Registering vehicle in South Dakota
I know this has been discussed previously but I'm looking for any first hand knowledge of registering my vehicle in South Dakota
I have a vehicle I keep in Mexico, can't bring it back to California for various reasons.
Anybody have good recent experience with a business I can have register my vehicle in SD? Get SD plates, etc.....
Let me know the best company to work with on this.

I use clay county you can do it online w credit card. Except you must mail in title.

easy do it yourself.
must have valid US driver license
must have US address
then you mail in your title to register in SD
they'll mail you new title, plates and stickers

When I see South Dakota plates on a car, I always wonder where they are from.
The Mercedes SUV that I may drive on my next Baja run will have AK plates instead of the expired CA plates it is wearing now. I still have an AK
driver's license with an Anchorage address, so I am ok if I get pulled over while I am in CA.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Most of the Time if I travel to USA I drive my Mexican plated truck . Sometimes SD plated truck never been pulled over

My Mex plated truck has Mex INS covers me in USA Qualitas full coverage about 350.00 DL. My SD plated truck I buy day ins to drive in USA.

Day insurance would work for me. I've heard you can get that OXXO. Ya gotta love those stores. Where do you buy day insurance?

The Qualitas policy on my Mexico tagged Hilux provides coverage while in the U S only for trips north of the border of 30 days or less.

For South Dakota registered cars
Do you have US car insurance in South Dakota? Or only Mexican Insurance?
Our car will stay in Mexico, never come back to the states, we don't live in South Dakota.
Getting it registered in SD now, I don't want to pay SD insurance if I don't need to.
I know having it registered in california I had to pay US insurance on it to keep it registered

One of the advantages of registering in SD is that they only require that the vehicle be insured if it is in SD. If it is not in SD, 'out of sight out
of mind'. SD also does not require that you maintain an SD driver's license. I have one vehicle bought in 2015 through Costco buyer's service that
was delivered through a dealership in SD where it is registered. My US drivers license is from Florida. If the car was registered in Florida they
would require that I maintain US insurance even during the 95% of the time the car is in Mexico. I only buy US insurance for the month or so every
year that the car is north of the border and everybody is happy.
