recharge a deap cycle 12 volt via truck?

Not exactly Baja related except we have all dealt with 12v batteries out of necessity. Last weekend we had a dead 12 volt trolling battery, had to row back to shore. that night we hooked to our truck battery via jumper cables and let the truck (it has a towing package) idle for about an hour. Next day we got about 2-3 hours of trolling. Curious if anyone else has tried that.

Does essence predate existence?

ideally use a DC to DC charger but if you don't happen to have one do what you did but maybe go for a ride to let it charge longer, charging output will be increased.

The output from the alternator was low at idle (600-800) RPM.
You will be charging the battery much faster if you run the engine at 2,000+ RPM. I usually aim for 2,500 RPM.

Maybe 3,000 RPM briefly, when jump starting another vehicle with a dead battery. Over 3,000 RPM is probably a waste of fuel and unnecessary wear on the engine.

Disclaimer: I don't know about newer vehicles with their sensitive electrical systems. Read the owner's manual about jump starting, etc. to avoid damage to electrical/computer components.
