I drove north on 1 from Mulege to the junction with 5 at Chapala a month ago. You have to be on guard constantly and be prepared for oncoming traffic dodging holes on their side of the road.

It is not bad all the way, but there are more bad stretches than I have seen before. I hope for your sake that some of those sections have been repaired since then!

I just drove that route. The worst part is between Jesus Villa Maria and Punta Prieta for several miles. You have to slow down because there are so many potholes you need to drive through them. Other places heads up driving because of potholes along the way, some very deep. Catavina to the border is good.
