At first it
required 4WD to get there through the newly deposited deep sand. I'm not up to date this month about the condition of the road.
Weekends and holidays get crowded, with reservations needed. If you can arrange for mid-week, you will likely not need a reservation and have a
more tranquil experience.
