Three fishermen located, three still missing in La Paz Municipality
Article below from BCS Noticias, 2nd December;
Three fishermen located in La Paz after fleeing from an armed group into the mountains; another 3 are missing
"Six fishermen were allegedly deprived of their freedom in Playa El Coyote, their vehicle was burned; 3 were found dehydrated, the others are being
sought.
La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). The alleged illegal deprivation of liberty of 6 fishermen in Playa El Coyote, in the municipality of La Paz, is
being investigated. The incident occurred early Monday morning, when gunshots were reported in the area. Hours later, a burned vehicle with bullet
impacts was located near Playa El Saltito.
The fishermen were traveling in a green Ford Excursion van. According to the account given by 3 of the victims who managed to escape, an armed group
intercepted them, forcing them to abandon the vehicle and flee into the woods. These 3 people were later found with signs of dehydration and taken to
a hospital.
The search continues to locate the other three men, identified as Miguel Ángel “N”, David “N” and Ángel “N”, who allegedly went into the
woods to escape the attack. The burned vehicle was abandoned in a nearby ravine.
Authorities from all three levels of government have been deployed in the area to locate the missing persons and clarify the events.
The State Attorney General's Office (PGJE) is leading the investigations to determine the motive for the attack and find those responsible".

I read this a few weeks ago and then a couple days ago I took my motorcycle out to see if the road to playa del Saltito was passable in a car. Shortly
before the turn off from the paved road to the dirt road to El coyote there were two guys standing in the road with a car parked just off the
shoulder. I slowed down and a third guy walked from the area of the car into the road. I was about 1/2 km from them and decided to turn around and go
back to town. I hate worrying about things like this but figured better safe than sorry.

I am fairly familiar with the beaches on that side, having explored the area and have camped in some nice spots over the years.
I did not share my thoughts when I first read this account, because it is pure speculation on my part, but I have questions.
Six fishermen? The only fishing I have observed on my visits is by sport fishermen casting from the beaches, or along the rocky points.
Three victims missing? I suspect that the missing fishermen were more afraid of the police than the thugs that burned their SUV, but who knows for
sure?
I think the whole episode was between rival bands of thugs and not a random act of violence, but I will certainly think twice before driving in there
alone the next time I am in La Paz.

What are these bad guys after? It's obviously not the vehicle they want to steal, since the vehicles of these poor folks who disappear are found burnt
out.

I’ve been out there several times myself and friends camp there frequently ( Saltito) but not El
Coyote. Locals here have expressed the feeling that is a safe place. I thought the noticias story was a bit off as well. But who really knows.

Hopefully some clarity on this incident will be forthcoming. I’ve enjoyed the “off the beaten track “ nature of Saltito ,but it’s worrying
when being the only one on the beach could be a risk. Seems that with many of these incidents there is either no conclusive investigation by the
authorities or that it falls off the news cycle. If you hear and more info Chris please let us know and hopefully you are not deterred for future two
wheel exploration.

In 2014, 42 students disappeared in Guerrero, MX. ''Investigations'' from the top down, and nothing.
As far as ''Seems that with many of these incidents there is no conclusive investigation by the authorities or that it falls off the news cycle,''
that's right. That's my opinion too. Nothing is conclusive and investigations are flawed with exceptions..
So, 6 fishermen in a van? Uh huh. Maybe there weren't fishing. Maybe 3 were targeted and have disappeared. Not a good sign.
Dad would tell me always scan the horizon for trouble. Always be prepared to run. Yup.

I read a news blurb that the 3 missing fishermen were found. But no news since.
6 men driving in middle of night in remote area, car jacked by sicarios. Hmmmmm….
