Thanks, interesting article.

"Wilson opened a service station in Costa Mesa, Calif., when he was just 21. By 1959 he sold the Costa Mesa Station and purchased a larger one in Newport Beach, Calif., where he eventually had over 30 people working for him, the ORMHOF recalled."

Imagine Newport Beach in 1959! Classic Southern California beach vibe.

I have been seeing posts of Vic Wilson in Baja on Facebook pages about off-road racing. Imaging being the first 1000 winner or just being in that race! It was the main road to La Paz with just a short cut by staying on the west side of the mountains past San Ignacio. No special marked courses or 'speed zones' in towns or on the little bit of highway used (well it was almost 200 miles of paved road of the 860 some miles for the first 1000s).
RIP Vic Wilson
