La Bocana "Juanchy" passes

The famous La Bocana fishing captain Juanchy died a couple days ago of a heart attack.

If you ever go to our hotel in La Bocana, you can find his art everywhere. He was incredibly talented and I bought so much when we lived there! He handpainted all the light swtiches with whales, dosphins, cactus and more. He did a lot of work on white plates, which he then mounted on easles - there is one there in the living room.

There was a huge funeral in La Bocana, people came from near and far. It started with the traditional mourning with family and friends at his house.
There was also a mass.
Then everyone went to the beach.

and lastly the procession to the cemetary, as is the local tradition.

He will be missed, he was Joaquim's (the chef's) brother, his sister is Chunky from Chunky's restaurant at the end of Calle Erizo.

RIP amigo

A last photo taken by my friend Cindy in La Bocana, where everyone went to pay homage. Juanchy was passionate about the estero lagoon, passionate about fish and passionate about his La Bocana. He will be missed.

The first thought to come to my mind was that the image of his favorite fishing chair, his rod, and his cane, could serve as an inspiration for a memorial in his honor.

Love can be expressed in so many ways when we lose a dear friend. I have confidence he will be honored even more as the initial loss translates into memorializing his gift to the community that his life meant to La Bocana.

Peace and love to all Nomads wherever you are.
