400-500 Homes for Rancho Salsipuedes?; A B&B at Scorpion Bay?
http://www.voiceofsandiego.org/site/apps/nl/content2.asp?c=e...
Three miles of prime oceanfront real estate north of Ensenada is about to be developed. The area is Rancho Salsipuedes, and the development will be
400-500 homes, which will either be primary or second residences. Meanwhile, 800 miles south of the border, surfers coming to Scorpion Bay's long
wave breaks will soon be able to stop roughing it.
A nice bed and breakfast is being built, and San Diegan Fred Borrelli is involved in the project. Think of it, no more scorpion checks in the sleeping
bag at night time. Sounds bueno ? and better already.

If you get a place in Salispuedes make sure you get landslide insurance!
I once read an article about the building of the 'scenic highway' between TJ and Ensenada. It was reported that the Mexican government had asked for
assistance from the US Army Corps of Engineers in engineering the roadway. The Corps stated that a road should NOT be built on the coast thru the area
south of Bajamar to San Miguel because of unstable hills with evidence of major historic landslide activity. Can you say 'Zona de Faultas
Geologica'.
It was stated that the geology was EXACTLY like that of the Portuguese Bend area. Be Careful!!

just got back from the bay and like the sculpin said, "no mas". prices keep going up and for what? the pleasure of camping? we had 3 sessions that
were shoulder high, depending on the tides, with 1-16 people out at a time at second point. the place is either REALLY good or REALLY bad. dave and
lori are even chasing down people outside 3rd point (which isn't their property) and threatening that they will pay, one way or another!
the fishing sucked, all the way to san gregorio to the south and up to "the spot" up north-red tide was washing up eels and sculpin every day along
second point. even the pangueros were only getting abalone. what a fitting ending to a well worn-out spot.
one bright spot tho', the locals are getting hotter every year, especially Martin and soon the localism mentallity will invade just like in cabo...
don't get me wrong, it was better than staying at home. san ignacio was awesome, casa yee in mulege for lunch was great, la bay was windy for two days
and we survived, intact again. we'll just set our sights on a new place to spend our $ where the locals can appreciate friendly gringos.

Don't spend too much time dreaming Sculpin. If you haven?t been lately, Naughton/Peterson-Land farther south has been changing faster than you can
blink over the past couple of years (internet exposure and "surf travel" rackets).
For East coasters a trip to The South is like going to Cabo for us- a 2 hour plane ride and $350 bucks. They don't seem to mind surfing with 50 of
their best friends either. But at least Tejanos and Floridians do tend to be friendlier than what we're accustomed to.
Brazilians , who seem to travel in 6-packs, are starting to creep up from the south (they used to stick to Panama). Nothing worse than encountering a
pack of Brazilians in the water no matter where you are- rude, obnoxious, dangerous and unpleasant to surf with.
Hate to sound so fatalistic. Just an encouragement to get out there soon!
Although we?re fairly entrenched in San Juanico, we?ve kept the door open so we can get out as the not-so-good days become more prevalent (lack of
waves and way too many people in the water). A few years back we starting searching and setting up other options, thank goodness. Knowing that there?s
more out there has taken some of the stress out of the scorpion bay saga.

I ain't talking south...I'm talking Africa!
From what I've been hearing, there's alot of adventure and solitude left for the not-faint-of-heart.
That's what I'm dreaming about!!

Salispuedes
feel bad for all you California guys. The last escape valves are closing. Bed and Breakfasts,?condos?- bull chit. I am glad I got Baja in the late
60's. Living in Hawaii now but took a journey a few years back and could not believe that there were condos at 381/2, Rauls was a crap pile, Gaviotas
was gone, where did 3m's go,\? and california beach? Californication has ruined the place. Do not know what has happened South- Rincon de Baja,
Cuatro Casas? Would hate to find out. Best to keep memories unadulterated. Too bad we have no contol over what happens in Baja. Too bad Salispuedes as
a vestige of the past will soon get Calfiornicated.
Aloha.
